I think there is a significant overlap between the Democratic and the Republican Party, so that there are many Republicans who would be classified as more to the left than many Democrats. However, you're correct in that the mainstream Republicans are so far right that they aren't even on the political map in for example Sweden, where I live. I would think that you could fit all political parties currently in Parliament within the Democratic Party. Maybe not the newest addition, the Sweden Democrats, incidentally the only party in Parliament that openly supported Trump over Biden.

That seems to be the republican response to everything. Mass shootings? "Nothing we can do" (although every other country has managed to do something about mass shootings). COVID-19? "Nothing we can do" (except listen to doctors and other experts and follow their suggestions and encourage your supporters to do the same and the Republican party certainly can't do THAT). Police brutality and the killing of innocent black Americans by police "officers"? "Nothing we can do" (because they don't WANT to do anything). "Help the economy"? "There's nothing we can do" (except cut taxes on the rich and ensure the biggest business conglomerates continue to pay NO taxes so they continue to tank our economy). "Stop climate change"? "That's fake news, so we don't NEED to do anything about that".
