What I regret about high school is always study all the time and sacrificed by extracurriculars for the sake of perfect grades. In all my high school memories, I can only remember study and only like 1% of the time I had fun with my friends. If I will be able to go back to school for my senior year, then I would really join the clubs I truly want to, but couldn’t because of studying and I will also join more social events in my school.

I completely agree with 'master your study skills!' I never studied in high school, ever. I dropped out of university once because I was overwhelmed. I've just come back for the second time at 22, and let me tell you, trying to learn to study (especially in STEM) after you've been working a boring adult job is HARD. Even as a so-called "gifted" person, I struggle every single day with retention, dedication and motivation. Learning these skills in high school will put you in a much better place to cope with college!

Dude, Im a senior undergraduate whos going to start a graduate program in the fall, and I worked my ass off in highschool and come from a single, low income household. Im in a decent amount of debt and it stresses me out. Highschoolers, especially those of you whos family struggles with money, PLEASE do yourself a favor and apply for the opportunity scholarship studyquill mentions in this video. I've applied to 20+ scholarships and have gotten to semi-finals for only one and have recieved NOTHING. The labor and time I invested in applying for these scholarships made me feel so powerless because my family lives paycheck to paycheck and ive worked so hard throughout my life. I feel blessed that financial aid at my uni has helped us so much, but it wasnt enough to go to uni comfortably. This scholarship opportunity may help yall in the long run, and trust me, every penny counts. Unfortunately collegeboard did not offer this scholarship money when I was in highschool, and the best I could do is encourage the class of 2020 generation to apply for this. I would apply to this in a heartbeat if I could! I hope this comment helps someone

Hey, remember to always make time to be happy. In the beginning of my senior year, a student in my class had a sudden heart attack and died. He was very focused on school and one of the top students. He'd spent all his life waiting for future happiness, but unfortunately, he didn't get to live long enough to reach it. So always make sure to find happiness in the present, because you can't control your future. Study hard, but make time for your family, your friends, your hobbies, and the things that fulfill you. 💖

I relate so much to the regret of putting off the fun for later. I definitely had fun with my friends and went out from time to time but I was so focused on my grades and academic standing that I never had a quintessential high school experience. I never dated anyone or went to sports games and I really only started to engage in high school life during my senior year. That was so fun and amazing once I did do it but obviously our senior year has been cut short and many of the things that I had been looking forward to like prom and the spring musical never happened.

Having everything timed out in blocks saved me since I was geniunly in 2 clubs, 3 sports, and 5 AP/HP classes sophtmore year, and changing it for junior year made life so much more fun.

About the first regret you mentioned (not taking enough breaks/being too focused on the future), I totally share that and I know a lot of other high-achieving recent high school grads who do too. But I just want to mention -- it's not completely our faults! I had a 2-hr conversation with my dad today about how rigged high school and college admissions are against you. They force you to run on a never-ending hamster wheel, and taking a break of even one day a week is impossible because you lose your momentum, end up not getting hw done or not studying as much as you should've, and giving yourself more work in the future. As someone with average intelligence but high ambitions, I had to work myself practically to death in high school to get straight As and be a good leader/member of several clubs, and even then I was really disappointed with my college application results. High schools, colleges, and college board all convince us that our hard work will pay off, but in the end, there are a bunch of other factors that are more important than grades in college admissions, and college board and colleges get millions (if not billions?) out of us every year.

Same! I don't regret applying to any of the universities I was rejected from because, if I had chickened out and not applied to the schools, I would not be attending my dream school in (hopefully) the fall. However, I was definitely very scared and I applied to way to many mid-tier and "safety" schools for no reason. I didn't spend that much money on it but sometimes I recognize that I would've never gone to these schools, and I don't actually know why I applied. It's important to HAVE safeties and matches, but have 7 total in that category was really necessary (for me). Maybe looking back I just underestimated myself but, honestly yea. Also I definitely agree that I caved in fear of challenges, though. In terms of academics I've always taken the most challenging course load without fail, but I wish I'd tried to apply to internships and other opportunities.

hmm my regrets in highschool.. I was severely depressed for a lot of my childhood, and while I wish I wasnt, I refuse to call that a regret because it isn't my fault. I work myself to death and then some, im going into gr12 this fall, and its weird because I don't regret it? At least not yet. I have a 94 average this year, and I worked very hard to achieve that. The burnout was exhausting but I'd do it again because I'm proud of what I achieved and I know my family was proud of me. I realize it's unhealthy and it is something I'm trying to work on, but it's hard to want to change because whenever I don't reach the goals I set for myself, the self hatred is just so intense. I truly wind up loathing myself, for weeks. I'd rather experience burnout. I wished I had gotten the stick out of my ass sooner. I believed that because I was smart, I was above everyone. Newsflash: you're not. Smart is not a personality trait and if you try to make it one, it will not be a good one. I wished I had been pushed in a creative direction sooner. MUCH sooner. other than that.. I don't regret much? But honestly I had no real options. My school doesn't have clubs. We don't have anything except sports and I hate sports. I don't fit in with my class very well, so I don't have many friends. We don't go to parties and do things like that, we just hang out and relax, or do our creative work and ignore each other. That's what makes us happy.

I love how pure and honest you were.Tbh deep down a lot of regrets happen because of self esteem issues/insecurities, even if it isn't so obvious. One tip i have for people who are going to high school is to have fun and take care of your mental health. Because in the end mental health is everything, if your not happy then problems will arise. A lot of regrets happen because of self esteem issues/insecurities/mental health so take care of yourself, and realize the things that you need to realize. It can be hard to know what these things are to realize and even I myself cannot really explain it, but to people who have suffered with mental health issues such as severe depression and severe adhd, it is easier to realize these sorts of things. It is better to learn these things at a younger age because you eventually will in life. A lot of people probably wont understand this but I hope it helped.

As a senior, there are still many scholarships open right now! I would recommend (not just to seniors) to apply to scholarships that are from local organizations rather than big scholarships (like Coca Cola and Pepsi and McDonald’s etc.) Although you can apply to big scholarships, there a lot more competitive with a larger applicant pool. Local scholarships/those under 5000, although smaller amounts of money, have a smaller applicant pool and you can get awards easier. If you recycle you essays and apply to many, you can earn so much money. Remember every dollar counts! Good luck to all the classes after 2020 :)

Tip 5 and Tip 1 are the only things you need to take out of this. As someone who was average in high school and now doing a PhD in Computer Science, high school was never an impact in my life.

Why do I relate to all of the regrets?😅😂 Also, a financial video would be great!! My parents always want me and my siblings to rely on them for financial stuff but there’s gonna be a point where we gotta learn for ourselves. Some tips from you would be awesome!

when i was in high school all i cared about was graduating. i didnt care about going to college all that much, so i focused more in passing my classes acceptably rather than standing out, but at the same time i had little to no social life at all. i did get in a school i was interested in and in a major i like, which means the past three years ive spent stressing about every single aspect of my life were for no reason at all.

I just graduated from high school and one of my biggest regrets was not joining a club because my friends weren’t interested in the same club. I eventually ended up joining it in my junior year without my friends, but I ended up meeting people who had the same interests so it was worth it. Another thing is if you find something remotely interesting, go for it. I found volleyball 0.000001% interesting in elementary and high school, but I never joined because it hurt my arms (something I should’ve expected lol). I recently played a game with my friend who got into volleyball and I found the sport to be really enjoyable. For anyone starting/continuing high school, concentrate on your studies, have fun, and live in the moment!

One more thing! Practice is really important with anything. If you expect to be good at something the first or second time you do it, you’ve misunderstood it (I learned the hard way). I was used to understanding everything on the fly in elementary to sophomore year that I did not develop the right habits. So if you want to be good at something, commit to it.

do you think it's okay to join a team despite being bad at the sport? or will i set the team back or stress myself too much?

i’m in my sophomore year of college now and i still think about how much i hated high school. it was just so...dumb to me. i wish i had taken more ap classes, i walked into college with 18 credit hours, but with 2 majors and a minor, more would have been helpful. i also wish i had done more college research, even though i do like my current school. consider things like the town/area!! i love my school cause it’s small and liberal arts based but the town it’s in is Not It

I REGRET TRYING SO MUCH FOR GRADES THAT I SOMETIMES NEGLECT IMPORTANT DATES AND EVEN MY OWN BIRTHDAY. MOST OF IT DIDNT MATTER AT THIS POINT. AND YEARS AFTER THAT I DIDNT REMEMBER THAT I GOT AN A ON THIS PAPER OR THAT BUT I FELT MOST ALIVE WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT I ENJOY SOMETHNG OR LITTLE TIMES INSIDE THE LIBRARY FOR LEISURE READINGS AND HAVING FUN. I SHOULVE ALSO PREPARED COLLEGE JUST FOR ME AND NO ONE ELSE. I ENJOYED HS. BUT BOY I REGRET THAT SO MUCH.

I'll be honest, I'm only just now finishing my sophomore year, but I really wanted to comment on your first regret. Last year in freshman year, I was so oriented around planning and doing what I could now for my future in college and engineering. And honestly while I really am glad and proud of what I accomplished last year, I really regretted the things I didn't do. I found the things that I was happiest about from last year where the few things I let myself do, like robotics. This year, while I still prioritized school and got good grades and took hard classes such as early college stuff, I put a priority on my friendships and extracurricular activities as well, and I know that these are the moments I'm going to remember. While I'm still happy with where I am in terms of academic preparedness, I'm also really happy with the prioritizing of my friends and the realization that we're not going to be in high school forever.

A few things I wanna address: 1. I think I’m one of your earlier vids you wore a jacket with a choir logo on it. I used to go there too! I think it’s called crystal children’s choir, (although ofc I may have seen the logo wrong...) 2. Congrats on getting into UCLA! 3. Do you have any tips for middle schoolers who are already panicking about supplemental essays and how we’re supposed to handle our future? Love ur vids!
@iamplant45694 жыл бұрын
I panicked in middle school, dont, you have so much time and you're going to change so much throughout highscool so just focus on making the best of it. Live life as if your 70 yrs old, what your future self would remember and cherish (friendships and experience over an extra 3 points on a spanish test) :)
