you can try body doubling (virtual or in person). I find it super hard to study due to my adhd and the only thing that can get me to do it is body doubling. (if you don't know what it is its basically having someone in the same room you study in. ie a friend, family member, partner, etc)

Why do I love studying and all its aesthetic and studytube BUT once i sit to study i can't cause my brain prefers to procrastinate :(
@sourcedancer70793 жыл бұрын
This sounds familiar XD. I've been watching/reading about 'how to study' and also ran into some of these aesthetic videos. I'm finding that a lot of them do give some good tips and advice. Using that advice and those tips requires practice and willpower though. My brain is out of practice and has years of bad habits (f.e. only focusing for a short while on a superficial thing that I'm curious about, not doing any harder thinking like abstract or logical stuff or trying to connect the dots, not actively trying to remember things), and I never learned how to study effectively in my years of going to school because they never taught me and I didn't know there were better methods out there. But now I know there's different ways and I've found stuff that I really want to learn, so I'm working on re-training my brain. Aaaand yes, I do get distracted after 2 minutes or reading 3 sentences. Ooor pick up my book, and then put it away again to 'check something' or go do something else instead. But if I keep at it; keep picking up the book, minimizing distractions, keep trying to read, make a nice cozy place to study in, and do more of the tips and advice that I've found, I'll get better. And so you will you :D! Remember, tiny foxtato believes in you! You can do the thing!
@gaiaiori14553 жыл бұрын
It might be irrelevant but I was just like you. I knew I needed help tho cause I kept on procrastinating... Then I started watching those "live study with me" videos ok yt and idk it helped me so much... I for real started focusing more. So, uhm, I suggest to try it if you're struggling too :)

1- have clear goals, don't just simply study with no end goal. 2- Don't try to focus on two things at one, and try to avoid background noise. 3- Use active study methods. Don't just highlight or rewrite notes, that's passive. 4- Try harder question, don't just do what's easy and what you already know you know. Identify your weak points and then Focus on patching them up. 5- Make a space JUST for studying. don't study in your bed! Make a desk for studying so your brain can immediately associate studying with certain locations and this will help you motivate yourself. Make it COMFORTABLE and COZY. 6- get help! Work on your difficulties and look for resources by yourself, but if you really need outside help, don't hesistate to ask. Ask a REAL person, not from the internet.

9:29 I've got my little thing to say about this! I personally study in my bed, mostly because 1: i use my tablet that has got some features to take notes, highlight and open documents and ect... I just noticed that im more productive on a screen, and i can use my tablet in my bed easily. I know that i might get distracted from staying on the same screen that I use to play around with, but i learnt how to switch mindsets! I bought this device for school, so whenever i start a task i keep going until i reached my goal for my study session, and if i can't focus now, then i just stop and do something relaxing then take my documents/files back easily!( I remember the purpose of me buying my device too. )Its easier because i don't have to search through papers and lose extra energy in that, i just have to type the keywords 2: I passively learn everyday on my tablet and social medias so make sure that everything i learn in my free time while in bed has the same goal as studying for uni: which is making me smarter, so i don't link being in my bed =/= being unproductive 3: As someone who has got some anxiety and depression , i just settled with the idea that i don't have to be somewhere else than in bed to start a task. I prefer staying in my comfort zone to minimize stress and exhaust myself less as well, because my mind is comfortable when im there and i feel safe, everything spot that isn't my bed somehow feels unfamiliar and creates some pressure linked with the mindset of "if im on my desk, ive got to be 100% serious" which is personally just stressing me out

Studying method that has been helpful for me: 1. take notes that contain relevant information. Don't fill your notes to the brim with every word, but instead focus on what the instructor is saying and what they are emphasizing. This is more than likely going to be what's on the test. 2. Organize your notes into distinct topics with headers that summarize the topic. For example, if there's a section about Romantic symbolism in Romeo and Juliet, then the header may be "Romantic Symbolism in Romeo and Juliet". 3. use those distinct headers as prompts, and pretend you're teaching someone else. Cover the info that is written below the headers, and practice using that brief header to explain the topic in depth. Jump around to different topics, make sure you can do it succinctly, and eventually, you'll be able to recall the important info from step 1 just by looking at a few key words. You'll associate those key words with the important info. This is a great way to turn note-reading into an active method, instead of just passively reading.

@mia15303 жыл бұрын
I highly suggest watching the video for more information, but here’s the main points and timestamps if you’re short on time (hopefully because you want to study!) *1:33** - Forgetting to set goals and plans for studying.* Goals are important so that you can be more efficient while organizing your information and studying. ~2:13 - Instead, determine your and create a plan to reach the goal. *4:07** - Multitasking during study time.* Physiologically, your brain can’t multitask. So it takes more time to do the activities at the same time, rather than completing them individually. ~5:24 - Instead, focus on one task at a time. ~5:40 - Try studying without background noise, or with music that does not contain lyrics, such as ambient noise. *5:53** - Passive study methods.* These include rereading notes or your textbook. It’s more important to be able to recall information instead of just recognizing it in your notes. ~6:49 - Instead, use active studying methods, such as flashcards and practice tests. *7:21** - Only doing what’s easy.* Challenging yourself helps you learn! ~8:45 - Identify your weak points and address them. A good way to identify weak points is by doing a practice test. *9:20** - Studying in bed.* Our brains normally consider our beds a place to relax or sleep. ~10:41 - Pick a spot and make it your designated spot to study. Try making it cozy and happy so you’re encouraged to study! *11:49** - Always refusing help from others or neglect asking for help.* You can interact with people, which is much better than looking for answers online. ~12:35 - Overcome mental roadblocks like pride. Everyone needs help sometimes! People have different knowledge, so you can share your knowledge with each other. Keep in mind, some of these might work for you, and that’s okay. They are general guidelines to help you determine your studying issues. Have a nice time studying, everyone!

Music with lyrics actually helps me ground myself to the work more because I tend to zone out a lot while trying to focus because I'm thinking about the topic and then it just branches out to something else and then 5 minutes later I'm thinking about the super Mario overworld theme sounding like green green.

I really agree your last point Jasmine! I used to be shyyy and literally just ignore those topic that I just... can't do but here I am telling you guys to ASK! JUST ASK for real no one cares and some teachers are really surprisingly nice! (My teacher recorded a video specially for me about solving a past year paper and I'm quite shock about the effort my teacher put in!) It may be hard asking for the first time but it'll get better! And add some joy to your studying as well~ Good luck everyone

Yes!! Spot on. Would also add that any teacher or TA or whatever who cares or gets pissy at you or thinks you're stupid bc you _asked for help_ is a jerk anyway lmao, so who cares if they care. 😂

agreed 100%. if anything, asking for help in school will prepare you for when you need to ask for help when you start working. i never asked for help bc i didn't want to be a burden to anyone & i'm paying the price for it now lol. bc when you start working, the actions you take have real-life consequences & when you screw up, you're not just affecting your own grades like in school...

@@yasmin-lx4kb tbh my physics is horrible i got C or fail every single time, and i spent one whole month just revising physics by myself it was hard really...(I self-learned almost 15 chapters) im sure you can try self-learning! (please try before its too late) You can search up on KZbin or google anything you dont understand and ask your friend! I learned almost everything through Khan Academy that time (before i started taking tuition aka extra class) plus not to mention the teacher that recorded the pastyear is my tuition teacher not my class teacher (you can consider learning from different teacher if your family allow!) all the best!

Terrible study habits to avoid *1. Forgetting to set up goals* If you don't set up goals, you don't know what to study so you just wander around *2. Multitasking* Always focus on one thing. Including listening to music, it can distract you. Avoid sounds that can distract you, like TV sounds. *3. Passive study methods (re-reading)* Use active studying techniques, such as: - Flashcards - Practice tests - Teaching a friend *4. Only doing what's easy* Identify and address your weak points and focus on that topic. How to know your weak points: Take a full practice exam of that material (available online, taking tests from old midterms) and take a close look of what you tend to get wrong (certain topic or type of question) *5. Studying in bed* Studies have shown that if you learn the information and study in the same place as you are going to take the test (such as in the same classroom, same desk, etc.), you'll do better on that test. And of course, studying in bed can make you feel sleepy, or you even might fall asleep. Instead, create a comfy and productive workspace. Stay far from distractions (such as phones, TVs, etc.), and stay close to your studying essentials (notebook, textbooks, stationeries, etc.) *6. Refusing to get help* Start off by working through your difficulties individually and look for resources by yourself that way you don't get overly dependent on anybody else. But at a certain time, it might be time to acknowledge that you need outside help from a real person, not just Google and others. Teachers, tutors, or study groups have actual knowledge that they can help share with you, and you can actually interact with them, unlike the internet. So don't be afraid to ask help, because everyone needs help. Asking for help doesn't mean that you don't know enough or smart enough. People might sometimes be shy, but just remember, people generally want to help you, especially teachers and tutors because they are generally very nice and helpful people and they are made to help people with problems they can't solve themselves.

to the multitasking: there’s also research that some people (especially more extroverted ones) need more stimuli to work at their best, so to some degree background noise does help some people :)

One tip I have is to listen to music in a foreign language (such as K-pop) if you like to listen to music with lyrics. You won't fixate on the lyrics because you can't understand them, and I find the music can be more energising than classical music or white noise.

Guys, I just can't improve myself. No matter what. I can't stop procrastinating. I can't study consistently. I waste time. My major reason for procrastinating is anxiety, thinking about studying makes me so anxious, makes my chest hurt because I've always made plans and I've never went through them. I'm always pulling all nighters and cramming, always studying right before the deadline or when I'm under a large amount of pressure so my brain has just associated even the thought of studying with a lot of stress. I want to improve myslef. But I can't. I'm tired of myself. I hate myself. Why can't I just build the habit of studying everyday? Why can't I manage my time well? Why do I get do anxious all the time? 😭 I want someone, _anyone_ to help.

I love everything about the video! Very helpful, thank you. :) Just one thing: it’s actually proven that your brain can handle multitasking. Of course, not in the way you describe it, you’re totally right that you can’t study and listen to something for example, but multitasking is actually an amazing skill to train, regarding to everything but studying. Multitasking is a useful skill when it comes to more simple tasks. Let’s say, you’re cooking dinner, listening to an audiobook/podcast and planning what you’re going to the after dinner at the same time. That’s the type of multitasking that is actually beneficial. But of course, as you said, it’s not alright to multitask while studying. Still, it’s scientifically proven that our brain and body can multitask. :))

In order to effectively reduce distractions during my study/work sessions, I generally play my Lo-Fi playlist and use the iPhone accessibility features for my headphones to play rain in the background of my music. It is really effective and I’ve really seen improvements in my performance. I also keep my phone on Do Not Disturb (DND) and to keep myself from getting too fatigued, I work for 40 minutes and take a 20 minute break. This break tends to be a small doodle, a short KZbin video, or a round of Plague Inc..
