A bit of information if anyone is interested in doing this. 1. Most importantly, DO NOT PUT YOUR LIGHTS IN THE OVEN, they will melt after around 6 minutes, trust me, I know 🤦♂️ 2. A decent heat gun, cycled around the glass side a few times works, go slowly and be gentle, the glass can chip around the edges. 3. HID and projector kits are available on both eBay and Amazon, I got everything I need for less than £200 (around 280 usd) 4. You will need a 2.5 inch projector kit, mine used a H1 bulb, I then purchased a “H1 HID kit with ballasts, I then purchased a H4 HI LOW H43 RELAY WIRING HARNESS XENON HID CONVERSION KIT SINGLE CANBUS ERROR FREE” wiring kit, this plugged from my factory wiring directly into the HID kit and also into the shutter hi/low wiring on the projector itself. No need to cut or trim ANY wiring. 5. Make sure you can actually get replacement headlights BEFORE you attempt this, I melted 1 headlight and broke the glass lense on the other before checking to see if I could get another set, cost me a small fortune and had to wait 3 weeks for shipping overseas.

where have you bought all the parts?
@letsshuffle01 Жыл бұрын
I bought the same hi/low wiring harness but my bulbs wouldn’t light up, I concluded that maybe my h1 xentec kit was faulty. As the hi/low adapter would trigger my projector solenoid when I flipped the high beams. I also ordered a different harness that draws power from the battery to see if maybe that would help. Now we wait.

It took over 7 videos before I could find a video that shows how to actually take off head lights, thanks for the video! I’m getting a 2000 forester next week so I’m gonna sub for sure

Dudes! Thanks for the tutorial. Love your vids and I just picked up a '99 Forester with only 94,000 km! I want to do this headlight retrofit, but am having trouble finding the clear lenses, let alone the HIDs. Any suggestions as to where I can find them? Thanks again!

That's cool, but I have a 99 and they have awesome headlights! Just add badass super white high power bulbs
@JKGarage6 жыл бұрын
That's actually what Kasey had before the projectors but with the ribbed glass lenses on the 99's, the light pattern was a mess and everyone he passed on the road would high beam him even though his low beams were on.

There is a much easier way of doing the clips holding the headlight together. Pry the screwdriver under the clip at the front!

I've got Auxbeam LEDS in the headlights and fogs and love them but Im going to paint the inside of the housings black/graphite and do the projector retrofit. What size projector for the headlights did you use? Or link, or company name maybe? I saw the Russia sourced clear lenses on eBay so I know those are still available..just worried about not getting them or length of shipping time..SF5 rain gaurds are a bitch to find too!!

undereducated question, but what kind of paint did you use in there? looked nice.

It was just some off the shelf Rustoleum paint. It's still holding up to this day too.

I would like to use LEDs instead of HIDs. What do you think? I have an '02.
@JKGarage4 жыл бұрын
Should still be plenty bright for stuff up close but LEDs tend to not light up as far down the road as HIDs do

Looking at ordering the clear plastic lens! Is it a quality piece, and how is it holding up? Also did it fit perfect. Thanks! I subbed :)
@JKGarage6 жыл бұрын
Hey Scott, Thanks for subbing! And the clear lens is holding up great. I was a little worried about how they will hold up but its been 10 months and they are still holding strong with no scratches or cracks. I even live on a dirt road and I've been off roading with them too. And as for the fitment its pretty exact except for one thing. The back of the glass housing has a ridge all the way around it that slots into a grove onto the headlight housing. These do not have that ridge but they still fit perfectly.

eBay from Mother Russia. They're linked in the description. The listing expired but it should take you to the new listing when you click the link.

Do I need the clear lens with an 01 Forester?? Or am I good like the 02?
@JKGarage6 жыл бұрын
You will be fine with the stock lens. You just may need to clean it up a bit if the plastic is cloudy.

Can this work for the sf5 2002?
@JKGarage6 жыл бұрын
Yes it can! same process except with the 02 you do not have to buy the aftermarket clear lenses! So it will be about $100 cheaper with that year Forester! If you have any other questions just let us know!

I hoping maybe there is somewhere i can just buy both lights. I'm not good at DIY. Do you know any store or ebay?

They are pretty rare to find on eBay. But I believe there are a couple of Facebook based shops that can retrofit them for you. Only problem there is you may be without your headlights for a week or two!
