Hi Mike, as you would expect there have been a whole raft of youtubers jumping on the Studio One 7 launch but this is by far the best of the current bunch. More studio one content please. I've been a creative sauce subscriber for quite a while now, from the beginning of your cakewalk tutorials. But having lost patience with all of the Cakewalk/Roland/Gibson/Bandlab shenanigans i decided to switch to Studio One (mostly because your content was so helpful). As ever, excellent content delivered excellently. Many thanks!

Great video, but dissapointed with this release. Seems mostly focussed on loop people using prefab or canned ingredients and less so on composers. This is probably the first major S1 update that I skip, also given the increased cost.

Very logical, straightforward video, Mike. As usual. Excellent organization. Clear and to the point. As for Studio One Pro 7, some of the new features are excellent. Global transpose, like Cubase? Lovely. It even lets you get a little picky about which tracks are affected. The stem separation is better than others I've heard, so I'm loving that. And the new tempo detection seems effective. I also like the rounded clips on the arranger and that loop feature they have, where you can just drag a clip and it'll automatically duplicate as you drag and swipe. Excellent. Worth the upgrade, imo.

After working for 8 hours with the new Studio One Pro 7, (compared with the Studio One 6.4), i can say that by far the BIGGEST improvement, is the ergonomics and visibility ! HUGE difference, to help you see the various "events", and manipulate and arrange them much more easily. Even in the smallest view ( all view window) you can see and move events 500% more easily. So arrangement and composition is much more easy. Also , for those that they have and use splice , its much easier to incorporate a sample in your song. I have tried the rest of the features (global transport , launcher , impact edit view, tempo detection & stem separation) and i can say that although they are very useful , someone will use them from time to time and not always. From the above i found more useful the Impact edit view, which lets you put the kicks, snares, much more easily.

Awesome overview as per usual. ty for your hard work and dedication to the education of current and future musicians/ producers/engineers. Between you and Joe Gilder, i have learned so much since moving from a stint on Ableton after using Cakewalk for years. Please keep the in depth tutorials coming. Personally, i'd love to see a tutorial on using Melodine to convert midi samples to audio and the transcription features. Learning how to generate scores and lead sheets is a fantastic tool set to have.

This "Scene" Features reminds me of the old days with Notator on my Atari. There it was called "Patterns" and they worked exactly the same (Without audio, only MIDI), You programmed patterns with different tracks (instruments), and then you arrange them as you want for making the song structure.

The essentials/ functionality and visuals / smoothness has just been enhanced overall and it's those things that make it for me. Like Jazzy Jeff said, it really does feel like the tool gets out of your way and enables you to get to it. If they create summing extensions that rival or exceed UA LUNAs it would be a chefs kiss. I know they've ventured down that path with those mix channel processing effects but from what I've seen, the existing ones are not really cutting it.

Great introduction video. I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I want to upgrade, but this was very helpful. I do a fair amount of MIDI and would appreciate you going into any new useful MIDI features. One feature I have figured somewhat of a clunky way to send CC codes to my MIDI instruments, if there are some easier ways, I'd be interested. I was a long time Cakewalk used and Cakewalk had a relatively easy way to send the appropriate CC's when I needed. Always enjoy your videos, keep them coming!

Just got v.7.0. it has the one feature I wanted.. a faster way to set the Project/Song tempo map to follow an imported variable tempo Audio .. and force all other tracks to follow the new tempo map.. CWbB it was 3-4 steps.. now, SO 7 is 3-4 steps.. I guess I really helps to send feature requests to PreSonus.. I sent that to them over a year ago.. I'm glad.. Mike, I think I'm making the switch too..

Yes. If we add up the price of each version from the original purchase. Plus this one... Frankly it comes out to be much more expensive than for a new buyer in October 2024. Hey Mike, myself & a few fellow producers have all worked with CWBBL and have also added Studio One 6, they and especially myself now feel lost & confused of how to use it! If you could make a video of how to do a song from start to finish, with how it would be in CWBBL/SONAR, like an detailed extension of the one you already made, with the new features too it would help no end!

Thanks for this video, Mike. As a long time pro user, I was going to hold off on upgrading to V7, but some new features might tempt me now, such as global transpose, advanced tempo detection, stem separation, and several others. Yes, S1 is effectively a subscription now, but unlike many other subscriptions, if you decide to stop paying, you don't lose the ability to use the software. It sucks to pay $149 every year instead of every two years for the latest features, but I think it'll be worth it for me. There are cheaper DAW's that may be as good or better, but I like S1. If all I wanted to do was save money, I would switch to Apple Logic, which I bought with my new laptop a few years ago, but have never used. The upgrades are free, but they don't come that often. I plan to stick with S1. I like that I have the option to only pay the upgrade fee if there are at least a few features that I want. I think this incentivizes PreSonus to innovate, and not just with bullshit features that no one wants. Hopefully for PreSonus, enough people will find it worthwhile to pay every year or two to keep S1 as a viable product.

I like Studio One a lot but my upgrade from 6 to 7 will cost me virtually the same as my recent crossgrade to Cubase Pro in their anniversary sale. Also, the new grid functionality is just a lite version of Live which, IMO, handles this type of track building much more efficiently. Hope this isn’t Presonus’ chosen strategic direction. If so, I’ll be moving to Cubase 100% of the time for scoring and Live for beat making.

Great stuff! It's really a wonder why they didn't tout these features when they announced the new pricing structure, even a super fast "trailer-style" overview would have been enticing at the time. I record acoustic guitars, vocals and a few VST instruments (bass and occasionally choirs, flutes etc). It does seem that the new features are aimed at the hip-hop and EDM creators. There might be a few improvements - the universal transpose could be one such but I don´t record lots of tracks so I don´t have a problem transposing accompaniments at the moment although this would mnake it slightly faster. The big improvements for me since I started in Studio One 3 Artist have been the arranger track, the chord track, the mastering facility and the lyric track. Not interested in surround sound so Atmos didn´t float my boat. I will end up with 7 simply because I have a subscription and I intend to convert to a permanent license when my subscription runs out so that works out well. Would I have paid to upgrade? No, for the reasons stated above.

Best improvement are the GUI improvements! Studio One always looked pretty ugly, now with the rounded corners and such, it finally looks decent enough 😅 Other than that... the auto multi-output thing looks useful, though Logic had something like that for quite a while. New synth is of course also cool. Other than that... not relevant for me. Couldn't care less about the ai stem splitter, in particular.

Why the emphasis on the different track types when talking about the clip launcher? Every DAW with a clip launcher can launch any clip independent of it's track type... That's just weird dude and I immediately have the feeling that you don't know what you're talking about (even though you obviously do) - just weird. On the other hand hyve they improved the inspector, so it either scrolls or has some other way of handling more info for smaller display, than having to drag these tiny handle-bars to resize the different segments in order to see hidden info?

I just always update/save to the latest version. If for some reason you want to keep an older version of the song you can do that. Just save as "save as." Trying to keep this kind of stuff straight is challenging so I just always update as I've never found a case where an older version of Studio One makes more sense than the newest version. That's how I handle it... The only reason I could see you want to retain an older version is to be compatible with someone else's Daw who hasn't upgraded... Again, you can just do a save. As for the new version and label it appropriately so you know what you're doing

Let a few more years pass and we'll see in which direction it takes, it's only version 7.

Yeah… but just because they have one update focusing more on modern music doesn’t mean they’ve abandoned traditional musicians. It remains to be seen what they do going forward. But yeah, this definitely is a modern music centric update.

@@GetSongsDoneAgreed. It’s more modern minded… but S1 still has all the gadgets and whatnot that traditional users need. It’s not like Presonus has just stripped the program of all traditional features. Plus, in 6.5 they updated the score editor for composers. So they are clearly trying to strike a balance between all their different users. And this update just happens to be for the modern crowd. 🤷‍♂️

What kind of people post stuff like this? Amazing upgrades and changes for all different kinds of artists. And this person says nothing new? I definitely never would never even consider listening to something created by such a foolish human who can't see the forest or the trees
