Tried this method for the first time and it is a game changer. Hottub owner for 30 years and wow!!! All that time lost doing the slow drain method. Thank you!!! A bit of clean up still to do, wipe down, and closed for the Summer.

I am a first time hottub owner of about 3 months now. And I wanted to thank you for your channel. The information you provide has definitely helped my wife and I take good care of it. We bought a new Calspa which was not cheap. We want to take the best care of it and your channel helps us do that. Thanks again! Keep the videos coming please and thank you 😊

Hi. I just wanted to let you know that your clip you added at 1:47 is not syncing with your audio track. Your audio track is way ahead of your video track which makes it a little challenging to watch. However, your content and information is great! I thought you may want to know. Keep the info flow going. Thanks for your tutorial. I am a first time hot tib owner.

Question!!! I thought you recommended NOT to use all purpose cleaning products but to use water and white vinegar? Which is correct?
@julianjefferies18974 жыл бұрын
Really enjoyed watching your videos, thanks. I can't find any videos on youtube about hot tubs that are only used for short periods. Our hot tub is in a holiday rental property and gets drained & cleaned after each use as there's often weeks before the next booking. I just wonder how the chemical advice differs if you know the tub will be emptied after just a week of use?
@HotTubOwnerHQ4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words and for being here on the channel. Good question too. I had to think about it for a little bit. My first thought was, if it's going to be more than 3 weeks in between visits I would almost be tempted to drain it and shut it down and then start fresh. But I guess you don't always know how quickly the next rental will happen? You certainly don't want to waste a lot of money on chemicals treating the water if it's going to dissipate before anybody actually uses it, but you also don't want to let It go long periods of time with low or no sanitizer either. The biggest potential damage to your hot tub really would be if the ph and the alkalinity were way off so I think if you can balance that after the visit it shouldn't drift much if no one's getting in there and using it. Then I would probably just do a heavy shock a day or two before your next booking and then use your normal sanitizer maybe the morning of the next visit. Great question though!

I'm lucky in that my house backs up to a county-owned greenbelt that's full of cactus and sticker burrs, so that works fine for running my pump hose to. But all joking aside it is definitely important to not drain it on anything of importance (or anything important to your neighbors 😁) Thanks for being here! - Jeff

Hot Tub Owner HQ I appreciate the info! We have a tub ordered as well as a large concrete patio. I took the time last weekend to trench my gutters to the edge of my property(backs up to a prairie) and put a nice intake to easily send tub drainage along the same path 👍

Do these hoses come in longer lengths like 100-200 feet so I can empty into the street. 25 feet isn’t long enough for me to empty.

Do you have to do any draining of the plumbing after the initial drain? Also can you drain into sewer?
@HotTubOwnerHQ4 жыл бұрын
It should definitely be fine to drain in a sewer. And you could definitely hook the wet dry vac up to each jet to vacuum out any remaining water that might be inside of the jet, but I don't personally find that to be necessary.

I fill it with fresh water and drain that water and then do a final fill.

Hi Jeff, I love your channel. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and experiences. I drained our hot tub about 5 years ago and we have not filled it again until now. My question is: I am going to fill my hot tub up and use the "Oh Yuck" chemical. Can I use that chemical in cold water? My plan is to fill the tub, add the Oh Yuck chemical, let the jets run for about an hour, then drain and clean the tub. Then I will refill the tub and start the process of heating , testing the water, and Sanitation process. Hopefully all goes well. I would appreciate your thoughts in this matter. Thank you for all you do.
@HotTubOwnerHQ3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron. Sorry for my delay as you've probably already moved on with this. But while I think it probably works better in hot water, it should work OK in cold water, and I would definitely do that for a tub that's been sitting empty and potentially never had a biofilm cleaning done to it.

Im going to use a Bromine Tablet with a floater... My question I will just put in the floater with Tablet and not have to pour in the Bromine liquid?
@HotTubOwnerHQ4 жыл бұрын
Correct! I stopped using bromine liquid altogether. I put 3-4 tablets in the floater and toss it in. Then, aside from a little weekly shock, I don't do anything until those tablets are almost gone. Then I just add a few more.

A minuscule amount of water in the bottom doesn’t seem like it is worth getting a vacuum to remove. Also, would it be smarter to plug in the pump after submerging?

I know you wait till the spa is full of water before testing it. But does the water temperature matter when adding chemicals to it?
@HotTubOwnerHQ4 жыл бұрын
In general no, although hot water would help it dissolve faster. But no harm in just adding the chemicals right when it's topped off. That way, by the time it is hot, it'll be totally ready for you to get in. Great question!

Great videos.. What test strips would you recommend?
@JW-wr4ep4 жыл бұрын
What was the spray you used?
@HotTubOwnerHQ4 жыл бұрын
It was just an ordinary all-purpose spray cleaner we have at our house. Just avoid using any soap products as that can lead to foaming issues. I would also not use any kind of cleanser as it's too abrasive. If there's no dirt, grime, or film, you arguably don't need to clean it with any chemical; just do a quick rinse with the house and vac it out.

No filter in your hot tub? Unless I am replacing the filter, cleaning the filter that has been in the hot tub is a bit of a pain in the butt, but needs to also be done.🤷♂️

Hi Rose. I do have a few videos on filter cleaning & maintenance, so that wasn't the goal of this particular video and I also don't take my filters out just to drain the tub, although I do if I'm doing a biofilm cleaning (which I also have another video on). Thanks, Jeff

No info as to what pH, Bromine or Clorine levels should be
@HotTubOwnerHQ3 жыл бұрын
Hi Herbert. Just get some test strips, dip in the water for 10 seconds, shake excess water off, and then compare the color on the stip for each category (usually chlorine/bromine, pH, alkalinity) to the guide on the side of the bottle. You'll be able to tell at a glance if one is too high or too low. I like the Poolmaster 4-way test strips, so here's the Amazon link if you need it - amzn.to/38YI6bL
