Open the gas cap up on the car and then the pressure inside the tank will go down and it might not leak out great video by the way

Did you add fuel before starting the vehicle after replacement? Asking, because prior to pump removal you were around 5/8 of a tank. After replacement you were at 7/8. Wondering if the sending unit was misbehaving. Great video, by the way. Dealing with this issue right now on my wife's Crosstrek.

That tool can remove your fuel lines, cooling lines to your radiator, as well as a few others. You can buy a plastic or metal one, I’ve used mine on multiple repairs, it is not a useless one application tool

I wasted 15 bucks buying the hand tool when I didn't even need it.. The fuel lines have little tabs ya just squeeze with ya fingers to disconnect. No tool needed.

My 2012 Forester Limited has a center fold up square in the center unlike the one in the video. I found the center "clip" and yet when I pull upward on the seat, it wont budge? What am I missing?

I disconnected the starter motor, grabbed a oil drainer container, put the fuel hose in wrapped the end of it in a rag to stop it from spraying everywhere and kept turning the car over, the fuel will continue to come out, obviously not an ideal way js works for me

Thanks for this. There was a recall on my 19 OB. It is going in for a new fuel pump next week. Wanted to see what was involved, and what the dealer would be doing. I don't trust them one bit so want to know what to check on after the work was done. Hope my interior doesn't smell to bad of gas once this is completed.

Turns out sun/moon roof had a leaking seal and all the wet caused it to throw codes. After drying it out and re - setting , clearing , check engine light everything came back on and fuel gauge works fine now

In my legacy the Fuel pump connector burnt, is a common problem, so if you go far from home be sure to have some tools or better change the Fuel pump connector before

Hi, last week my fuel pump failed as a result I search for a second hand fuel pump and changed it. What I am facing right now is once going mountain like a straight forward uphill keep pressing the fuel pedal on second gear or third my rpm once it is over 4 there will be a cut off as if you are not pressing the gas pedal anymore . Start engine. In the enginebay there's a fuelreturn hose. You can disconnect it and put a bucket or something under it.

Man, I broke two fuel assy mounting studs by trying to remove the eight bolts (hit it with PB blaster for few hours before, bolts were quite rusted patiently and slowly trying to turn the nuts without applying to0 much force). Studs in the 12 o'clock and 7 o'clock sheared right off. Still some nuts I could not remove (11, 8 and 6 o'clock). Now I can't remove the assy to replace fuel filter and gasket seal. And I'm afaid to tighten it back up as is and break more studs. Left it overnight with more PB-blaster. Don't know how to get out of this mess without having a new fuel tank installed (1800$ canadian). I'm quite pissed. 2008 Impreza 2.5i with 62000 miles. Timing belt, tensionner, pulleys, spark plugs, coolant just replaced 300 miles ago.

Thanks for the video. I am trying to do this on a 2010 Impreza. Couple of quick questions. 1. You don't mention the torques specs. When you reinsert the fuel pump, do you have to compress or push it down? After I took mine off when I tried to replace the pump it seemed like the pump was taller than when I took it out. Do I just have to tighten the screws to get the pump to fully seat? BTW someone suggested using a fuel resistant gasket sealer. I would not use it again. It never seems to dry or skim over. It got over everything. I am looking to replace the fuel pump now cause the permatex sealer got over everything. Oh well. I am waiting on whether or not it is normal for the pump to kind of stick out and if I just have to tighten the nuts to get it to seat. Thanks for any help.

Not one comment on how moronic it is to have a service item located in the fuel tank? Nice video though. Helped me change out a bad fuel pump so I appreciate the effort. No service tool on the gas lines for me in this case. Just clipped the old ones. This is on a 2010 Forester I bought for my non mechanically inclined son. Love where they put the oil filter also. Will never buy a Subaru after this experience.

Where did they put the oil filter. My 2014 is right on top easy peasy. Heck you could stuck the oil out from the dipstick if you didn't want to get under the car.

@@elmeradams8781 It's one assembly yes but the fuel pump itself is located inside that assembly. You don't need to spend $400 on the entire assembly if your just replacing the pump.

I didn't know you could just buy the pump. I thought it only came as an assembly. I ended up testing the fuel pressure (was just fine). It ended up being a clogged cat. I replaced all 3 cats (California edition) it cost a lot more then $400. But the car has lots of power now.
