Subaru WRX STI Engine Oil Change and Fumoto Drain Valve Install

I put a fumoto in 14 my forester xt at my first oil change. I change my oil once a month cause I have a long commute. I’ve got it down to about ten minutes start to finish. Don’t even need a jack. That filter being on top is a godsend.

Great video! Thanks for sharing what to do to tighten it. Like what size wrench and how much turn is needed. Most install videos on the fumoto valve doesn’t even show that.

Fumoto valves are nice. I had one on my Subaru until about a year and a half ago. I changed to the Valvomaxx valve instead. 2 big reasons. 1. The valve stays clean because it has a cover that comes with the valve. This is very important for people who go off-road or live in an area that has a lot of under carriage contaminants. 2. The Fumoto valve got stiff to open over time and because it uses a thin metal leaver it started to hurt to do the oil change. The Valvomaxx does use a separate tool but so far hasn’t gotten stiff nor should it because the valve is protected. Just my two cents.

@@treblemix_ valvomaxx valve has different sized threading for different oil pans but the outside part is exactly the same between all the versions. I hope I answered your question.

@@treblemix_ stock pan. As I said they offer different size threads for screwing into most oil pans. You just order the one for the Subaru oil pan.

I use Castrol Edge 5W-30 Full-Synthetic on my 2019 STI. Currently at 26,000 miles & doesn't burn a drop.

Interesting product. Any concern that you no longer have a magnet to collect metallic debris or that you no longer get that last 1/16-1/8in of oil in the pan?

i have never once on any car ever filled the filter with oil before installing it & ive never had any problems.

Amazing video man, I have a question for you...I thought of doing this as well to my 2017 STI and it came to me they are metal on metal parts inside an engine and overtime wearans tear is caused duh. I just want to know what are your thoughts on this drain plug you install versus an magnetic drain plug made by Dimple Magnetics. I’m running one made by dimple magnetics and every oil change I wipe it clean and there is a light coating of metal particles in the oil and If I where to install that petcock kind of drain plug like you did in the video I wouldn’t have been able to pick up metal particles in the oil. So it gives me peace of mind that I’m somewhat in someway helping my motor

any disadvantage to the Fumoto valve since there is no magnet at the end of it compared to the standard oil drain plug?

How much oil do you think is left in the pan when using this valve? Do you have a magnet on the pan to trap/hold shavings so they don't float around? After a year...have you made any alterations to the Fumoto valve threads to aid in extracting nearly all of the oil out of the pan?

Is it true those valves tend to leak? Have you had any leakage using this valve?

Your engine oil should be warm at least, to thin the oil and ensure that as much drains as is possible. It should not be cooled down

Pennzoil synthetic 530 has been proven to be the better oil

I’ve been using Schaefer oil since I bought the ‘04 Wagon. Available only from dealers, of which there are 3 in my area. Not cheap at about $8.00/quart but I feel this is the most important maintenance item you can use.

It's spring loaded so the lever takes some force to move past the detent
