I agree - I hate the rhino mode. It's so weirdly arched, and it makes me like the blockier aesthetic of the mainline version. Rhinos ARE bricks in the first place, so the dichotomy of bulkiness and slenderness in the rhino mode makes no sense. Great review!

Huh... I would have assumed you'd like the figure. One of the best in the SS ROTB line for my money. Loved that they put effort into adding the extra details like the horns on his back. We don't really get transformation steps dedicated to just the aesthetics, so it's very much appreciated. The transformation is really refreshing. By moving the chest down, they were able to redistribite the bulk of the robot mode very cleanly and efficiently. And the rhino mode is gorgeous. I really can't see how the brick of a mainline rhino mode is better than the organic SS Rhino mode. To each his own, I guess?

I honestly don't understand how you think the rhino mode is gorgeous. The robot chest is just kinda there, the legs are just chilling on the back, there's no connection between any of the parts that should be connected. I actually do like it but it is a _mess._ Oh love your reviews btw. It's nice to have English reviews for more Japanese centric toys.

@@DiggitySlice Agree to disagree? I don't see a robot chest, I see a rhino belly. When displayed on a shelf, you can't see any of the large gaps, and I think the back legs are fine? They need to be pushed forwards to minimize the disconnect between the front and back halves, and they work, especially to replicate the movie model. It's really one of the better, if not the best, rhino modes I've seen that manages to capture the silhouette and shape of a rhino very nicely. Thanks for the support! (^.^)

Trying to remember, was it the movie line or the studio series Airrazor that was using new engineering while the other is just a repaint of the Kingdom one? I was rather impressed that the new one used the legs to form the wings. Just trying to figure out whether the case of Rhinox makes the two lines tied or one of them 2-for-2 and the other a big fat zero.

I just bought the thrilling 30 Rhinox, as I needed a rhinox, but before I found it for a good price, I considered getting this despite, not liking the movie colours, (like seriously just grey, not even a hint of green) or really the design, buy I had a rhino shaped hole in my collection at needed filled . After watching this I’m so, SO, glad I found the thrilling 30.

Even if the dude wasn’t in the movie much his design is still great. I love how beefy he is and a sledge hammer work great for Rhinox. And idk what you mean when you say double jointed knees. His actual knee bend is only one joint and the other joint is his transformation joint. Solid proportions in the mainline? Have you forgotten how HUGE his shins are?

Honestly, at least this, I couldn't dissagree with some of you crtitics this time. As much as I can agree that the poaseabilitty can be inproved, the rest of the video can be preaty much summend up as "you don't like the look". As for the fold up hammer. From what I had seen this for storage on his back. But even with that in mind, I can agree the hammer could been done better. As for the question of the video... Have you seen the "Transformers Frankenstains' s monster" reveal. And if so, what's you thoughts about it.

I've seen it, and I both love and hate it, there are so many clever details on that thing, but it's also kind of really ugly, but intentionally so. And no, that's not what the rest of the video boiled down to, that's a lot of the video, but like probably my most important criticism of this thing, is how bad the transformation is.

I wonder if you could swap heads between the two Rhinoxes, as that's the only part the SS figure's better at as far as I'm concerned. Still, I'm pretty happy with my mainline Rhinox, especially since I don't care enought for his RoTB incarnation to pine for a super accurate toy of the design. G1 Headstrong's toy colors look pretty good on the mold if I do say so myself.

His design comes off as more frankensteined-together than the actual Frankenstein Crossover figure. He has the torso of a Leader Class figure photoshopped onto the waist, legs and arms of a Voyager Class figure. I'm getting Beast Machines Cheetor flashbacks.

The reason why the 07 cons were gray was so they could be able to more accurately disguise as the vehicles so as to raise the stakes, and in 07 and rotf, Michael Bay insisted that red on vehicles was a sin against humanity, even worse than knees on lego mechs, until dotm when they got digital cameras and were suddenly able to film red vehicles because yes. That being said, there was no excuse for the other movies, with soundwave's car even being available in soundwave blue at the time. Also, I think rhinox was a bit more of a darker gray in the movie, wich makes the ss look even more bland.

Studio Series Rhinox maybe screen accurate, to what screen time he had, but I didn't get his figure. As I still prefer the ROTB mainline Rhinox figure over it. -Also question for you. When you got this figure, did your copy have the instruction saying he's from Revenge of the Fallen. Some Transformers reviewers, briximus prime and foxitron prime for example, got their Rhinox instructions with the incorrect movie title.

@@domydomy6668 While it’s doubtful Hasbro would discontinue this mold for several years (it’s an SS figure that a lot of people really want. Hasbro would be stupid to discontinue it that quickly, especially without releasing it as a regular SS release rather than just a Buzzworthy exclusive) it is kind of shocking how little they produced this figure. There might have been only two copies of Optimus for every Target that got them. And they certainly haven’t been back in stock since their day of release. Though an odd thing I saw on HasbroPulse is that they no longer refer to Optimus as SS 102; now just SS Optimus. So it does make me wonder if something has changed. Perhaps they intend to release him as a regular, non-exclusive SS figure sooner than we thought? We’ll have to see what happens come the next Pulsecon (should we even get news of the figure during that time).

Tbh it’s kind of a bummer seeing you dig into this figure seeing as it quickly became one of my favorite TF figures yet. The tolerance issues you had might just be your copy, because I don’t appear to have the same issues with certain transformation joints. Then again, opinions will always be subjective, and it’s okay if we don’t agree on some things every now and then.

I reccomend the little Battle Changer Rhinox - he has no elbows and one hand is replaced by his spinning blade gun, but the transformation is quick and fun, the joints he does have are all pretty mobile, and he's only like ten bucks. He's also got a much more classic Rhinox character design translated into movie brown and grey with gold trim, so if you want bayformer Rhinox he's got the right colors and you never saw him on screen enough to tell the difference anyway siunce the head actually mostly matched for once, and if you want the real Rhinox it's easy enough to slap some green on his head, shoulders, and down the indsides of his arms.

Ya that’s how I feel about all the Studio Series Maximals from Cheetors ungodly head, to Primal’s attempt to make the ROTB head seem less like Optimus Prime, to this figure and oh let’s not forget Airazor using a remolded figure of Kingdom Airazor I swear that Kingdom Airazors is becoming the new Classic Seeker model considering that Nightshade from Earthspark is using a heavy remold of that figure.

So rhinox is one of those figures that is really and I mean really hard to find, I’ve looked everywhere in stores trying to look for it and I couldn’t even find it, I ordered it on hasbro pulse and when I finally got it I was happy on getting it, but when I got it, I thought the figure was good, not great, but good, there are some minor problems but those problems really don’t bother me that much, but I just have to ask, this whole time I was waiting and looking for a figure that was ok or decent at best? Granted it’s the best rhinox figure, but it’s like you said, why was this figure getting a lot of hype, and now all of a sudden I see him In stores which idk why he’s in stores but ok, so overall best rhinox figure but really confused on why it was getting a lot of hype, even I was asking the same question.

I weirdly get more happiness with the mainline one. The 98% grey deco on this boy just kills the vibe; i never thought a brown/silver combo would be way more appealing to me personally. SS rhinox just looks like a war machine suit reject that got shat on.

Psa to anyone lucky enough to see the ss ROTB Optimus Prime and are on the fence about whether or not you want it just know that that from here on out all targets are not ordering anymore of that figure and are cancelling preorders. So if there is one near you and you have at least some want for it I would pick it up.

Reminds me when I got ss wfc optimus, was never really hyped for him but when i got him I couldn't see where all the praise was coming from. Also reminds me of this one dude in my gi joe Facebook community who keeps on making posts wanting to trade his gi joe figures for ss rotb primal and its as annoying as people asking to rp in r34 subreddit. Also what is better to be a "bad with a lot of hype and defense" than a rise of the beasts figure?

What I don't understand about these SS maximals is, why would you start from the robot and then go into the beast when the characters are seen as beasts or 90% of their screentime if not more? These guys should've started in beast mode and worked backwards into the robot mode, and compromised the robots for more accurate beast modes.

I totally agree when i saw this at my local target i wanted to get it but I didn't like the general design (except the head) and when i looked at the beast mode on the back of the box i said to myself WTF is this? It's like the horse drawing meme where it looks like a kid drew it in the back half, the middle part looks like someone gets the idea but still looks average meanwhile the front half looks like it was drawn by someone who knowns the horse adding realistic details. Another reason i didn't get it is mostly because the lack of color and the lack of screen time he had in the film. I never knew people were saying how good it was. I don't think I'll get any of the ROTB characters except for the upcoming SS Primal figure

also its funny that while i really like the gunmetal silver shine, in 4k scenes of the movie, ROTB Rhinox actually has BW Rhinoxs Green its just REALLY not shining lol. Same with Cheetors Blue highlights

It seems all the maximals, execpt for primal, (and cheetor?) seem to have gotten the REAL short end of the stick when it comes to figures, inaccurate paint, odd joints, janky transformations, and one that doesn't even look like it came from the movie because it's a kingdom retool. I just got this guy and he's definitely not amazing. His rhino horn doesn't clip into place in the beast mode so it just wiggles back and forth. His hind legs don't tab in either so those get out of place. Finally his chest comes EVERYTIME I transform him.
