I was in grade 6 when WrestleMania 6 came to Toronto. I was watching wwf on Saturday morning like I did every Saturday morning when either Mean Gene or Jack Tunney announced that warrior and Hogan will be facing off and that it will be at the skydome in Toronto. 20 minutes from my house. I pretty much shit, pissed,and puked at the same time as I ran down the steps yelling at the top of my lungs for my mother to hear that WrestleMania 6 is coming to Toronto. I fell down the steps, and broke my arm..lol I've been to the C.N.E when Hogan vs Ordorff, basically to all the late 80s, and all of 90s house shows at Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens. WrestleMania 6 = Dream come true.. especially at that age. I was a HUGE Hulkamaniac, but I started becoming a warrior fan too..at that era, you never ever saw face vs face.. champion vs champion ...this was fucking huge..I was lucky enough to go..and I'll end my story here ..I can go on for ever about this card. From Andre the giant turning face, demolition winning the titles, Brutus the fucking barber beating Mr.Perfect..seeing Hulk Hogan lose to Warrior was something that can't be put into words. Hogan never ever lost. He was my hero. But, the Ultimate Warrior was awesome too . I got so emotional and started to cry lol I was sad because Hogan lost..it was like now what? But at the same time, if anyone was to beat Hogan, at least it wasnt a " bad guy " so, it was ok the Ultimate Warrior beat him because he was a "good guy " and beat him fare and square and it kinda just made sense...what a night

I do remember watching an old WCW/NWA tape (Great American bash 1989) where of all people, Jim Ross was on commentary and he was talking about Sting (who was wrestling The Great Muta for their TV title) being in a former tag team and having done considerably better than his former partner since then. At that time (July 23, 1989), Sting's former partner was chasing Rick Rude for the WWF Intercontinental Championship having lost it to him at Wrestlemania V three months earlier and would win the title back just 5 weeks later at SummerSlam. He would also win the WWF World title 3 months before Sting won the NWA World title.

This was watched by A LOT more people than WrestleMania V thanks to pizza places recognizing the Warrior Hulk main event as the draw it was, and giving the event away for free to HORDES of people. You didn't even have to buy anything. Just come on in and watch the event for free. It was a big deal back then. No pizza places around me carried WrestleMania V or SummerSlam 89'. Believe me I tried them all. Almost all of the ones around me had WrestleMania VI packed in completely. So Warrior/Hulk WAS the bigger draw. Much BIGGER. They were like wall-to-wall packed with people into the entire event. I was there. Too bad you guys on the inside somehow missed that?

Toronto is the unheralded Mecca of 80s WWF. It’s not sexy to say because it’s a Canadian city, where most Americans, who desperately need to cling on to an identity , refused to purchase PPVs that weren’t Amurican but there’s no way Boston or New York could house 60,000 for Hogan Orndorff and return 9 days later and put 14,000 people in a Maple Leaf Gardens house show. And let’s not forget that Wrestlemania 3 was staged in Detroit because it was a border city when you didn’t need a passport to drive over the border. The icing on the cake was how loyal Toronto was at Wrestlemania 18 booing the The Rock out of the building and it could have been a stone Cold or Jesus Christ and it would have played out the same.
@josephboza74486 жыл бұрын
Well sounds like a lot of boys were jealous of Warriors success. Hulk Hogan had dominated the 80s and wanted to take a break. A lot of guys in the locker room wanted the success that Ultimate Warrior had in the year 1990. At the time not many people had pay per view and plus it was on at 4PM in the afternoon which was pretty early. Ultimate Warrior went 9 months as WWE Champion. The front office loved Hulk as the man and once he took off for his childs birth (assuming Brooke), sounds like certain guys a la Ted Dibiase thought everything went to hell. Plus it didnt help that Ultimate Warrior went into mania as the WWF Interconential Champion. He needed to give up his belt for the story to make sense. I dont think Hogan would job twice to the Warrior hence no rematch in WWF. its always been a feeling that the only reason Ultimate Warrior went to WCW was to soothe Hogans damn ego. If you believe his POV, he didnt want to job to Warrior.
@josephboza74486 жыл бұрын
my bad. Thanks for clarifying that. For some stupid reason thought Brooke was older.

I'm so fucking sick of Warrior fanboys. Warrior sucked in the ring, was an asshole in real life, had no respect for wrestling and his gimmick had a short shelf-life. In a way it was lucky (for him) he was such a jerk and kept walking out of obligations b/c if he had tried to maintain that gimmick for a long period of time it would've gone completely stale and he wouldn't have been able to con various promotions into giving him lots of cash.
@HereIsWisdom13185 жыл бұрын

@@MusicvidsetcThat's funny because I am sick of coming across triple chinned pudgy fuck internet marks trying to shit on Warrior. 1: According to over two dozen people who worked with Warrior he wasn't an asshole. 2: He was a massive draw, second biggest in history so clearly his skills and gimmick were top notch. 3: "Short shelf life." Funny considering he returned in 1996 and drew the biggest numbers out of both promotions and in 1998 his return outdrew both promotions. That's called staying power. 4: He never backed out of a single obligation. He did however stand up for himself against McMahon and McMahon's bullshit. Cry about it.

Robert Goulet is a crooner--a song stylist, interpreting song hits from his generation's youth. When he (like Judy Garland) strayed into more modern Top 40 he tanked so bad they started to call him "Sherman". Sherman . . . It's called a book, people. Read one.

Short memories you guys have. "Octagon" (1980) was a top Martial Arts action movie. As always, you borrowed something "hot" from pop culture to make your product seem more "hip" and relevant. That's where the Octagon comes from. And you are quite welcome . . .now . . . where's my Wendy's with double meat, double cheese, double onions . . .

"Actually guys" guy has arrived! And just like actually guy does, he had to prove he knew more than everyone else about the SINGLE dumbest point of the entire video.

The dumbest part of every video is its comments section. "Oh-you didn't KNOW that?" And thanks for your contribution to the dumbest. Can you hear the chant from the crowd, man? "One of us! One of us!"
You realise the thumbnail reads "So Mething To Wres" #PoorlyChosenLogo #METHIN

And hey, I'm sure it's not as dramatic as people will make this out to be (your comment) but you're pretty much right on the money about that in retrospect. Especially given the exit of Andre's tenure and Hulk going out with the loss which was unheard of at the time. And 1990 was infact a year of changes to be sure.

Too much has been said, and too little of it about the real issues, of steroid abuse. Check with your old friends, Bruce. How many have enlarged hearts? Constant working out without recovery time generates a demand for blood that a normal heart cannot take without growing. The inevitable result is edema and congestive pulmonary/cardio failure. Sure, there are times and places for steroids . . . reduce inflammation, aid in recovery as part of a comprehensive healing strategy under doctor's supervision. Body building? No. Unless you have a patient with atrophy, there is no reason for steroids other than to reduce inflammation. And what does EVERY competent doctor warn his patients? "Stop repeating that same injury. Take a break from whatever activity is causing the damage." Like Wrestling? Yup. Like Wrestling. Epitaph: "Here lies a guy whose work was more important than following his doctor's advice". I see a lot of those post scrips at Wrestlers' graves. That's the REAL cost of steroid abuse. Early death by Heart Attack/Stroke, Congestive Cardio/Pulmonary failure. And this is separate from the painkillers, cocaine (can't have one without the other when you have to think fast), Methamphetamine (Amphetamine pills are meth, too, in your system), booze (nothin' like operating heavy equipment while drunk--right? Ameye rite?), EVERY WORKING DAY OF YOUR ADULT LIFE takes a horrible toll, no matter how much makeup they put on before you go on stage. So wrestlers die in their forties, fifties, and sixties, like crazy, instead of their sixties, seventies, and eighties, like other athletes. And they don't die easy. It's years of crippling functional decline due to worn and destroyed cartilage, enlarged heart, kidney and liver troubles (drugs are bad, m'kay?), and the obligatory boozing it up every night or your adult life. Face it, boys. You'll never equal the REAL partyers. You don't go at it sensibly. 1st: you NEVER start drinking early. That only impairs your judgement, which you'll need later for knowing when to crash. You start with a day long caffeine buzz . . .coffee, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, or other awful health threat of sugar and spice. Once you're wired, seriously wired, mind you, THEN you can take a Xanax . . . and smoke a few blunts. Once your buzz is settled in, you smoke some hash, take a hit of acid, and THEN start drinking. Once you start drinking, however, you lose the fun, because you should not snort lines AND drink booze . . . cause, if you try it, the coke keeps you awake long enough to give yourself alcohol poisoning. Bad stuff. You want the booze to tell you when it's time to sleep. And that's when the ACID comes in handy. See, you won't FEEL like drinking after a certain point, if you're tripping. But you CAN still enjoy Hash . . . see where I'm going? The wrestlers just don't go about partying like pros. They're more like "Another bottle of Nyquil, please!" Ugh. nasty shit.
