As Subaru tech, I could tell u the Mazda filter is same as Tokyo Roki 15208aa160 which is slightly bigger than 15208aa100. Crappy Fran blue filters had been replaced with better blue AC Delco filter till recent Subaru gets back on Tokyo Roki filters. Right now 15208aa20a is the alternative of aa160. For engine oil, I use Motul 8100xclean+ 5w30. Try it out next time.

Thanks for the info! Yes it seems like some Subaru of America dealerships are starting to get the Tokyo Roki filters again, so hopefully they will be more affordable too

do you happen to have a link or part number for the crush washer?
@STi_Alan
@STi_Alan 4 ай бұрын
The part number for the crush washer is: 11126AA000 Often times you can get them included with the Subaru filter but many places will also sell the crush washers in bulk

this is a very helpful video. easy to follow and excellent equipment, but how do you reset the oil life status?
@STi_Alan
@STi_Alan Жыл бұрын
Thanks! On the 2015-2021 WRX/STI you can choose to set the interval for when you want the oil change notification, either by miles or time, with the maintenance settings on the mini center screen (the same screen as the boost gauge) Then the notification will go away until the time you've set

@xrmerkur Жыл бұрын
@@STi_Alan what mileage do you recommend with the oil you used? particularly if your STI is a daily.
@STi_Alan
@STi_Alan Жыл бұрын
For daily driving, changing the oils every 6,000 miles should be sufficient but it’s still good to keep a check on the oil levels as the STI sometimes likes to burn oil

What wrench would I need to? Would it specifically be a torque wrench I’d need to use ?
@STi_Alan
@STi_Alan 2 күн бұрын
The torque wrench is just for those final couple of turns to make sure you tightened the drain plug back up to the right spec. For removing and screwing the drain plug back on, you just need a simple ratchet and socket.

Should I change my oil before dyno? Even I hasn't reached the mileage range required to do the oil change
@STi_Alan
@STi_Alan 17 күн бұрын
I guess it depends on how long you've had the oil and what you and the person operating the dyno prefers. I personally wouldn't worry about it too for just a few dyno pulls

You did not mention why you put the jack back under the car after lowering to the jack stands, and left it engaged while you were underneath. Can you explain the reasons, and how you still allowed tension on the stands so it would be stable?
@STi_Alan
@STi_Alan Жыл бұрын
sorry, I guess I should’ve mentioned that once the car is being held up on the jack stands, I like to put the jack just slightly below the jacking point as a backup, just in case the jack stands were to fail. During this time the car is only being held up by the jack stands with the jack on standby

how much did they pay for the used oil and filter ?
@STi_Alan

They don’t pay for the used oil or filter but it’s free and very convenient compared to taking it to a recycling center but many auto parts stores do pay a little for used batteries

Why is your oil filter so oily? Is there a leak?
@STi_Alan
@STi_Alan Жыл бұрын
I was also questioning that myself! I didn’t see any oil in the under tray and my oil levels were always pretty consistent so I doubt there’s a leak, but the dealership changed it last time so I think they just had oily hands 😅
@syo_nara1916
@syo_nara1916 Жыл бұрын
@@STi_Alan nah son, that's too much residue for oily hands, you need to do a check after a few hundred miles. if it doesn't appear then it would mean that it was previously put on loosely. If it does appear. you need to check the oil cooler gasket.
