Hey Bob, Your right she's from Manchester located in Lancashire. She liked it; she always finds the good in everything, one of her habits I admire in her. She's like Roy Rogers who said (I never met a person I didn’t like.) She makes it difficult to whine about stuff, because her positive advice quickly counters my complaints. She will often say (every adversity or failure brings with it the seed of equal or greater benefit.) It’s tough to argue with that kind of logic. Kirk Giordano

Hey devin, You were right the first time, after you cut the stucco you can slide the drip up but you might catch a staple of nail, If you do try cutting the top area of drip where it hit a little bit. As long as there’s a little paper over the drip it should still be water tight. I have a video that’s waiting to be uploaded that shows and explains this method. I’ll call my son to see if he can download it for you. Best wishes, Kirk Giordano plastering

Hey swift justice, you are too funny, next time we visit my wife's family in England we have to have a few beers with you! Sounds like you guys worked your butts off with the insulation work. Plastering sound easy compared to that brutal and itchy stuff. Best wishes, Kirk Giordano Plastering

Hey swift justice, I think your pulling my leg. But I got a kick out of it anyway. In 1944 my mom was hustled here from France by a smooth taking sailor. She couldn’t speak English, but did speak French, Portuguese, Italian and German. She never learned to speak English well. But of course we all understood her. I remember my friends always asking (what did she say?) Anyhow, my wife is curious where in England you are from. Kirk Giordano plastering

Hay bud, it's not nice to verbally beat yourself up like that, your subconscious hears everything your conscious says aloud or in thought and believes it. Better yet say and think, man, now that’s a great way to get in shape while getting projects completed. Can you tell I raised allot of kids? Thanks for the compliment and have a groovy day. Howdy Ird, I’d bet drip screeds began because a sharp witted fella must have thought (you know if we separate the bottom of the stucco from say the foundation and the concrete slab this will allow the stucco walls to move individually, thereby creating a lot less hairline cracks and almost eliminate buckling entirely.) Plus the metal screeds gives the home an expansion joint, and allows water to weep through the weep holes. Have a great groovy evening. Kirk Giordano plastering

Hey Maggie, A little education may be of tremendous benefit for you. Google areas in which you seek sound information. Guessing just allows failure. Educated knowledge helps create real success. Best wishes on learning how to stucco. A plus for you is if you’re watching me on KZbin you are on your way to learning proper methods in stucco applications. Kirk Giordano plastering

Kirk I have a set of double doors with windows on each side of doors. Around doors was dry rotted 2x6 and around windows there is 2x4 I replaced all with new wood and I also tore out the stucco below windows to weep screeds (2.5’x2.5’ area)checking studs for rot. Do I need to put angle cut on trim boards, hang them and push stucco into the trim boards that’s how all windows were done I just forgot how 2x6 around doors were. The door trim is only exposed to stucco about 2’ up on both sides then it runs between window frame and door frame. I just don’t remember bottom sides of door trim being cut at angle. I found it odd that all window trim was angled and stucco was forced behind it. But I guess it water proofs it better and holds stucco better that way. I’m going to use rapid set and texture is very heavy also using paper backed wire over 2 ply tar paper.

@@mermaidmuncher2708 howdy Mermaid, it doesn’t matter if you redwood door trim has a key or not, or what your calling a angle cut. And using Rapid Set Stucco is the heavy sand. It’s called 16/20, don’t mix the rapid set for more than five minutes or it will be week stucco, all dame day stucco should be mixed only 3 to 5 minutes, you will be fine.

Hey Devinsbiro, why install a screed? They weren’t mandatory (Code) until about 1973 most folks still didn’t use them until 10 years later. I often come upon instances where we don’t use them if we want to keep the place original we take the stucco to the bottom like the existing. (Cosmetic reasons, mainly) Also a rock or stone mason can simply attach the stones wherever they wish using different bonders. Why do you wish to install a drip screed? It's not necessary! Howdy Ird, somehow I lost the original question, but usually brick, block, and stone don’t require a drip as it has an L or Z flashing under the stucco which then allows water to flow down the top and surface of these stones, or bricks. It’s the membrane beneath these stones which really keep the water out, providing the stucco or wood above has the proper counter flashings installed. Have a great groovy evening. Kirk, have been talking with you about applying stucco to 100"sfeet of concrete barriers. Would it be OK to add some lime too my mix. Thinking spread easier and stronger. Thinking about 3/8" thickness for sponge float? Your follower and admirer. 67 ole George Rutherford
@StuccoPlastering2 ай бұрын
@@georgerutherford4649 Howdy ole George Rutherford, lime can make it easier to spread, but I’d recommend using less sand per Portland stucco to achieve the same thing. Cheers.

Hi Kirk,I've been watching many videos about applaying stucco and let me tell you,you are the best at this.I have a question for you,I decided to make some stucco repairs at home,you know "DIY"nothing big ,but I have a problem trying to match the existing texture it has like granules all over the house,that's the finish coat,I can see like 3/4 stucco thickness and this granulated surface.Do you know how to do that? are this granules for sale? do you know how are they called? thank you very much.

How bad is tucking lath under window flashing??
@StuccoPlastering8 жыл бұрын
Howdy Raul, lath is a term for paper and wire, our new paper should be placed under the window flashing to waterproof, after this is complete the stucco netting goes over the paper for the stucco to adhere to this netting. Best wishes, and have a god evening Kirk and Jason’s rendering & stucco advice
