My Favorite that I have been asking for, for over 2 years now... finally... EASY tempo mapping: extracting it from imported variable tempo audio files; setting it's tempo map as the project tempo map and easy to force other audio and midi tracks to follow that tempo map. This was a 3 step process in CWbB, but now SO7 can do it too, and in very few keystrokes.. no more 'guessing the BPM, then randomly checking of each few measures and relining them up to bar lines.. this is WAY easier.. KUDOS PreSonus, you finally satisfied my last and only Nit about this DAW. (Yes, you can use Melodyne, I have it, but I don't want to have to bring it up, each time with its seriously annoying tiny font icons and in menus and submenus and too small to read on a 1080p monitor (Celemony needs to get on the GUI DPI wagon with Melodyne like the rest of the industry is doing for all their plugins! .. just do it!). Great Job PreSonus.. Right On!!!

The essentials/ functionality and visuals / smoothness has just been enhanced overall and it's those things that make it for me. Like Jazzy Jeff said, it really does feel like the tool gets out of your way and enables you to get to it. If they create summing extensions that rival or exceed UA LUNAs it would be a chefs kiss. I know they've ventured down that path with those mix channel processing effects but from what I've seen, the existing ones are not really cutting it.

After working for 8 hours with the new Studio One Pro 7, (compared with the Studio One 6.4), i can say that by far the BIGGEST improvement, is the ergonomics and visibility ! HUGE difference, to help you see the various "events", and manipulate and arrange them much more easily. Even in the smallest view ( all view window) you can see and move events 500% more easily. So arrangement and composition is much more easy. Also , for those that they have and use splice , its much easier to incorporate a sample in your song. I have tried the rest of the features (global transport , launcher , impact edit view, tempo detection & stem separation) and i can say that although they are very useful , someone will use them from time to time and not always. From the above i found more useful the Impact edit view, which lets you put the kicks, snares, much more easily.

Very logical, straightforward video, Mike. As usual. Excellent organization. Clear and to the point. As for Studio One Pro 7, some of the new features are excellent. Global transpose, like Cubase? Lovely. It even lets you get a little picky about which tracks are affected. The stem separation is better than others I've heard, so I'm loving that. And the new tempo detection seems effective. I also like the rounded clips on the arranger and that loop feature they have, where you can just drag a clip and it'll automatically duplicate as you drag and swipe. Excellent. Worth the upgrade, imo.
@petersvan78802 ай бұрын
Great video, but dissapointed with this release. Seems mostly focussed on loop people using prefab or canned ingredients and less so on composers. This is probably the first major S1 update that I skip, also given the increased cost.

100% - Presonus decided to serve a sub-section of the user base and ignored the rest of us. If you use samples, synths and make electronica then it's fine, but I don't - I record live musicians and want deeper editing and workflow features, updated audio plugins. Shame, but maybe the next feature set will address that imbalance.

@@CreativeSauce There are lots of people that do not make loop based music that have enjoyed ableton for coming up with ideas, for a long time. And I think the way presonus have implemented it feels better when combining arranger and launcher. But not as straightforward when in lancher only. What I would have liked every daw with a launcher interface have, is a separate launcher-arranger view, for dealing with the material that makes up the clips, so you can do multipli takes and use comping methods, and directly see the loop-points, and so on (instead of having to go to a specific clip and look at the inspector). Among many of the "haters", you find people saying that it isn't useful for real musicians, but it is actually a great tool for simulating jamming with other musicians, to crystallize ides. it is much more fluid and flexible, compared to working with loop-points on the arranger timeline.

Thanks for this video, Mike. As a long time pro user, I was going to hold off on upgrading to V7, but some new features might tempt me now, such as global transpose, advanced tempo detection, stem separation, and several others. Yes, S1 is effectively a subscription now, but unlike many other subscriptions, if you decide to stop paying, you don't lose the ability to use the software. It sucks to pay $149 every year instead of every two years for the latest features, but I think it'll be worth it for me. There are cheaper DAW's that may be as good or better, but I like S1. If all I wanted to do was save money, I would switch to Apple Logic, which I bought with my new laptop a few years ago, but have never used. The upgrades are free, but they don't come that often. I plan to stick with S1. I like that I have the option to only pay the upgrade fee if there are at least a few features that I want. I think this incentivizes PreSonus to innovate, and not just with bullshit features that no one wants. Hopefully for PreSonus, enough people will find it worthwhile to pay every year or two to keep S1 as a viable product.

I like Studio One a lot but my upgrade from 6 to 7 will cost me virtually the same as my recent crossgrade to Cubase Pro in their anniversary sale. Also, the new grid functionality is just a lite version of Live which, IMO, handles this type of track building much more efficiently. Hope this isn’t Presonus’ chosen strategic direction. If so, I’ll be moving to Cubase 100% of the time for scoring and Live for beat making.

I record acoustic guitars, vocals and a few VST instruments (bass and occasionally choirs, flutes etc). It does seem that the new features are aimed at the hip-hop and EDM creators. There might be a few improvements - the universal transpose could be one such but I don´t record lots of tracks so I don´t have a problem transposing accompaniments at the moment although this would mnake it slightly faster. The big improvements for me since I started in Studio One 3 Artist have been the arranger track, the chord track, the mastering facility and the lyric track. Not interested in surround sound so Atmos didn´t float my boat. I will end up with 7 simply because I have a subscription and I intend to convert to a permanent license when my subscription runs out so that works out well. Would I have paid to upgrade? No, for the reasons stated above.

Maybe I am missing something here. This is the third "how to" / Features of Studio One 7 I have watched and I am still unclear how the Advanced Tempo Detection is useful to a song. In the examples given, additional instrument recordings will be forced to "lock in" to a fluctuating midi drum track/tempo track? How is this helpful? I can see if this put the audio track in time with a fixed tempo and it then could be used as a scratch track for the rest of the recording, but to me this feature isn't useful. To automatically put the audio track (not recorded to a set tempo) to a specific tempo, I use Ableton to "WARP" the audio track (automatically) then output (with a click) to StudioOne 7 and presto! I align with the Studio One tempo / click rack and now I am ready to add the rest of the tracks with the original audio track aligned to the designated tempo for reference. (or perhaps to even leave in!) Set me straight if I have the purpose of this feature wrong. I'm just a drummer and may be missing the point.

Regarding the Stem separation. To my ears from demo videos, I don't hav pro 7, it performs worse than some that are even supposedly using the same algorithm. I don't think they should have integrated stem separation, or not in this way (but honestly with their pricing, that is the only option if they were to include it). Spectralayers pro, does stem separation, but it also offers additional features making use of a similar process, so it is an tool, that feels like a professional tool. But Steinberg has not integrated it fully to cubase, probably because it makes more sense as a 3rd party solution, that is attractive even to users of other DAWs, and therefor, it has to be competitive. I am not completely against STEM separation, even without the extra tools. It does make sense for someone, who exploring making remixes, and before you know if you will be able to make something out of a song, it does not make sense to license samples/stems/multi-tracks. But that is a quit niche use, that does not feel professional, and for that reason, it makes little sense in a DAW, marketed at pros as well. If they wanted it "integrated", they could have done someting similar to the splice integration, that way they could have also relied on a cloud base service that would probably imrpove over time, without relying on studio one being updated. I am not confident that as a built in feature, STEM sepration will get the attention it actually needs to keep up with 3rd party solutions, in terms of quality. If they wanted something built in to use AI hype marketing, it would have made much more sense to build their own sample identification AI, and have it built in, to do similar thing to the splice integration, but with samples the users have on their discs. That is something a lot of people would find really useful.

I just always update/save to the latest version. If for some reason you want to keep an older version of the song you can do that. Just save as "save as." Trying to keep this kind of stuff straight is challenging so I just always update as I've never found a case where an older version of Studio One makes more sense than the newest version. That's how I handle it... The only reason I could see you want to retain an older version is to be compatible with someone else's Daw who hasn't upgraded... Again, you can just do a save. As for the new version and label it appropriately so you know what you're doing
