RE: music theory. Even if you don’t know you’re using it, you’re still using it. Kind of like when people (such as myself) use/misuse words they don’t really understand, but it sounds right to them. The book didn’t stop getting written when all the classic composers died, and that seems to be a common misconception. Music theory is not a play by play of how to compose like Beethoven. It’s centuries of experience poured into an ever evolving road map. A road map that includes every alternate route you could possibly imagine.

Kemper is good. I owned one and was very happy with it. The thing is, the Kemper is a stand alone unit and can be easily used live. VSTs can be used live, too, but you will need at least some kind of laptop/pc. VSTs sound very good nowadays, but it depends on your usecase if you want one or the other.
@porcubot4 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Kempers, AxeFX, the line 6 helix stuff... it all has value outside of the studio. I think Kemper gets shit on like this because it's often marketed as a studio solution, but it doesn't really stand up to VSTs and amp sims cost/value in studio situations anymore. Its true value is in a live situation, where I'd be more comfortable with that kind of closed ecosystem instead of a laptop with ableton and some amp sim VSTs.
@Stefan-4 жыл бұрын
@@porcubot A lot has happened since the Kemper amp was introduced 9 years ago, while its still good at copying amps at a certain setting other manufacturers has also gotten very close to reproducing the real deal and some have made attempts to add profiling types of function to their units. The "Audio blur" thing. It isn't the job of the musician to search for recording tutorials or learn audio engineering. Their job is to play their instruments. Your job is to record and engineer. While you should not overestimate it, it still has it's place as a tool in certain environments.

Here's a story for you Glenn, In my second or third year studying music production at university, another student (a moron) asked me: "So what kind of music do you produce?" I responded honestly and said "I'll try my hand at producing pretty much anything but electronic music made in computers isn't really my thing." The moron then replied with "So you play like guitar/ keys in the studio and get someone else to do your drums and shit"? I said "No, I record the whole band/artist in the studio myself." "Oh so you make your own drum samples in the studio and use them for your track?" "No, I record all the musicians playing in the studio, as live as possible." Then came the moment I knew I was never going to speak to this moron ever again when he responded with: "Nah dude, don't do that you'll get like bleed and phasing, and you'll need to know like basic theory shit to be able to understand the musicians. Just use Logic Pro, some synth presets and a bunch of drum samples."

Concerning the jazz "playing outside the key" guy The trick is you have to RESOLVE WELL. If you're getting complaints that it sounds out of key and not blending with the tune, You. Are. Wrong. You also have to match the style of the song. As musicians, we service the song, not just ourselves. If you're playing some prog or something, then yeah try learning how to actually use alternate scales over the chords, or even going as far as using anti-pentatonics. But if it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. Same with the opposite side for the jazz guys going in to record with new groups. If your answer is technically correct, or is where the music is technically supposed to go, then good for you, bring it up maybe once if you must but drop it if it doesn't fit with the song. if you keep insisting then enjoy never being called back to gig there. The key to remember: The song is more important than the gimmick. It always sounds cooler to the general audience to sound good rather than sound 'unique'. Go play outside the key for your jazz performance juries, and then go play your bread and butter gigs while sounding good.

What’s anti pentatonic
@LowReedExpert14 жыл бұрын
@@connertaggart8403 Not an 'official' name, but I learned the concept from Adam Neely Anti- pentatonics are the scales that exist between the typical seven note scale. So the AP of C major would have Db Eb Gb Ab Bb, If we transpose that to C, for simplicity, the Major scale's AP is C D F G A, kinda like a G7sus chord as a scale if you change the mode. There are also, technically, anti-septatonic scales where you can get a scale out of a pentatonic scale. Say, Major Pentatonic gives you C D E G A, the missing notes are Db Eb F Gb Ab Bb and Cb, transposed to C D E F G A Bb, so the scale that has no common tones within C major pentatonic is Db Mixolydian. I'm almost certain this is confusingly written, and trust me when I say there isn't much point to finding all these scales. I've found literally hundreds of scale patterns but still stick to probably less than 30 -- including outlier situations, so don't worry too much about these. This was just the literal most extreme example of playing outside the key that you can get to prove a point

Oh we had "cancel culture" back in the 80s. It was called the PMRC, only people recognized it for what it was back then instead of being stupid and participating. Socially acceptable fascism is still fascism even when you try to wrap it in a cause.

Cancel Culture is everywhere and made it's way into every Fandom/Form of Media. There's even a "Cancel Culture" for Cancel Cultuer.

Thanks for the visual size perspective on the KALI LP6. I've been wanting to try them since they came out, especially since the rep has not faded. Either they are bigger than I thought or you're shrinking. Have a great weekend man!

Actually Glen, I'm just starting to dip my beak in home recording, mostly due to Covid making everything boring. I'm literally a "Just figured out how to use an audio interface with Amplitube where do I go from here?" noob. I'd love to see some absolute basics of home recording videos. I'm also appreciative of non bullshitty people, which you seem to be. TEACH ME SENPAI!!!

That second one cracked me up. And could I have some audio wobble on my guitars? And maybe some audio air? You know, the one that goes whoooowooooowoooo? That's the technicaly term, right?
