Student Accidentally Flashes Fake ID, Instantly Regrets It

ORLANDO, FL -- A student with at the University of Central Florida got pulled over for an obstruction on their vehicle's tag. Upon identifying herself, the driver unknowingly showed she was in possession of multiple IDs -- one of which was obviously fake.
The officer involved maintained a courteous and professional demeanor, as did the driver. She was also quick to offer the truth. These factors, according to the officer, are why he chose to not make the stop bigger than it needed to be.

When I was 21 I was driving like an ass. I cut off this one car that was driving at granny speed. Of course as soon as I got in front of the car the cop lights start going off (it was an undercover granny speed) Only time I was ever pulled over. The officer approached the window and yelled at me “why did you do that?” I replied “honestly because I was being stupid” and he took a deep breath and said “yes! Very stupid, if I was an older person you could have caused an accident” He let me go with a warning because I answered honestly.

Idk about this. The social scene at my school was more dependent on bars/clubs than house parties/frats. So if you didn't have a fake ID, you couldn't get into bars, making it significantly harder to be social, which is pretty damn important in college.

My memory works really good when it comes to the truth and nature of actual events that took place because they are constant variables they do not change, but remembering the fiction i created inside my own head would be infinitely harder because the variable are not real, the variables are made up and if they punch holes in it and you change it on the fly to cover up said holes you are cooked because lying is another charge and they will punch holes in your lie because they typically know the truth or can find the truth to verify your claims. life’s hard but it’s harder when you’re stupid, ive seen so many body cam footage where they ask people questions that they can find the truth to in like 2 minutes and then they get charged with lying to the cops, one woman i saw lied to the cops they found out it was a lie and the crazy thing is she was the only one of her friends not involved in the crime and then she lied and made herself join them in being arrested. A simple google search proves it: The unlawful possession of a driver's license or identification card(s) is a third-degree felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison, 5 years of probation and/or a $5,000 fine. If it's your first offense you could face up to 1 year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

You know, as a young adult, I definitely made some mistakes... luckily nothing that ever landed me in legal trouble. Most of my friends were doing the same things. Young adults do stupid things. The officer did the right thing and didn't make it a much larger issue that would follow the young lady for the rest of her life. She's going to be held accountable, but nothing so serious as to alter the outcome of her life in a negative way. He, most likely, taught her a valuable lesson. Great job officer, 👏 bravo!!!

Pretty sure that while she's from New Jersey (hence the NJ plate) she is going to school, living in, and getting pulled over in Florida. The officer mentioned UCF, so I'm guessing this is in Orlando, FL. And as the officer also mentioned, he has no choice but to refer the matter to student affairs. He doesn't have discretion in this case. He could've arrested her and charged her with a felony, in addition to hitting her with the $114 ticket. I would say the cop was extremely light handed in his approach.

Dee, I was one of the under 21 when the movement if you can go to war you should be able to drink and the law was changed the drinking age to 18. More under 21 were dying for alcohol related car accidents than in Vietnam. The law was moved back to 21. Hope this helps you understand.

Also police are allowed to give warnings depending on the situation, they don’t have to take them to jail if it’s something petty like this. Even lightly trained bar bouncers can spot the fakes, but if you are willing to spend good money, you can even get ones that will scan and return info. I’ve seen them sell for like 75 bucks for a very basic one, and up to $500 for the really good ones. That’s what she had, a completely fake license with her name and whatnot all accurate except for the age.

Her violation was not a felony. It was a misdemeanor. The only circumstance where this is a felony in the State of Florida is if someone is manufacturing or selling fake IDs. See Florida Statues Title XXIII MOTOR VEHICLES Chapter 322 DRIVER LICENSES. The cop entirely misunderstood the law, probably because if you google "Is possessing a fake ID a felony" will show results saying that it's a third degree felony, when this is simply the maximum punishment for a different circumstance.

this is literally every experience I've had with police in my country, ever. I've never been stopped for a crime, but what interactions I have had with them they were always extremely courteous, professional, and helpful. Sadly (I know) that's not the case with all cops, and in some (maybe many) countries it's far worse. She is lucky she got away with a warning, here she'd have faced a fine of hundreds of dollars for having that thing on her plate. The reasons the cop gave were correct, but worse even is that automated traffic cameras won't be able to record that it's you speeding past and can end up fining someone else, obscured plates are often used by criminals to avoid identification.

If a cop comes to my house without a search warrant and I welcome him inside my home and he sees meth on my table, I am going to get in trouble, he doesnt need a search warrant because I gave permission. this is a perfect video that shows the difference between outcomes. The driver was honest and respectful and was able to drive home, a little scared but alive and well. I've seen other videos where drivers know they've committed a crime or infraction yet are belligerent and want to fight the police and it usually results in a different outcome.

@@whyumadtho355 She didn't even do anything lol. Some people are just emotional and can't help but cry in those situations due to fear/anxiety/whatever. If she were to lie or push the waterworks HEAVILY then I'd agree, but she literally didn't do anything except be honest and shed a tear or two due to obvious nervousness. I'm almost 100% positive this cop would've let a young man run free had he shown the same honesty. But it's not like she went off free, he still reported her fake ID to her school which can easily get her kicked out.

@@PunishedCoyoteI’ll split the difference with you two: As a former LEO myself, I’ve had good and bad experiences with officers. I knew many amazing officers who have risked all for terrible pay. But after I retired, I was parked in an empty lot for a head shop. It ended up being the wrong lot but was not clear with zero signs. When I returned to my vehicle, an officer was running my plates. I approached from the front slowly so he wouldn’t be off guard. He confirmed it was the wrong lot but it was fine. I asked if he wanted me to stay a minute so he can finish running my plates (as at the time the computers were slow and I wanted to be nice). He responded, “I am allowed to run your tag!!!” I said, “I know… I was asking if you wanted more time to clear the vehicle”. He said no so I left. He then proceeded to follow me home. It was one main road then my side street 2 miles away. I figured it was no big deal until he pulled down my small street. What a jerk. But we all have bad days even when we are professional. I do wish changes would occur but I’m hesitant to say cops are inherently good or bad.
