After we exchanged PMs yesterday, I liked and subscribed to your OB rear brake change video to facilitate watching more of your stuff. Before I even get into this one, I have to say that the opening to your "Bigger than Brembos" Subaru brake video made me laugh out loud. I mean, seriously, who's going to go past a nice shiny red Milwaukee box, right? I can't think of a better way to spontaneously test a brake system. Great shot!! 🤣 ...and your "let's get serious" costume change ain't bad, either.

Great vid. When I see big brake kits, I just shake my head because why would anyone pay thousands of dollars for a kit that you can likely build yourself? The after market parts industry makes parts for all sorts of vehicles, and vehicles tend to use similar sizes for certain things. Cadillac calipers require wheel spacing.

Loved the video. Planning do doing this to our 2010 3.6 that we tow our camper with. The new camper we upgraded to is 3500lbs. We’re even thinking about a final drive gearing change for the tranny and rear up to a 4.11. Anyway, I heard then comment about aftermarket 17” wheels working but being tight. I’m wondering if anyone got around to trying it with stock 17’s yet now that its been a few months???

I like the idea but all the cutting looks rough. Is it possible to install the Accent entire suspension and brakes?
@bruceyyyyy
@bruceyyyyy 3 жыл бұрын
Possibly. If you don't want to cut you can remove the wheel bearing and remove the brake shield entirely. It's pinched between the knuckle and the hub assemble/wheel bearing so it should come off. I just didn't want to do that here.

Never a critique; some use Loctite on the bracket bolts. I am on the same page as you. The idea I have and need to do is paint pen a label on my calipers in the case I ever sell the car. If it ever goes to the shop out of my hands; can really see it confusing someone having different hardware than stock, but still stock Subi.

So even though you didn't show the original stopping distance test (I see the one that is shorter @ 2:30), this upgrade stops 50 feet sooner?! Holy smokes! 143ft vs 192ft? Or did you not first-hand test the original vs. shorter stopping distance? Because in the video the stopping zone looks uphill which will naturally reduce stopping distance.
@bruceyyyyy
@bruceyyyyy 3 жыл бұрын
I didn't think to do a before stopping distance test. I had the thought of whether the car would stop quicker with larger brakes. I wanted more resistance to fade while towing and believe I definetly got that. I used published says to get the 192 feet stopping distance. The numbers I got from the stopping distance test were so out of range that I didn't want to use them and only put it in the video to have some exciting footage. If 143 feet is accurate that's near super car territory and as such I don't believe it myself. Between that and not having a baseline I don't think it's fair to claim better stopping distance. I would love to see a comparison of a before and after if anyone else does this swap though! Right now this mod is for those that want a larger brake workout spending a lot of money while having readily available parts.
@lifeisgood070
@lifeisgood070 3 жыл бұрын
@@bruceyyyyy Well there are different types of stopping distances. Some include a 0.2 second reaction speed so they will add the distance traveling at the full velocity during 0.2 to the recorded stopping distance. The heavier the rotors the more resistance to brake fade, as the more heat they can absorb. Slotting will help some. Having front air diffusers with some cheap 4" flex hose routed to the brakes will also help. Race cars always route front diffuser air directly to the brakes. 1 more question, how did you super bleed the brakes? I'm always scared of that part. Did you use a power bleeder from the top or just the press the brake pedal method?
@bruceyyyyy
@bruceyyyyy 3 жыл бұрын
Just the good old pump the brakes method. I haven't had good luck with the pumps.

there needs to be a better solution to replace the stack of washers: just cut a piece of metal into a big shim, and drill 2 holes to go around the caliper bolts. Also, you make a good point about heat dissipation with the bigger rotor: the factory set is AWFUL.
