Yes, I tried them but I did not spend a lot of time playing with them. Work (teach art) and life always seem to get in the way of making my own art! Also, have you tried a matte varnish to lessen the shine for your acrylic painting? One more thing...😬 I was watching a video of you making your own sauerkraut or was it coleslaw?? Do you have a recipe for it? Thanks so much!!!☺️💕

@@gracied7379 I usually don’t like matte varnish in anything because it has more of a “cloudy” look to it and I don’t like that. I think I may have put a link to where I got the recipe in the description. If not, just search it on KZbin - lots of helpful videos on there.

Loved this, as always! You've inspired me to: 1) Try flashe paint - I ordered a few jars and have discovered I really like the feel of them - sort of like acrylic and gouache had a baby. 2) Use my own older paintings (one of them is probably 28 years old 😳) as references - I hadn't done that in awhile and I'm loving it. 3) Take a more of a playful approach to my painting. Thank YOU!

@sandihester4 жыл бұрын
Hey Lilian!!! So glad to have you here!!!! I'm really glad you are enjoying the channel - thank you so much for taking time to let me know. You're not ignorant at all - most people have no idea what flashe paint is - it's a french made paint that is vinyl - it's got an amazing consistency and dries very matte. I'm going to be doing a WHOLE video on it soon!
@liliangarcez31804 жыл бұрын
@@sandihester Thank you for answering, Sandi. I also draw and paint, but I don't consider myself an artist because I don't think I have technique. The glow of acrylic has always bothered me too, but I didn't know an alternative. Another thing I'm thinking about changing is the support. I paint on canvas, but I think the paper makes the process more dynamic. Which paper do you use? Do you need to prepare the paper? Looking forward to the next videos. I'm also following you in the instagram. Kisses!
@sandihester4 жыл бұрын
There is a great alternative to the shiny acrylic - I'm actually going to start talking about it in my next video and then will show me using it in the following video - it's Golden's matte acrylic and I'M LOVING IT!!! I think painting on paper is great - it's cheap, it's easy to prepare, it's easy to ship if someone wants to buy it and you feel less stressed about what you are creating because, heck, it's just 1 piece of paper! If you're using oil or oil pastels (really oily ones - not the ones that are more like wax) you do need to gesso it but for anything else (acrylic, watercolor, gouache) you don't have to! as far as paper you just need to experiment. You need to decide if you like smooth or something textured - copy paper won't work but something with a little weight to it would be good - you don't have to get something crazy thick unless that's what you like. I share stuff like this through my videos so as you're watching you'll probably pick up stuff here and there. Hope that helps!
@liliangarcez31804 жыл бұрын
@@sandihester Yes, it helped a lot. I couldn't agree with you more about the weight of painting on canvas, especially the psychological weight. I'm exactly going through this and I was even thinking about giving up painting, but finding you made me see that this matter of painting can and should be lighter and more playful. I think I will migrate to paper. Thanks again!
