I have an 05 Subaru Outback, making awful noise on cold starts and turns in colder temps. No noticeable loss of fluid. Belt appears tight, I changed the top return hose and clamps, added an o-ring on the part that attaches to the pump. Have tried bleeding the air multiple times, turning the wheels and it works for the day, until it sits over night,

Check the hoses for leaks. You might clean them off first then check them a day later to see what's wet. All hoses, not just the ones gonig to the pump, but also the ones that go down to the steering.

@@FatGuyBuilds I replaced my pump in my 2011 outback w/ the 3.6l. Turned the steering wheel side to side making sure I couldn't hear the pump whine anymore & after all said & done whenever I go into reverse & turn to back out the car will idle really low until it completely turns off. Do you think it's a separate issue?

Man this is giving me a headache. I recently installed a new power steering pump on my 04 Legacy. Turning is better initially, but the more sharp turns I make, the more the steering wheel gets stiffer. I popped the hood and realized there's a pool of steering fluid that's leaking from the top of the new steering pump, right where the lines go in. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could try next?
