@@szymon6207 It isn't surge. Surge is when you get a barking sound while under throttle. This sound comes from when he lets off the gas and the throttle body slams shut. The air goes back towards the turbo and causes it to chop the air. Can also happen if the BoV is too tight.

It happens when the throttle body is closed suddenly and the blowoff valve or bypass valve doesn't release excess boost pressure quickly enough, causing the extra air to run back through the turbo, causing the flutter. It's said to be bad for the turbo and to cause premature wear.

Used to be a really popular mod here in Australia back in the early to mid 2000's. Never really hear "doses" anymore. Look up the VL Turbo, they were really well known here for the turbo flutters/doses

It's not a bov making the sound it's sound it's turbo. The standard sti and wrx both run a factory bov but it's a recirculating one

Marc Instone no, turbo noises are surge. The bov is that tssss, it releases that pressure. That’s why turbo flutter isn’t great, it sounds sick as fuck, but it’s not that healthy for ya turbos

Translation: That's a really nice sound of excess pressure that isn't escaping via the blow off valve back feeding through the compressor turbine causing increased wear on turbo internals. I'm sure they'll appreciate the sound most when the shaft inside the turbo shatters.

Another person that doesn't know my build. Surge whilst on acceleration is bad yes but surge on lift off no. Also having a custom built billet turbo had no issues, the turbo was on for 3 years with no issues and when I sold it, it was like new. It spent most of its life on track and been perfectly fine. Also once flat out there's no flutter it's only when I let it spike and loft off... so playing. The worst that a big of surge like mine has, instead of a 60k lifespan on the turbo it might lower it to 50k... I do about 2k a year if that and that's on track... so.... yeah no issues.
