On this episode: Twenty years ago the WWF was transitioning as the wrestling business was changing. Bret Hart was now a heel in America but still a Canadian hero out to stop the rise of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. This PPV was the Hart Foundation's "homecoming" in front of one of the rowdiest crowds of all time. This IYH won "Major Show of the Year" in 1997 and our coverage is longer than the actual show! I met Bret in 2007, and even though he was only there for three hours (the length of SummerSlam 07) and he sat there signing and taking pics the entire time. He took one break to watch Austin showing up on the PPV and went back to signing. Dude was a class act, and was signing when we left.

Off topic: its a damn shame heel canadian hero Bret and the american Olympic gold medalist kurt angle never met in a ring. I wouldve loved to have seen them have an iron man submission match

The sad thing about watching this PPV in 2022 is having hindsight, and knowing just a month later will start so many string of bad luck events for almost everyone involved with the main event, and seeing how many people from this show alone is now gone, it's kinda hard to watch.

100% agree with bruce about the "blown" reversed tombstone with Vader and Taker. When i watched it it made it look more real. those two guys shouldn't hit every move perfect, so when they do hit a move later you're more into it because they failed first attempt

Bruce has this wrong - the international audience would have seen the Harts as heroes as that was how they were presented to the fans at the time. They were heels in the US, faces everywhere else.

I don't remember Bret ever trying to turn heel on Canada, or anywhere else outside the US, in 1997. Maybe Vince wanted him to, but he didn't. His very first promo after WM13, he apologized to his fans in Canada, Europe etc. and then followed up with some nasty comment towards the US fans.

This was my favorite In your house of all time. Only 2nd to this would be Buried Alive Undertaker vs Mankind. This was a VERY happy accident that Bruce walked into. From start to the end, this show was good. I thought at the end of the 10 man tag all hell would break loose to the point where World War 3 would break out. The hatred between The Hart family and TEAM USA was so damn real that it blurred the lines of reality and tv. Canada was backwards during the attitude era that is for damn sure.
@bradvestby
@bradvestby Жыл бұрын
This technically wasn't the attitude Era yet.. the first use of the new Attitude branding was done at the Survivor Series a few months after this during a video promo late in the show.. the ppv AND Coliseum Video versions of this show include this promo.. Then Vince did the famous speach about two weeks later..
