“Sometimes thoughts are just thoughts” Accurate. I am a therapist and I teach this. I applaud you for speaking your truth and being vulnerable.
@lkofie66702 жыл бұрын
INDEED...I also studied counseling though I don't practice it. I've learned so much during my internship and realized that a thought doesn't have to equate to an action which this concept tends to freak people out or make them more anxious or afraid. Yet, the thoughts are a mere reflection of the illness...it's only a thought and it was great to see the relief on clients' face as they learn how to cope with these thoughts and/or know when to reach out to their support team.
@lovepilie2 жыл бұрын
I agree so much. Even my therapist didn't know that... I thought I was a monster for a long time, until I realized these thoughts... were just thoughts. Did not represent me, nor my values...JUST thoughts, that apparently had a road going through my brain !

I’ve felt conflicted by the cliché “thoughts become things” especially dealing with ruminating and obsessive thoughts. I love Crystal’s perspective that “thoughts are just thoughts” and their closet too 😍😍

Re: Negro League patches, Honoring ancestors with clothes. I like that and I agree fashion is skill, a talent, a love and a reason to come outside and be alive. I ike this "closets" series . The dialogue is so poetic 🥰

I have to say I have been coming back for years and years watching your closet series, and I am so so glad they have come back. Letting us visit people's nests - especially folx where safety wasn't always easy or a guarantee - is so radical and powerful. How you've elaborated on this series is beautiful. Thank you for this. xx

I love Crystal and her style so much, but what really gravitate me to her is her experience with mental health. I am 21 and queer and black and I have been struggling with my mental health, and I see so much of myself in her. She's an inspiration to me.

This conversation was sage. I saw and heard myself in Crystal’s story. Transparency really does heal.

I get so much from the episodes when you go to people's closets. Style really is medicine. And individuality is inspiration.

Me too, I couldn't agree with you more! Something about seeing how others live, and their closets and style of clothing and home decor shows such individuality!

"What holds me up is knowing there is someone who sees themselves in me. And if you see something in that, take it". This episode was so moving to me! I love this woman. And I will take it. There is so much beauty, and depth, power and kindness in seeing someone claim the whole of themselves and then offer it back to the world in the form of color and expression and creativity. Thanks so much for this!

This is the first time I’ve heard a person like me speak about their dark thoughts. The uncontrolled nature of it and seeing them as thoughts. For what it’s worth, your experience speaks to me. Thank you Crystal.

As someone who has struggled with OCD in the past, it feels SO GOOD to watch this video. People with OCD are presented very poorly in pop culture and I felt ashamed in the past because in my mind, having obsessive thoughts was what made me unrelatable, undesirable, and uncool. But here is Crystal, proving the exact opposite. It must have been so hard for her to share her darkest thoughts and I want to thank her for being so courageous and making me (and others) feel less alone.

Sometimes, the 1st step to show up truly authentic, is how you present yourself. Wearing the colors, shaving your head, wearing the tight/baggy clothes. Sometimes things aren't "just things".

I loved this segment and listening to such a beautiful and aware Queen. This Queen's closet is an amazing museum. Articles of clothing have meaning. personal, cultural. Clothing can transform us, comfort us, underline who we know ourselves to be. Clothing is powerful.

I have complex-ptsd, major depression, anxiety and ocd. I have loved fashion since I was a little girl. I'm 45 years old and I love fashion. For me fashion is personal and a unique way to express my inner creative side. I will always love fashion. My own personal style and my own choice of what I want to wear that day. You're a genuine beautiful strong woman and an inspiration for others. May God bless you in abundance.

I'm far away in Scandinavia, and just want to say although I've no idea who Crystal is from before, she's the most BEAUTIFUL and inspiring human being I've seen in interview for a very long time! What a closet of wonder she has, of deep meaning, history and artfulness. Like a physical catalog of her ideas, emotions, energy, means of bold and heartfelt messages to herself and to anyone else who's willing to take it in. Crystal will truly be a wonderful mother one day. Thank you for sharing this with the world! ♥️
