I finished this install along with the Perrin brace install. Hardest part was bleeding the clutch because the valve is so tiny. Followed the IAG AOS video for intercooler removal. Took me 6 hours with a friend to do, but overall I'm happy with the install. Zero added noise, harshness and vibration and a tiny bit of an effect of a firmer acceleration and better clutch pedal feel.

A little tip for next time you do the intercooler that will make life a little easier take the driver side intercooler bracket off with the two 12mm bolts on the intake manifold and put a little wd40 on the coupler it will slide right on. Then you can slide the bracket back on once you get everything back in place. That trick has saved me time more than I can count working on my STI. Slick part though I run the same on mine and that engine bay looks 🔥!

Thanks for the tip! I have the pitch mount brace coming, so I will be pulling the intercooler again. I’ll try this method during that install.

@@Autofreakgarage no prob! I learned that one the hard way fighting my process west tmic! Lol I think it makes it heaps easier along with the lubrication on the turbo inlet. When you remove that bracket it will let the intercooler drop a little lower and give you a little more maneuverability for sure. Also the pitch mount brace is kind of a bear of a install since it’s pretty cramped up against the firewall when your putting the riv nuts in. My biggest issue was making sure that all of the air was out of the slave cylinder for the stainless clutch line. I bled mine about three times before all the air was out so you might want to have some extra brake fluid on hand. Hopefully this helps!

I'm excited to see what you think of the pitch stop and brace. As a daily driver I'm not sure about the need for the brace or pitch stop.. some complain about added vibrations and harder shifting since there's no give now.. can't wait to hear your thoughts :)

It should as it’s the same concept.

They had since the GR/GV to upgrade this mount and hopefully the next gen wrx/sti they fix those weak point issues.

Yes sir. it's a mod that has stuck around for generations. Loved it on my wrx. I am sure aftermarket companies will jump on any weak points in the next gen. Hopefully less weak points to fix from factory though!

No Perrin pitch stop brace install simultaneously as well 🤔? The firewall has a reputation of shall we say being flexible subject to cracking not being stiff and robust as hell. A stiffer pitch mount also puts more stress on the weak OEM firewall connection point as well. I am somewhat surprised you usually are so thorough and particular with your installs and efficient as hell. Any particular reason you are saving the brace installation for another time pray tell 🤔? As for colour it only matters if you go FMIC then the mount is exposed. As you aptly pointed out with a TMIC any freaking colour really goes because no one can see 👀 what colour you actually chose 🤣🤣. But you can cover all the bases if you are uncertain 🤨 of your final intercooler choice because black goes with everything no matter what the intercooler configuration choice. And once again we both agree it was Perrin for me when it came to a pitch stop mount and brace for my WRX Subie. Our only difference is the colour we chose. Regardless our appreciation 👍👏 for longevity and reliability shows, for we do a mod even if the actual mod itself is often hidden from view and it never is seen or shows.
