Thanks for this amazing video. It is interesting to see how fluid your mix is. I can see the benefit especially pouring larger walls like pouring ICF, where you could pour around windows. The cool part of seeing your blowout is seeing how little was lost. I have seen a few ICF real life disasters with DIY'ers and in those cases it is catastrophic. The idea of insulating a trailer never crossed mind however would be an inexpensive alternative for people living in mobile homes and modulars.

Great job! You could lay the barrel horizontally on rollers and spin it by hand or motorize the rollers so you can pour and/or prep another barrel.
@ruggedist
@ruggedist Жыл бұрын
I did try to rig up a pallet with wheels upside down, but the barrel proved to be difficult to maneuver into place and because it was plastic, the wheels tended to indent the barrel. It was then that I realized rolling it on the ground is much easier.

Hi George. Great video. this is what I love about sharing ideas on KZbin because it gets more people testing and sharing their findings. Your mix is actually a little wetter with more cement than my mix just from looking at the video and your mix pours better because of that. The less portland in the mix the better the R value I have found. I had to pack mine into the molds since the mix did not flow well and thus would not fill every nuke and cranny. But the weight of the mix I imagine also helps to push it into the crevices as it gets up to around 3 or 4 feet. People have been building with wood encased in concrete for generations. The wood does fine as long as moisture does not enter the wall. Styro aircrete will absorb water due to the porous nature of the foam in the mix but will dry out if allowed too. What kind of siding are you planning to install?

Hi Stephen! Glad you watched the video! I have been following your too. I was planing to parge with a layer of landscape fabric. But I also come accross light weight paneling used to build sheds... I may use that. I added a electric wire grid to top of my shredder. I find that the smaller the pieces going in, the easier it is on shredder. Pieces are about 1 " square after three layers of wire, which is mig welding wire for stainless steel.

aha so you kept the cement at the end so can start reacting later to keep a short time action mix! for this kind of material you try to archive the foam is not so important but it purpose is to create lighter product ! we have also termo-concrete that s not have foam and its heavier because we need more cement to coat all the aggregate !

The foam concentration is only 10ml mixed in 1 litre of soft, warm water. Need about 15 litres to make enough foam for 50 gallon barrel

I mean each product has its dilution formula! i think once i found a goof foam product around here i probably should do some density tests to understand how can i use it s capabilities ! the first test will be time test and foam strength test ! those 2 could be done even by a child...what weight measuring tool do you recommend for kg ?

@@MichelleBrebner probably gained a bit of weight but not much... Standing up so well that I have done most of trailer now. I found that by attaching chicken wire to the studs before filling with styroaircrete worked really well and makes a good surface to cover with thin parking. Also adding 10x20 addition...all made with styroaircrete and wire grid...floor, walls and roof! Will be posting videos soon...

So simple. What are the benefits? Is it cheaper than fiberglass? What is th R-value?
@ruggedist
@ruggedist Жыл бұрын
Hi and welcome Jay. There are many benefits... it is very inexpensive to make. About $.30-.40 per gallon. (7.5 gallons make a cubic ft.) It flows in every nook and cranny, thus creating a super seal. It can be done from the outside of building. The r value has not been scientifically tested yet but must be in the neighborhood of 6 per inch. Bear in mind that the value is true and does not change with humidity levels as fiberglass bats do. It also encases rot and stops it from spreading further, as no moisture or air will ever reach it again. It is also 100% fireproof and styrofoam beads will never ignite or melt. ( see my video on fire test) lastly, no insects, creepy crawlers or mice will ever get through.
@treenopie
@treenopie Жыл бұрын
@@ruggedist Thanks for that. The rot encasement/arrest is quite interesting. I can see how it solidifies a rotten structural member, but how does it stop the rot from growing? Is the composition waterproof? Will rotten wood dry out once encased?
@ruggedist
@ruggedist Жыл бұрын
@@treenopie Yes the moisture in the styroaircrete is all gone after 40 days. If no moisture or air can get to the rot, it stops.

George, what is the mix quantities for your product. How much styrofoam cement foam for one barrel.
@ruggedist
@ruggedist Жыл бұрын
I fill barrel with foam and add 30 gallons shredded styrofoam as it fills, mixing gently with a shovel and leaving enough room to add 5 gallons of slurry made up of 1/2 bag of portland, which is added at the end of the mix. If making panels/blocks use full bag of portland.

What affect do you think the styroaircrete will have on the lumber?
@ruggedist
@ruggedist Жыл бұрын
Hi and welcome Gavin! Styroaircrete cures fully in about 40 days. If a parging topcoat is added, or typar and siding, the lumber will outlast us.
@gavin8438
@gavin8438 Жыл бұрын
@@ruggedist The curing process takes the moisture out of it? so if it's sealed and new moisture isn't introduced, there's no reason to treat/oil the lumber?
@ruggedist
@ruggedist Жыл бұрын
@@gavin8438 I would say no because oil will probably keep the styroaircrete from sticking in those areas. I am not sure how other rot products are manufactured but if anything, I would do some testing first.

Hi George! Nicecwork! Just wondering....Are you concerned about the Styroaircrete cracking if you move the trailer?
@ruggedist
@ruggedist Жыл бұрын
Hi and welcome Petter! I have considered that. I think once the entire trailer has all cavities filled, and it has been wrapped with landscape fabric and parged, it will keep the walls from moving. At worst there may be small cracks that will not affect the overall performance.
