Watched a couple different videos, so I could replace the power steering pump on my 2008 Forester. This, by far, was the most detailed and useful of them. Thank you for your thoroughness, including all the torque spec's. Great job!

There are other videos out there that take the pump out by removing the two torx bolts and the rear bolt. I just did my 2009 Outback's steering pump, and *THIS* is the right way to do it. The third bolt - in back - that he eventually takes out (17:00) goes through a slot in the pump. The only way I had clearance to get it out, and get things back in, was to pull the bracket like this guy does. For the pulley, the problem isn't the pulley, it's the nut that holds it on. I had to soak it in liquid wrench *and* hit it twice with a propane torch to get it to break free. The pulley itself popped off without a puller. Well done!

Great video, detailed and very thorough, and the close ups were very helpful. I discovered a neat trick when trying to back out the bushing on the bracket. I put a large socket over the back of the bushing, then used a C clamp to squeeze it back. Worked great!

Great video for the basic replacement of the Power Steering Pump. The only thing that's missed is the system flush as you didn't actually know what went wrong with the old pump and it could have been as simple as dirty power steering fluid. I only mention it because I need to do a system flush as well and those instructions aren't here.

where did you get the pump? I cant seem to find any good ones with the nice pulley and such you have there.
@ryans.59982 жыл бұрын
Does spinning the pulley like that constitute "bleeding" the system? Should I spin it until the reservoir stops bubbling to make sure there's no air left in the system? What about turning the wheel lock to lock? Is that only necessary when I'm doing a full flush of the fluid?

@JBFlys092 жыл бұрын
@@FixinBugsNStuff is there a small filter along any of the power steering lines that can be replaced or no? Also, if the pump is kinda noisy after installing a new one, what would you say could be the cause?
@FixinBugsNStuff2 жыл бұрын
@@JBFlys09 air in the system would cause noise. Some people put in an inline filter which is suppose to make the rack and pinion last longer.

Replace the o-ring that connects to the high pressure line. Get the air out of the lines. It may be the new pump could be defective.
