Omg, I’m dying over here. This is basically my entire musical theater career in a single song. 😂

Great fun to see the improved version ten years later with three of the four original singers - and at high-resolution video! Awesome orchestration too.

I saw Stuart Matthew Price as Riff Raff some years ago in Munich and that performance was so mind-hunting that I kept listening to more of his work. Will keep showing this video to friends. I don’t get the „dreamed in Dance“ reference though. If someone would like to spare three minutes of his time to explain that, I’d be grateful. 🙏
@rocric25722 жыл бұрын
Lol, subtitles say „trained and dance“. still don’t get it…

"trained in dance"- his CV says he's trained in dance rather than musical theatre so he gets put in ensembles rather than getting lead singing roles.
@StuartMatthewPriceOfficial4 күн бұрын
@@adamhodges8022 This is right. I was trying to find different fun ways for the guys to sing high. I just do sing high...Mikey comes across as someone who maybe can't sing high, but rocks out and does...Ben pretends to sing female songs to make him come across as a high singer...and then there's Richie who doesn't get to sing high because everyone assumes he can't as he "trained in dance" and not a singer. However, he too can sing. All just a bit of fun. I wrote this song on a National Express coach going home! Glad you all enjoy it - SMP x

Such a joyful musical song so well written, arranged and so well performed ! You guys are absolutely fantastic ! It is making my day :-) I was wondering whether you could release the words of your song Stuart Matthew as I cannot grasp every single word when the orchestra comes in being a non-native English speaker. Thanks in advance for your answer : a tenor who wants to have a go at it !
@eneedham7892 жыл бұрын
I’m a native speaker but couldn’t catch all of it. There are a couple of bits missing and there might be some errors but I did my best! He has the sheet music on sale for £5 if you Google it. Transcription: Well, shall we do this? There’s been Sullivan, and Hammerstein, Cole Porter, and Kurt Vile, But none of those could write the notes that proved my voice had style, Sopranos get the top end, altos are the pillar, Basses offer resonance, whilst me, I’m just the filler Occasionally a song would come that pushed me to a G (Um, that’s an A) (Sorry, G) (That’s better) (Don’t be so pedantic), But nothing’s that impressive unless you hit top C So this is just a little song to make you all aware The only way to make it is to give your voice some flair! Bernstein had the right idea when writing West Side’s Tony, Take a name and sing it thirty times to matrimony, Monotonous and lyrical, and it has a top B flat, The audience applaud me and that’s where it’s at! So stand aside and let me sing this pensive melody, I’ll make it more impressive by changing the key, ‘Cause if you want a tenor with a stupid range, well, No-one sings higher than me! People take one look at me and think, “that guy’s a bass,” But when I sing my higher notes, my balls leap out of place, [can’t figure out the start of this sentence] I’m a superstar with passion and pace, When I [something] Queen I will be melting your face! Classical is much too low and not where shows are heading, Belting songs with rocky riffs is what I do instead, In case you want a tenor for a rock-like melody, Then no-one sings higher than me! Let me sing, I’ll give you what’s needed, Even though my vocal cords are practically beated! The only way to get to the top in this cut throat industry Is to prove that you can sing top G (C, D, G!), alright! I’m the perfect auditioning, no-one sings higher than me! (Pretty high, man. Pretty high. Thank you.) Some people try to find a song that’s written far too high, But I have found a little trick that’s easy to apply, Find a song that’s written for a girl, not a guy, Casting panels laugh at me, I never know why So challenge me to Phantom and Christine’s top E, From Cats to Chess to Greece, I guess there’s no-one I can’t be! I may not be a woman, which is obvious to see, But no-one sings higher than me! Directors look at my CV and won’t give me a chance, They think I can’t sing reading roles because I trained in dance But there’s a voice inside me that is ready to soar, My Rend de Bras and pirouettes are now just a bore (Did he just say wonderbra?) (No, Ben, it’s Rend de Bras, it’s like a ballet term, mate) (Haha, “bra”) (Oh, come on) I really need a job, for once a singing job, I’m sick of dancing at the back edge of the stage I want to break free Maria, singing that refrain will never be a strain on me, Maria God why don’t they get it? Come on and get it! How many tenors do they need? At the ballet 5,6,7,8 All we really want in life is one show we can be in, Reality tv is now the only way of winning (ugh) Forget the shows and hire us, we all sing in key (ish) No-one sings higher, no-one sings higher, no-one sings higher, no-one sings higher than me (No-one sings higher than me) (Ben!)

We did indeed! Pre-recorded before we shot the video though (even though we sang along to ourselves rather than just lip synced). However I can 100% guarantee that we sang every note.
