For me this is a song of what once was. It’s a bitter sweet reminder of when my ex and I were just beginning our decades long marriage. So much hope, so much potential. It makes me smile but it’s also painful.
@philsdon89322 жыл бұрын
That song set so many of us up. We thought that through love and spiritual enlightenment we could achieve the same thing, but then most lived in the city and life was complicated. We all had to wake up one morning and realize married life was difficult and at times troubling and that along with love were things we couldn't stand about each other.

The chorus is one of those snatches of music that can stay with you for years and pop up now and then when circumstances trigger it. I have heard a number of versions but I prefer the simplicity of this arrangement. I like the way they add instruments as they go along. It matches the mood of the song so well.

He had to choose between producing Kenny Logins or Dan Fogelberg. Said he chose Logins because he was less polished and technically precise than Fogelberg, plus, Kenny had personality... I've been to one of Jim's song writing camps and he literally knows everybody in the music business and his memory for detail is uncanny.
@joelliebler56902 жыл бұрын
@@Timoeltejano I am a big fan of both Dan and Jenny though I prefer Dan’s music more because he was able to do so much on his on and was more creative with his range of music. I saw or heard that interview with Jim and felt that Kenny needed more assistance in production plus Dan started out with a more country pop sound than Kenny which Jim had already done and was leaning away from !
@Timoeltejano2 жыл бұрын
@@joelliebler5690 cool. Yes I was trying to keep it short but I really like how you boiled it down. And I agree that Dan was the much better musician, singer, artist. I saw that interview with him by John Beaudin. And I attended one of his song writing workshops where he told almost the same story word for word like 10 years ago. And then he deconstructed Angry Eyes. If you're a Jim Messina fan check out the tribute to Rusty Young (of Poco and one Buffalo Springfield album) it was hosted at a radio station with a bunch of musicians and Jim M basically took over the whole thing, but because he really does know everybody in the music biz. I would warn against taking his workshops. Cost me nearly $5,000 for the day to mostly hear him tell stories.

Hi Harri, this was written as a gift to his brother, Danny. As he tells it, he needed to give him a gift to celebrate the birth of his (Danny's) son, but didn't have any money, so he wrote him this song instead. I think it was just about the best gift anyone could've given him.

Such a beautiful song - written by Kenny while he was still in high school. He said he couldn't afford a gift for his brother for the baby so he wrote this. And no, it would not work as a duet with a woman. It's a beautiful, simple song and it is not a man/woman love song, it is a love song to his brother. Everything is not better done differently.

No offense taken and in fact I thank you for bringing a new perspective. By the way I was 'corrected' by my wife this very day for using the word 'yummy'. I said you never heard of the 'yummy'? She said, "Yes, from toddlers." I informed her it was only cool with the little toddlers because they got it from me, a trend-setter(?).
