The WRX pricing is tragic. My local Subaru dealer has 12 WRX in stock, all at a huge discount, and they just upped the prices. They probably won’t sell, and that will lead to them killing the WRX entirely.

Regarding the WRX info, agreed this is tremendously unfortunate. Subaru will likely see sales decline maybe that means a deal in the future when the WRX models will likely sit on the lot. Truly a shame they are pricing themselves out. I don’t see many taking a WRX over an Elantra N, GR Corolla, Golf R, or Type R from the $36-$46k range.
@GokuTheHuskyАй бұрын
The WRX has sold more than both now though according to statistics 😂
@replica4194Ай бұрын
@@GokuTheHusky but how many of those other cars are more production limited than the WRX. It's one thing to say they sell less with similar production, it's another if they sell every one they make and it just happens to be fewer. I think Subaru has put the WRX in a corner. If you can't afford a GR, must have AWD, and must have a manual, there's a very slim market there. But I already thought the N was a better deal and now I'd feel stupid not buying one. Same with the GR or Type R if you have deeper pockets.
@preventer333Ай бұрын
I dunno, Elantra N is ridiculously hard to get hold of, not to mention dealer markup is still being imposed in my neighborhood it seems. WRX on the other hand, I see their sales declining of course but nobody wants to pick up the base model. Lack of STi truly left this car stranded, and it is a good time for Subaru to bring back the STi to revitalize the interest behind the car.
@anthonydannunzio134Ай бұрын
All good points. End of the day the WRX package is a hard sell for me, dollar for dollar in my opinion. Build quality is very good and awd is great. But on other metrics gas mileage, engine power, trans feel/performance, infotainment, seats, wheels, brakes etc..the WRX just doesn’t bring enough to the table for the price point compared to competitors. True the markups do exist but not everywhere and the comparison is sticker to sticker. At that comparison the Subaru TS is now more expensive than the Type R… unreal

The tS will doom the WRX lineup as a whole forcing the VB gen to be the last gen WRX Subaru will produce and will produce without an STI, which is ignorant on their end. $46,875 with 271hp and 258lb-ft of tq is not justifiable for that price or performance. $34,000 for an Elantra N with 276hp and 289lb-ft is justifiable. $39,000 for a GR Corolla Core trim with 300hp and 273lb-ft is justifiable. Add 22lb-ft of tq more making it 295lb-ft for the Premium trim at $43,000 (formerly the Circuit Edition) and Premium Plus (formerly the Morizo Edition) $46,000 and they are both still justifiable by their trims. A Civic Type R with 315hp and 310lb-ft of tq (granted, you can find one at MSRP) for $44,000 is justifiable. A 2025-2026 MK8.5 Golf R (with no longer a manual transmission after the 2024MY) with 315hp and 288lb-ft of tq $45,000 is justifiable. To throw a curve ball, an Integra Type S (although more money than a WRX but has more hp and tq than a WRX) with 320hp and 310lb-ft of tq at $52,000-$53,000 ($6,000-$7,000) is justifiable because its performance matches the price. The $46,875 WRX tS is 2021 VA gen WRX STI Limited and 2020 WRX STI Series White money. Subaru knows what they're doing and if they're going to kill the car off without a VB gen STI at least for 3 model years, 2026-2028MY, then what they're doing is mission accomplished for the wrong reasons.

Subaru's pricing can only be justified if the STi is really coming back on VB platform. I'm waiting patiently and still believe 55k-60k for STi is still justifiable, if the performance figures do match what was 'leaked' by MotorTrend's Johnny Lieberman. I still take that with grain of salt, but if the STi is really testing its waters right now, 400+hp STi is bargain, adjusting for inflation and any remotely comparable cars. Supposedly JDM market is announcing their S210 in 2025. Let's see if that gives us any level of comfort or justification. If not, then tS is truly meant to be doomed in sales and the WRX sales will even falter harder. I like the tS, but still not buying it, without Subaru giving its customer base more clear roadmap or something to look for.

I have hopes that the "death" of the Supra is a hood thing. I am definitely one of the haters. I wanted to like the car and would have even bought one of done right. IMO a Japanese icon with a German drivetrain just aint right. I really hope with the sports car renaissance we are in that the car will return and be a real Toyota.
