As every deep sea activities are done ROVs nobody has human rated deepsea submarines anymore, so the existing demande for tourist dives is higher than the non existing offer. The only thing they missed was the "human rated" part and the engineering and certification costs that comes along side...

I do not believe you can compare a ROV viewing on screen to seeing it with your own eyes. The business was not to find or locate something, it was selling adventure and risk to wealthy people. So to say the business plan made no sense is a stretch.

I agree, that was my take also. I'm sure there is plenty of money floating around for such a business. But the main mistake was winding the carbon fiber hull like a spool of thread rather than weaving it somehow. That was doomed for failure.

If you watched the entire hearing and Stanley's full interview you would understand that it made no sense from a business standpoint the way Stockton was going with his imaginations and that his submersible was amateur at best, not built or ready for commercial purposes, full of problems and constantly having issues, and that there also were loud explosion sounds of the hull undergoing intense pressure, which would quickly deter clientele away from such an impending disaster, on top of charging a ridiculous amount of money.

@@rogerwilcojr Weaving would have made no difference. The failure point was the interface between the carbon and titanium. Besides that, carbon fiber gets nearly all it's strength from tension. Under compression the epoxy resin is taking the brunt of the load, not the actual carbon fibers. It's basically rope encased in glue. Pull on a rope and it's strong. Push on a rope and it flops. CF was simply a terrible choice for this type of application.
