Way back in the day, when I was making music videos with my oppo, the late, great Steven Wells (as GobTV), we used to tell everybody that this was one of the greatest music videos ever made. I'd stand by that now. Pure performance. attitude. We loved the fact that it was a run through, with newspaper on the freshly painted floor. We made some great videos for Elastica contemporaries (Sleeper, Echobelly, Skunk Anansie, The Manics etc) but I'd have given my right arm to have shot this and thought "That'll do".

I'm not too sure about the newspapers but I do believe that this video is some sort of tribute to either the buzzcocks(what do I get) or the damned(smash it up). Both of those music videos are similar to this one. I suppose that there's a connection here after all....

Some of their songs were generally rip offs of the late 70's new wave/punk bands too but if you are going to blatantly wear your influences on your sleeves then choose a classic era of bands like these did and make it your own. Always remember Menswear copying Elastica who copied Wire, plagiarism at it's best!
