@@maxkonyi is it ok to ask you a tech question about room reverb sends? . .. (well I'll ask anyway. and hope it is alright) . .. when I put the room reverb on individual tracks (I have 4 tracks only) each track has its own individual visual of the room space with the source etc portrayed ... like little people in the room .. I find this so, so helpful. When all tracks are sent to fx channel .. I can't have those individual room visuals to help me adjust BUT it does sound much, much clearer using the sends ... is there a way I can have both? Please 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

@@tonyoneandonly Sorry for the slow reply here Tony! No, you cannot do both but it really isn't needed. That particular visual is very rare to see in a reverb and honestly isn't essential in my opinion. Through varying the send amount, panning and volume of each track, you acheive the same result, keeping a mental visualization for youself, if you like. Trust me, with experience it will all be come very simple and clear!

The Bus channel should be sent to the FX channel/bus, but can you elaborate more on exactly why that is? Just a little confused on that part.
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi 4 жыл бұрын
I assume you're referring to sending the delay bus to the reverb FX channel? The goal: Have the original signal AND delay sound like they are in the same space. The method: - Send original signal to reverb. - Send original signal to delay. (At this point, original signal will have reverb but delay will be totally dry.) - Send delay to reverb. (Now the delayed repetitions (echos) will also have reverb on them, making them sound connected to the original signal because they are in the same 'space'.) That is the purpose. If you don't want your delays to have reverb as well, just leave the delay bus as is (don't send to reverb FX channel).
@BloodSavedMe
@BloodSavedMe 4 жыл бұрын
So basically you have two FX buses, and need to insert delay first then send to a reverb bus, correct?
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi 4 жыл бұрын
I always keep my delay and reverb on separate busses/FX channels. If you want your delay to also have reverb on it, it's best to use a bus instead of an FX channel because FX channels don't have sends. Then, you can make a send from your delay bus to your reverb FX channel. So, in the most basic setup, I have three channels. The original audio/instrument track, a bus with a delay on it, and an FX channel with a reverb on it. The original audio track uses one send for the delay and another for the reverb. The delay bus then uses one send for reverb as well. Hopefully that helps!

Hey Max, I have a question for you. When you turned the send level up to max I could hear the latency that was being introduced to the signal. Does that latency also affect mixing of the wet and dry signals? If that is correct, then the onset of the added reverb doesn't line up with the dry signal. Excellent videos. Thanks for sharing your love of music and your gift of teaching.
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi Жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm not sure what you mean. Can you give me a timestamp for that moment? The onset of the reverb is determined by the pre-delay amount. A large pre-delay will mean an audible gap between the dry signal and the reverb.

Hey Max, great great video, I have a question for what u were talking about at 11:00, instead of making a bus to make the reverb and delay work together, would adding a reverb undern the delay on the same FX bus be the same thing?
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi 2 жыл бұрын
Yes that works, but it means doubling your reverbs since you probably won't want every sound to have delay and reverb. When they are on separate busses, you can send certain tracks just to the reverb, and others to the reverb and the delay.

I follow your video series from start, great and very informative work, thank you! Rewatching this once again after some time and I have a question regarding sends: around 12:00 you say that if I wanted to send delay to reverb I'd have to use bus instead of FX so that I have sends available. But what if I just changed output of this FX from "Main" to the reverb I want to send it to? Wouldn't that work? Sure, I would be sending 100% of the delay to the reverb, but that could probably be adjusted with main fader, right?
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the support! Much appreciated 🙏 Answer: Since the reverb you are sending to is 100% wet (no original signal), if you route the delay directly to it, you will no longer hear the original delay signal with its proper timing relationship. Instead, you will hear the reverb OF the delay, which will have all the characteristics of the reverb (time shifted, different frequency balance, smeared, etc.) We want to hear the original delay as if it is present in the space created by the reverb. For that, we need the dry signal, and the processed reverb signal. Does that make sense?

@@samuelmaylor6634 Ok, make sure the mix knob on the reverb is fully wet (no dry/original signal). If it's still clipping, check how much signal you're sending from the original track - should be less than 0db. If still clipping, just turn down the fader on the reverb track 🌞

Thx. Cant you just add reverb fx etc to the drum bus or other busses? Gracias
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi 4 жыл бұрын
Yes for sure. But often you don't want equal reverb (or even the same reverb) for different pieces of the drum kit. For other busses, it's definitely useful to add a reverb send on them, depending on what's in the bus.

1 more question, do you think reverb should be before or after the delay on the signal chain?
@maxkonyi

Generally, reverb should be after delay. Otherwise, you are making copies of your entire reverb which will lead to a huge reverb...

Since it's best to send Fx's to buses to save CPU, then what's the purpose of Inserts?
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi 2 жыл бұрын
Inserts are when you want to effect a track directly. Sends are for two things: 1). Keeping a 'dry' version of the sound intact while being able to dial in some amount of 'wet' signal 2). Sending multiple tracks through the same effect or processing chain. If you want to distort your guitar, you simply place the distortion directly on the track as an insert and you end up with a distorted guitar. If you used a send, you would end up with a fully clean guitar AND a distorted guitar. Does that make sense?
@JamesWarrenWatts
@JamesWarrenWatts 2 жыл бұрын
@@maxkonyi Thank you kindly for your response. Should I avoid using reverb on inserts and just use a send for reverb?
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi 2 жыл бұрын
@@JamesWarrenWatts Most of the time, yes. However, there are times when it makes sense to place reverb directly on the track as an insert. In cases where only a single instrument requires a specific reverb type, it can make your session cleaner by not adding an send/bus channel that will only be used by one track. Also, using it directly on the track gives you the ability to automate the dry/wet (or mix) knob. This means you can fade the sound into its reverb seamlessly with one line of automation. That isn't so easy when using a send.
