Back in 1983, Hulk Hogan was Plan C. Plan B was for a Von Erich, probably Kerry, to become WWF World Champion instead of Backlund. (Plan A in late '82 was for Superstar Graham to get his revenge and later turn babyface like some say he should have in '78, but that was scuppered when he turned up as Bald Karate Man.)

There is a class of guys for whom history has been rewritten by rivals leaking to Meltzer to denigrate them, jealous colleagues running them down in books and interviews, and just a ton of bullshit...Kerry is near the top of that list. His life and career was tragic, but he was one of the biggest stars of the 80's boom and if not for all the tragedy and personal shortcomings, he would have been even bigger...and no, he was not a perpetual fuck up in the ring, and no, David was not the real star of the family

@@WillReacts The Revenge Of Superstar Graham would have been alright until his hip started to give way in 1986. If it wasn't for that, I reckon he could have done Randy Savage's spot in 1988-1989. Of course if they had kept him as champion and turned him face in 1978, then by the time 1986 and the soggy hip rolled round, he would have been ripe to step down anyway.

This was the first wrestling PPV I saw. Of course I was over the moon for Hulk Hogan, but I also became a big Bret Hart fan watching this. I loved Piper on commentary and I recall arguing with friends whether or not Marty Jannetty should have won. Too bad Power and Glory had their legs cut off. They were an awesome act too - and I didn't know Paul Roma used to be a jobber. This show will always have a very special place in my heart.

One of my favorite PPVs from my childhood for these reasons: 1) Hogan returned after the Earthquake attack. I got so sucked into that angle, it was crazy. 2) Harts Vs. Demolition = The match that made me fall in love with tag team wrestling as an artform 3) The angle with Sapphire = Say what you will, but as a kid, I dug it and when DiBiase revealed what he did, I just grew to love to hate him even more, lol.

A couple of things- 1. Piper never even tried to put himself over. At the beginning of Summerslam the whole crowd was chanting for Roddy and he didn't have to do a thing to get that response. 2. Piper was not a baby face announcer at this event. He did cheer the babyfaces but at times put the heels like Power and Glory over. He pointed out how stupid it was for Hogan to try to slam Earthquake. He was more if a tweener which was interesting.

Slaughter was shown re-debuting on WWF TV totally trashing Nikolia...Me and my friends were all wondering how PWI was gonna walk their fake story back...Sure enough, PWI subsequently did an "interview" with The Sarge where he laughs at PWI and said he lied to PWI and was merely testing everyone to see how gullible the public had become before returning to the WWF...Hilarious, Only in wrestling LOL

Those whelps on Earthquake’s back from Boss Man hitting him with a stepladder three times…OUCH!!! Did they not gimmick the ladder or did Boss Man not grab the right “tool” for the job? I wonder if that caused some hard feelings.

Every era had a peak. Austin’s bad idea wanting to turn heel ended the attitude era at Mania 17. I think the golden era ended when Hulk was beat cleanly by warrior. There really wasn’t a big match left after that and it showed during Warrior’s reign. Hogan already cleared out the whole heel factory.
@TheSaxon.
@TheSaxon. 4 жыл бұрын
Warrior had the belt taken off him because of the Gulf War, otherwise he'd have had it until Mania or beyond. There's too much bullshit about Warrior not being able to carry the ball. Just because business is not at a historical peak, doesn't mean you've failed. Vince just wanted to exploit the war. Warrior and Savage had the last laugh at 7 though.
@thechosenones4375
@thechosenones4375 4 жыл бұрын
What we learn here is that it wasn't that Warrior wasn't working - Bruce clearly states that the idea was for Hogan to main event against a heel at WM7 from the beginning. So they never pushed Warrior. Logically, it should've been Warrior/Taker or Warrior/Savage at WM7.
@wooobenny
@wooobenny 7 ай бұрын
WM7 is a bit early for taker even though he did get to the top very fast. I know it was unheard of to do the multiway matches at the time (and warrior/savage on its own did work so it could have still existed seperately) but imagine their massive coliseum show for WM7 working because you get either -- champion warrior v hogan v savage v earthquake v rude v (I guess you could still do slaughter and have even other bad guys like rude be against his antics, slaughter vs the world type thing, or i guess this could be taker or even iron sheik maybe, idk someone to make it a 6 way but obv this last person isn't a main player) or savage/warrior stays separate and heel champ rude (won it exactly how slaughter did at rumble) v hogan v quake (and probably vs a 4th but even a 3 way does the huge odds against hogan thing again that they always liked). I feel like those create a lot more spectacle and tie many existing issues together more than making a military conflict into a wrestling angle with a main player being a guy we hadnt hardly seen in 7+ years.

I love this PPV but as a kid it was the first time I realized wrestling might not be as real as I thought. I still refer to it as the moment Hulk Hogen ruined my childhood.

Warrior got old feuds (Savage, Rude) unlike Hogan who always got the fresh awesome heel. Don't get me wrong Savage and Rude are one of the best but Warrior already had his Feuds with those guys so his Championship run wasn't given the full opportunity it should have had in my opinion!!!

Why does Conrad keep asking about Hogan and Rude? Several previous times on this show it's been stated that Hogan didn't like or trust Rude and wouldn't work with him. The reason? Rude wouldn't kiss his ass and stood up to him.

My theory is probably after that one match they had against each other in the Boston Garden in early 1988, where Rude -to me - kinda stiff Hogan with a shot to the head with the wooden chair, Hogan said, “Nah, I’m good.”

I was a huge fan in the early nineties and lost interest after attitude era ended. Women's wrestling got me back into the WWE. Smackdown has 3 amazing female wrestlers in Bayley, Sascha Banks, and Alexa Bliss. What do you think of building a stable (the four horsewomen, needs a better name and can't see Charlotte Flair as ringleader.) consisting of these 3 and Mandy Rose with Alexa bringing in Bray Wyatt and Mandy bringing in Otis to develop a storyline that causes Otis to cash in his money in the bank against Bray.
