The metaphor hits rlly close to home for me. There was a girl that went to my school. I had a class with her and she was amazing. She was a singer songwriter and was beginning to rise in my city, she was on the road to fame, but she suddenly died in a drunk driver accident. She didn't deserve it. She had such a great life ahead of her and was a good person I didn't know her personally or ever really talked to her, but I knew she didn't deserve this. Makes me want to appreciate life even more

There are so many ways to interpret this movie, when I first watched it I assumed the kids blowing up was a metaphor for school shootings. I initially thought that literal explosions were a metaphor to show people, especially teenagers, dealing with depression, anxiety and stress until one day they can't bear it anymore and explode when you least expect it. I reconsidered everything when I saw Dylan die. He was a cheerful boy, full of love and hope. That's when I realized that sudden deaths meant that you can't take anything or anyone for granted, not even Dylan, a boy you thought you could share your life with.

Who’s to say that Dylan wasn’t depressed just because he put on a happy face
@HauntingGround4ever3 жыл бұрын
@@sinfulincubus Dealing with depression myself, I can recognize a depressed person when I see one. People that are depressed but hide it with a big smile and a happy attitude can only trick you for so long, if you pay attention. Anyway, if it's more difficult in real life, it can't be in a movie. Dylan is presented as a person full of love and hope for others but also for himself (and depressed people can have love and hope for others but not for themselves), smiling not to make someone else happy or as a disguise, but because he himself was happy to live. He was talking about spending his holidays with Mara if they stayed alive (depressed people don't talk about their own future very often, 'cause they have very little hope for it). In any case, it's clearly presented in the movie that Mara was a happy event in Dylan's life, so was Dylan for Mara, so even if I was wrong the whole time and the boy was originally depressed, it wouldn't make sense that he suddenly exploded in that exact moment, as if, in that second in particular, holding Mara's hands and smiling to each other, he couldn't bare it anymore. I think that would be inexplicable, even for an unpredictable person like a depressed one. Then again, I might be wrong, but the movie doesn't give you any sign whatsoever that Dylan could deal with depression and the morale of the movie has nothing to do with it: it's about living in the awareness that everyday could be the last day of your life or the last day you have someone special by your side.

It may seems weird how they don’t grieve their friends enough after they passed, but that’s just how people is. It affect some people a lot, some doesn’t feel as sad and torn. It potrays what death can do to someone’s mentality. How people that are affected by it living their day after their passing, suffering from survivor guilt. This movie hits sm. The way it portrays that we should live our life and we could die any moment. My dad never enjoyed his life and was forced into family business, he loved to draw. Last year he took us to Walmart to buy groceries because of lockdown it was after months me and my sibling stepped out and we went together to buy stuff. I watched him in morning as he asked me which car would I like to go in and cleaned it and everything. Next day he got brain stroke and stayed in ICu for 20 days. In a single say our whole life turned upside down, my mom alone rushed him to the hospital at 7 am leaving the entire house open with me and my sibling half asleep. My dad lost his speech and his right side is paralysed. As someone who used to have beautiful handwriting and drew so well and never stopped talking it hurts to see him. His life changed in a single day and so did ours and the only regret we have is that when we look at him he never truly enjoyed his life well and never lived for himself, always got used by people. It's depressing to look at him he would try to lift his righr arm using his left but would fail and then cry.

If you really think about it, it's probably less horrible being the one exploding in this case than the ones watching it happen. It happens so fast that you don't expect it and they don't seem to be experiencing any pain before exploding, so assuming your brain and nervous system dies immediately, you probably wouldn't really feel it. Meanwhile, as someone who saw it happen, now you're traumatized and terrified about the same thing happening to you and will now be constantly paranoid and worried about how bad it'll hurt.

This kind of reminds me of The Tribe, a Kiwi TV-show from 1999, but in reverse (in The Tribe, the adults are the ones to die). The premise of the show was that an unknown virus killed _everyone_ over 18 in a random city, leaving only the kids alive; so the kids band together, make up tribes and try to survive the best they can. A lot of those kids die over the course of the series; some while fighting other tribes, a few through explosions, IIRC some of them got infected with the virus when they turned 18. It's kind of like Lord of the Flies, but on a larger scale. (A lot of the characters also look like glam rock bands.)

I was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and honestly, this movie speaks to me about how you should live your life to the fullest. I lived a difficult childhood. I was abused in all manner of ways and had to raise myself in so many hard ways. I eventually as an adult, developed several chronic illnesses. But I look back at the last few years of my life... and I regret nothing. I confronted my traumas and my demons, even if it was myself to confront. I learned to say no and I learned to walk away, and here I am not having to live that type of life in the face of what I have now. I learned there is never a wrong time to tell someone you love them, even when you haven't spoken in so long. And I learned this is a big, big world we lived in - I got to see so much of it. All around the world I travelled to amazing places with wonderful people to meet. I even learned as deeply as I could about the way things were, especially in regards to myself. I learned so much that I came to accept that you can't have everything. And when you come to terms with that, you'll learn to be happy. In spite of the circumstances I was born into and the hideousness of the things I didn't ask for, I became the winner of the things I fought for. So now at this chapter of my life, I'm scared. I'm mortified about what's happening to me and I don't know exactly what to feel. Thankfully it's not cancerous and I can survive this - which I intend to do. But it's hurting me and taken so much out of my body. It's threatening my brain stem and crushed some nerves. Some days, I'm not even sure if I'm going to make it. Life isn't necessarily short, just unpredictable and full of choices you choose or don't choose to make. So you should just do the things you've always needed to do for yourself, because there is no security or certainty in such a fragile, unpredictable world. Period.

I have a theory, Dylan Said that he realized that life is short and you need to make the most of it, and when most teens get excited they exploded so maybe it's when you have lived your life to the fullest that u are set to detonate, I'm just saying.
@ellec71883 жыл бұрын
Makes sense but like I think anyone change what they want to do in life but the movie wouldn't work like that like anyone who "peaks" in highschool and don't really have anything they want to do would explode. (As in like not knowing what to do and just existing) Dylan probably saw his future as dating the mc. The first girl probably was depressed and wished that they could explode. :( The dealer twins would be in a loop of buying and selling drugs so in a way that would be their "fullest fife"
@Carmenesquivi3 жыл бұрын
Or maybe talking about teen depression. I mean they are in high school, their last step in preparation for their future. It’s a time in life where they have to think of their future, take important exams like the ACT, SAT, PSAT, ext., pick a college or university and hope to get accepted. I mean all that can get overwhelming and may cause some to commit suicide which could be portrayed here as the exploding of the students.
