My son has 6 student loans with Mohela. He owes $17k. The highest interest rate is 4.95%. However, the interest charged each month comes to about $100.00. I pay $500 in interest on a 200k home loan at less than 4%. Hold times for inquiry calls is usually over an hour.

I honestly can't wait. Mohela has been awful. They missed the first 3 years of my payments (2017-2020), added half of them back when I wrote to them, and then just updated my payment plan and removed them again. Can't get anyone on the phone to resolve this.

I have been fighting still to get Mohela to update my total payments left for PSLF. They have me showing with 87 payments left and it should be 17.

Yes people should be concerned, if you are in the PSLF program it will be in your best interest to vote Biden 2024 because if Trump gets in office trust me the republicans are going to revise this program. No other sitting President has done more for people with students loans than Biden.

They might reverse for people that has not sign up for the PSLF loan program. But for the people that’s on track they can’t do anything about because it’s in the fine print when you sign up.

I talked to the federal ombudsman as of 2/28/2024 I am at 120. She stated if you are already processing for forgiveness and discharge that will continue. She stated it will not be paused for me as mine is already there processing.. Important to know.

Well guess what? I am a retired public school teacher for 31 years, submitted my PSLF application and I have been just sitting at 30 qualifying counts out of 120 for 6 months. I taught at Selma University for 4 years, submitted an application for that time and still sitting at 30. MOHELA can't give any revelent information. Thank God for what is about to happen. Had these loans for at least 28 years.

Im so confused. I got a letter from mohela telling me i was approved for the pslf forgiveness, then i keep getting letters saying im in default. My credit karma says i still owe them too. What is the truth. Im really confused. And i also got a letter saying my loans are in forbearance, but then a day later got a late payment letter. Ugh 😢

Don't count on it. My 120th was over 6 months ago, and MOHELA has been fumbling over every part of the process since. Still no accurate updates to my PSLF after all my documentation has been verified as processed, and no useful information from their customer service, just "keep waiting".

Glad i haven’t restarted my loan payments to Mohela yet. Due 4/17, but I’m applying for PLSF since my hospital HR emailed that I am now eligible. I decided to pause restarting payment until I got the processing started. Then I saw this vid and read your above comments. So glad I didn’t give Mohela any dime of my money yet.

My June payment was not auto debited. I don't want to miss a month of payment as I am counting on completing my job by a certain date, but I also don't want to put in $1500 into a system that is in transition. In the past, payments did not count if there was no bill generated. The new website does not have any content either. Should I wait for more communication or just use autopay and just make the June payment? Thank you!

I was just transitioned over. There is no mention of PSLF. I shows my IDR amount which should be need to recertify is actually accepted for 14 more months and there is no reference to SAVE plan. I have $365k and a big factor in me taking a teaching position was PSLF. Should I do anything at this time or are we all sort of in a generic holding on the new website? Thank you!

I have over 120 payments for PSLF recorded. But my 2 consolidated loans on (now) Dept of Ed are saying that they do not qualify for PSLF. Is this because my loan is an administrative forbearance? Do I need to request the removal of the forbearance & then request forgiveness again?

I am retired and don't make what i did and can't afford payments. The loan payment was put in my name but my wife's income was figured into the payments. She worked in government and they would not let my loan be forgiven because her name was not on the loan but her salary was. Not fair.

During covid, my old hospital made payments to my first loan servicer. They were not full payments, they were only $100 dollars per check, but for the entire covid shutdown my hospital made the payments. Then my loans went to Navient, now they're with Mohela, and I'm not seeing those payments anywhere. My question is, now that I work for a federal hospital, would those payments count for PSLF?

I think I read that you'll need to reapply with your new employer to see if they qualify. I'm a teacher and MOHELA just took over my loans and I applied in Nov. 2023. I just got another qualifying payments letter today and it was in that letter.

All loan companies best interest is your monthly interest. Credit cards and student loans are two biggest forms passively income based on debt: Govt will never forgive loans it’s up to us borrowers to be educated on financial literacy and get GOOD are selves! My extra payments didn’t go to balance but future interest. Lawyers said I could not sue unless in default. Fed loans ignored my pay allegations letter 1 yr during COVID. Multiple calls to pay off one of my loans. Forgiveness is taxable currently. I hate third party companies. Still 36 payments in pslf bc 5 years at bank 😢 and religious based hospital didn’t qualify as nonprofit. So do your homework when seek employment also skip in school deferments if you can pay anyone to get out debt faster. Learn from my mistakes

Conflicting info. I read rules regarding what qualifies as payments. Payments actually made obviously qualify. And payments during Covid relief also qualify. But related to forbearance, and whether those are considered qualified payments as far as forbearance qualifying as payments toward the 120 total to be granted PSLF, I read they do but I also have seen where it’s not for certain. Anyone know?

We had 2 loans that we just hit 120 payments a couple months ago. One of them was forgiven before the transfer, but now we're waiting. I just got notification that everything is transferred, but now, on our last loan, it says we have 0 out of the 120 payments paid! Will this be corrected, or did we just lose everything?

The same issue applies to my situation. They only forgave one loan on my credit report and the other loan is still indicated as owed even though both loans were forgiven.

Check your online MOHELA account. I received an email from them several days ago advising that the transition was complete. There will be a link that takes you to their new website. You'll have to create a new account. All my information from before the transition was there and accurate.

If this is the guidance MOHELA has given you then that's great! Those administrative forbearance months count towards PSLF! Just make sure to screenshot this guidance and what your account says so that there are no future hiccups.

I just got approved for PSLF and an IDR plan that confirmed I’d be around $112/month, but I just received my first letter and email from MOHELA this past week saying that they would be processing my previous non-PSLF amount of about $264. Is this what is meant when he says that PSLF is temporarily on pause? That we are reverting to paying the non-PSLF total? Or did MOHELA mess something up?

Don't pay them anything. Be patient and wait for the changes and the move. Your credit won't be effected and you may not even have to worry about interest later

My daughter started on the SAVE plan in the Fall. I see her interest is still going up and shes just paying what is due on $67,000 which is just $31 per month ( I don't get that but for know OK) Am I to understand that in 20 or 25 years her remaining loan would be forgiven?

Why is PSLF the major focus of the student loan debacle? There are many, many borrowers that have been victimized by student loan processing companies, not just PSLF, but the government only seems to be interested in PSLF. All student loan borrowers who have been wronged should have things made right with their loans.

I'm have been working for Texas Govt as a PA for 9 yrs plus. Mohela completely messed up payments and they have been taking out $838 every month of which $709 is going towards interest payments!!! How crazy is that. So glad to be out of the clutches of Republican controlled MOHELA. They also messed up on the number of payments I've made so far.
