Hi Jerome!. Great video. Curios if the 'sacrificial branch' to thicken trunk works on other bonsai as well? Particularly for me a Bougainvillea. I have been doing just that in hopes of achieving a thicker tree.

Hey Jerome, can you tell me the difference between the Brazilian rain tree and the Texas ebony.? I mean, they seem to look exactly the same: thorns, the zig zag of the branches, the color of the bark, the shape of the leaves. How do they differ?

Robert Fowlkes hey Robert, great question! The Texas ebony has much smaller thorns and a lot more of them closer together and darker leaves. The leaves are also smaller and the roots stack up more like a ficus where the raintree has more of a radial root spread.

Great looking tree and great info! I have the same tree! I'm on the Florida west coast (Fort Myers). Is it ok to defoliate now even though there are a few cool nights here and there?

Dirt hi! You can tell by looking at the trunk, they start to flute very early on, most raintrees that you can find are the fluting kind
