Problem with this math: something can be way overpriced, understate the grams but still have deceptive packaging, and it looks like it has this huge increase in "money saved". A better version would be taking the total price divided by the usable grams, to get the price per gram to compare. This truly shows how losing product (or gaining) can affect the price by weight, without having the overpriced items just look better because they cost more per gram to begin with.
@DarlingsOrgans23 күн бұрын

I feel the felt-tip eyeliner was done very wrong. The force put upon the tip in testing was WAY more than we use when applying the product to our eyes. The destruction of the tip, and subsequent inability to get any more of the product out, is not a 1:1 comparison to the actual use of the product. I'm not saying there's no waste...waste is automatic with all make-up products...but this test was not a fair one, in my opinion.
@EmpressCirce23 күн бұрын
Super agree, plus she doesn't seem to know you're supposed to pull the tip out with tweezers and turn it around when it gets dry.
@gooses7822 күн бұрын

@agata278724 күн бұрын
I know this is kinda a fun theory, but the methodology is all wrong. Some of the products have their packaging a certain way because of their consistency, or to avoid it drying out. Product of a different consistency in the same packaging would give a different result, so testing only one is a fun experiment, but introducing the results like they were conclusive is misleading.
@alveolate22 күн бұрын

Plastic stoppers are meant to 1) dispense the right amount of product on the applicator and 2) prevent the product from spilling out accidentally. I disagree that they’re a cheat or trick. You can take them off once you reach the bottom of the bottle to get some last product.
@Sinbertus24 күн бұрын
I wonder, it would be easier if you used this strategy: get two of the same product, empty one, clear it well and make sure no product is left inside, and measure the weight of both, and finally, basic math, full product - empty container = final weight of the product, and then measure again with almost empty containers to see the weight of wasted makeup.
@ralexandra105824 күн бұрын
Can be done with just one of the product, rather than two- to eliminate fill discrepancies across batches. 1-weigh when new to get total package weight. 2-remove all product into a new container…. 3-weigh the container containing what’s not accessible… 4-then thoroughly clean out old container.. 5- finally reweigh packaging to get base package weight. That’s how the beauty breakdown does it.

12:48 for the Maybelline Age Rewind, I just rip the sponge tip off and take product out on the back of my hand and then apply with a brush. Also, by Canadian regulations, the amount written on the packaging has to be the actual amount that a consumer can use up. So the layer that is left over at the bottom of the container is actually a little bit of extra product. Unless they change the packaging between US and Canadian market, I would presume that the same applies to stuff you would get down there. The more you know~

No one thought that something must have been off that this ONE product would make you lost ~90% of the listed weight?? A way higher variance than all others?? A high schooler would know better. However, I do think it's interesting to see how feasible it is to actually be able to use all of it. Totally agree with other comments I've seen about the piece in many liquid lip products; it's just too messy and unusable without it so you have to sacrifice space for the product. Pricing is usually adjusted to compensate for this. Would love to see you do another video and see a wider range of brands. The Subtle Makeup stack would be neat to test.

Great video! I have never been a makeup or style person but I am always intrigued by the science and experiment involved in the theory ( and motivated to better my image to gain confidence) If there would be a part two, to weigh ml, a pycnometer would have been useful as it is used often to get a density for the product used. Weighing the product before use, after use, and after being washed clean and dry would show the weight of the bottle which in turn would tell the true weight of the product before and after use more accurately. The analytical balance is usually closed while weighing because the air and container used ( if not tare off ) adds unnecessary variables to the weight.

Okay so i use the maybelline eraser concealer BUT i always take out the applicator sponge and use my own sponge so there is not as much product waste , but the pruduct left INSIDE the container.... yikes

I dislike this already because instead of weighing the full liquid product, washing it out then measuring the empty container, looking at the difference could've easily gotten a much more accurate result

Yes Amy, please do it by brand. Thank you!

What these companies should look into for containers is the possibility that like CGPgrey says "hexagons are the bestagons."

The little ring is called the stopper in liquid bottles (like lip glosses), those are there to prevent it from leaking everywhere

As an Ulta employee, the About Face foundation is my absolute FAVORITE! It provides a natural, dewy finish that's buildable if u know hoe to layer it with powder. I like this one more than Fenty!

Makeup expires. Too much product in the same container can oxidize or go bad fast for many reasons. Smaller amounts is better.

I love how you are airing out big makeup’s stained laundry. Can we test the stacked makeup? I know that those are normally a round tray that is a combination of powder and puddy. I thought it would be great travel option. So a travel makeup episode. Also I would love to test all the brands to see who’s worth their salt.

I just started watching this and I have to say this is already the type of videos you should be making! We actually want to know stuff like this when it comes to makeup and stuff! Please keep making educational your videos like this!!! But like someone already said, can you go more in depth? Like multiples of each size and shape so there's more collective data to make a thesis!
