Subaru Forester AWD Slip test note: Best results are achieved by enabling X-mode and letting the traction control system ( TCS ) on. Even if the Subaru Forester slides from the roller or smokes the tires, you can see that it can send traction where needed but with a delay vs the competition! We miss the time we had a rear Limited Slip Differential in those Subaru! We have more for you soon, a real off-road diagonal test on dirt and grass!

The earlier Subarus earn the rep to be able to go where other 4 wheelers couldn't make it up the hill because of front and rear LSD and center locking diff. Subaru is now relying on the electronics to hold the wheel that is spinning to transfer the power to the wheel that has grip. It will work on street driven applications but not so much for 4 wheeling or rock crawling where you want each wheel to be turning when in the air..

system is working yes but it still didn't do it. that's the important part. maybe with a different weight distribution or heavier body like in a Tesla would it have been able to make it with enough traction. a lesson that maybe bags of sand or something like that is still a useful trick. that's the reason these tests are conducted, not to see if all the wheels drive on a car that's AWD. But yes you are right, the system did work on the brand new car.

Looks like tires and suspension unloading may have been issues on the one wheel test as enough power was being sent to the other to make it spin on dry pavement. TFLcar had the same thing happen to an Outback they tested.

Wtf the comments here? Bad?? It sends power to the wheels with grip so well that even that one spins a bit. Funny to read comments already saying is bad because of the CVT... There's nothing wrong on this test...
@takuyatanaka55873 жыл бұрын
I’m fairly certain that’s the meth talking, bud. It’s WELL documented how the cvt limits torque and the awd algorithms do not allocate power effectively. Multiple media sites on KZbin prove this time and time again.
@thelegendbullet9372 жыл бұрын
@@takuyatanaka5587 Yes the CVT sucks, but to be fair in this test it at least, it passed every aspect and was even spinning the only tire with traction on dry pavement... you can't really ask anything more than that. Even 4x4 with lockers would have had the same outcome here with the one tire traction limitation. Now... on an uneven hill in the real world, the CVT will just shut down and you don't move. That is the fatal crutch of Subaru's off road potential :(

I'd love to see how good Subaru AWD is compared to other systems like Honda i-vtm4, Acura sh-awd, BMW x-drive, Toyota TV-AWD, etc.. Pretty much compare with torque vectoring awd systems. It would be useless comparing with non torque vectoring awd systems.
@takuyatanaka55873 жыл бұрын
Others awd systems now surpass Subaru’s ability. Until Subaru ditches the cvt, they will have a subpar awd system. Simply cannot transfer enough torque like the other vehicles you mentioned. Cheers.

Looks like the Forester weasel its way off the rollers by causing one wheel spin faster then the other on the same axle and thereby causing the vehicle to turn slightly and then catch the edge of the rollers and not by transferring enough power to the wheel on pavement. The smoking tire was an unexpected result: somehow there was not enough weight on that wheel.

How can you compare with a Bronco. Even on the years where you think Subaru was the king, Land Rover already had a superior system, but hey... nobody pointed that because was comparing pears and apples, but funny now to see how people expect Subaru to be all of a sudden a Ford Bronco, a 4Runmer TRD..lol. Put on the rollers a standard RAV4 (no adventure, no TRD, because this is a base Forester), put a Nissan Rouge, put the real competitors and tell me how bad is Subaru doing again.
@subazealand91583 жыл бұрын
I think because people used to know what to compare Subaru with, is that people have been expecting an evolution of the system to get it close to what we see on a Bronco, Jeep Trailhawk. I agree CVT is not the best combo, but the AWD system still taking me with same confidence as it did in the past to places where the real competitors won't give same confidence. If you really want to do hardcore Off Road lucky you have more options now than years ago. Good luck with Ford's reliability by the way.
