So I can play it safe and can get a great monitoring sound live by just putting the plugin on the track? Going to the input makes it permanent changed the actual waves. Thanks

Can you do the same thing but not commit to it. Just as a reference for the artist like uad?

In that case, put the input on the mixer channel, and it will just be a referenced sound and not committed to the recording.

Thanks for this, but how do I track with plugins with virtual instruments? I want to make changes such as filters while I am performing.

Is this for a live show? If not, could you do multiple passes and write the automation for the filters and such on the other takes?

@@TimTalksAudio No. I think I figured it out though. I can add automation lanes and record those as inserts in real time and then transform to rendered audio in post. Seems to be the easiest way. Thanks!

It is possible to do it in Cakewalk but you have to do some tricky routing.
