Currently deciding between the Cobalt 8M, Argon 8M, Hydrasynth and OB-6. I've got standard studio reverb, so the Night Sky is a given. Really interested in the LFOs, chromatic shimmer and reverb sequencing capabilities of the NS. The Cobalt 8 is gorgeous, but I have tons of true analog, so wavetable synthesis (and the Argon 8M) would fill the missing spot that analog modeling might not, however tastefully done.

These type of pedals are a good reason to get into modular. Not everybody likes modular and that's a fair argument. But in eurorack land, plenty of excellent reverbs that are more affordable than Night Sky and without modulation/driver/filter/sequencer limitations. Do I sound like a cult member? Join us. We are inevitable. No more fears. No more linear triangle waves. No more wall warts. Join. Ussss.

@@MB-kx5qs Modular Grid is a great place to search reverbs but a lot of people use Erica Synths Black Hole DSP2, Mutable Instruments Clouds (or one of the billion clones), Make Noise Erbe-Verb (price is comparable to Night Sky), and tons more. For me, fx were usually an afterthought and not something I rely on heavily. At least, until I bought Earthquaker's Afterneath reverberator module earlier this year. It's just so much fun to experiment with and it sounds excellent. I also own an Erica Pico DSP and though it's tiny, having just 1 CV input can really bring some creative movement to the effect. Having control over parameters is a blast so Night Sky would be totally fun. But if you're looking for that particular type of control, I would definitely suggest a modular fx case.

Do you think it would be a satisfactory "straightforward" reverb as well? Looking to eventually invest in one of these more expensive pedals but between this, Big Sky, Ventris, and others, I'm not really sure what separates them.
@patrizio74 жыл бұрын
@@ObKling It depends on what type of music you make and how many modulation options you need. The Nightsky can be good for ambient and experimental sounds. The Ventris is also very powerful but can do ‘standard’ verbs too.

One of the things about the Big Sky which really irks me is that if you send an input to it that's too hot the DSP goes nuts and it starts changing parameters at random. It would be good to know if the Night Sky includes some reasonable clipping circuitry.

The cobalt 8 is the most interesting synth, at that price, that I've heard for a while. It is inspiring. That's the most important thing an instrument can do to you.
