Between returning to golf after a six-year break and constantly playing on unfamiliar courses, golf-especially putting-has challenged both my skills and my confidence this year. As someone who has struggled with confidence on and off the course, in this video my goal is to share my experience as of late along with a key insight: You don’t need to feel confident to play well or to enjoy the game. Confidence isn’t a prerequisite for success, but it is a skill you can actively cultivate over time, both in golf and in life. By releasing the belief that I needed to feel good or confident to achieve my goals, I’ve learned to embrace each moment as it is, appreciate the journey, and not let how I feel or how I perform on any given day dictate my future potential. You have the power to write your own story and we are rooting for you!

Thank you so much for the kind words, Mark. I have been challenging myself to get outside of my comfort zone and it means the world to me to hear that my honesty and vulnerability resonated with you in that way. Zach had a wonderful round and I was able to make some good putts and feel a bit more confident, but most important of all we had an amazing time together! We appreciate you! Thank you for bringing a smile to our faces with your supportive comments each week ❤️ Wishing you a wonderful week ahead! - Alyssa & Zach

First to comment?! Heck, yes. I've worked hard to improve my driving and ball striking, and am a 13 handicap. Golf is my favorite mood enhancer - I love being on the course in nature, spending time with my wife on golf dates or my friends in a weekend foursome. I've learned to accept that every round will bring frustrations, but the net positive is always much greater than any negative. Having said that, my next challenge is to try and eliminate the occasional pitching shanks that creep into my game and add unwanted strokes. It's a tough thing to step up to a 20-30 yard pitch shot with that fear of shanking. It's the only shot where it happens, and I can't feel what I'm doing wrong, but I don't let it get me down and know it's simply the next opportunity to learn and improve. Thanks for another great video. 💗

Yes!! Love hearing that golf is your favorite mood enhancer, and I have no doubt that having that relationship with the game has helped support those improvements you have seen through your hard work. I completely agree that despite any frustrations, time out in nature playing golf with people you cherish will always be a net positive. I too have experienced a period of shanks with my wedges and know how mentally challenging that can be. 20-30 yard shots are difficult as is! Not sure if it would be helpful for you, but for me I found that what helped me most when overcoming the shanks was to stay hyper-focused on my routine (making sure my alignment and setup were sound), only worry about my target or landing spot rather than my mechanics, and to fully commit to the shot and release any concern of the outcome (as I often found when I shanked I was decelerating or trying to guide the ball due to the fear). I also was told by someone once that the swing mechanics of a shank are actually quite close to that of a really good shot and that perspective has helped me to shake them off more quickly and know that in this game of minute measurements, even my "bad swings" are likely not too far off - it happens. We just keep learning and keep growing! Thank you for sharing your story and for the continued wonderful display of how powerful a positive mindset can be. And of course, thank you for continuing to be here, we appreciate you 💗 -Alyssa
