You are doing better than I expected, though, finding the cave sulphur and figuring out that *a given plant may yield different resources depending on whether you pick it up or harvest it with a knife.* This is an important thing to keep in mind as you continue through the game, as you will eventually be growing food in soil and you'll need to use the knife to get more seeds to replant.

Please make this a playthrough and not a stream! This game, like Outer Wilds, THRIVES on your own slowly growing knowledge and understanding on the world around you, and spoilers would be very detrimental to that, especially this early. That said, I would be so very, very pleased to get to see you experience more of this game. There's so many incredible places and mysterious surprises waiting to be discovered!

Jon's streams are thankfully pretty spoiler-free. He usually has Claire reading the chat for him as a filter.
@GameronGames1015 жыл бұрын
@@cerberus0225 Even then, the amount of hints he got during the early Outer Wilds streams(I haven't finished the later ones yet) was wayyy too many. It isn't so much spoilers that ruin things, because Claire acts as a filter, but the subversion of the games normal pace. Jon discovers a new thing, and immediately gets hints from chat on what to do. Even subtle/non-story hints shouldn't be relayed, figuring out what and how to do things is the entire point.

@@GameronGames101 Ehh, I played through Outer Wilds and I've seen the first two streams and I gotta disagree. Jon got hints, sure, but there was plenty he missed or didn't figure out too.
@GameronGames1015 жыл бұрын
@@cerberus0225 I guess, but I still think the entire mindset kinda ruins it. Outer Wilds is amazing, but often one of Jon's first thoughts was to ask chat what to do. Plus, there's the whole comet fiasco. I personally don't think Jon would have had such a bad taste with that if he hadn't been told by chat what to do. Either way, Subnautica is a very well directed game, there are small hints hidden everywhere in the lore that give all the direction needed (other than cave sulphur, that's an exception). Any input from chat would speed up Jon's progression through the game, but that isn't really an issue in the first place

I've played almost nothing else since, and the whole time I've been thinking how much you would LOVE this game. Puns aside, in terms of mechanics and story it is SO much deeper than it looks; you've barely scratched the surface. And you're right that it is outstandingly suited for a livestream, with its recurring loops of peaceful travel, resource-gathering, and inventory management to catch up on superchats, and the way hints from the chats can help find things you overlooked (like the PDA you looked straight at and didn't take, or all the sandstone you swam right past while talking about it...). So a few tips Jon. 1. the Rebreather will give you more O2 efficiency as you go down. But at some point the pressure will be too high. which is when you will need a vehicle. 2. those little boxes fromt he wreck. normally have one side open on them and allows you to scan the component. 3. the Aurora has a ton of valuable and rare scans. and rare loot to get. 4. collect quartz whenever you can. (you will need a lot of materials.) 5. when you do build a vehicle there will be upgrade slots. some let you go deeper or decrease energy consumption. (the cyclops thermal energy recharger is a must.) 6. you'll sometimes find deposits of ore. you need special equipment to use them. 7. you can carry more then 1 O2 tank at a time. it will slow you down a bit. 8. you can put your hands down to increase swim speed slightly. 9. the Seaglide is your friend it also has a light. and you can turn the holo-map off if you want to save battery. 10. if you find a Reginald catch it. and put it in storage. live fish put in storage will not rot. with the reginald is the best food fish. and you can breed more with the alien containment. 11. Batteries have a charger function. your base can use solar power to slowly recharge batteries. there are other deep-sea ways to generate power. 12. you can build a water purifier in your base.. that's about it. I don't want to spoil too many things for you Jon. Have fun. ^_^

Jon, I absolutely love you for playing this. Fair warning though, this game has a habit of not explaining a few quite important things. If you'd like to figure out the mechanics of base building on your own, have a lovely day and ignore the rest of this comment. So things to know about base building. Firstly, the air pump and pipes are for piping air FROM a base to somewhere you want a more easily accessible air source (like down into some of those deep caves). That said, I never bothered with them myself. Your base will produce oxygen as long as it has power, but producing oxygen doesn't consume power. A more important point, you don't actually need foundations to build a base. Foundations are just one of the ways of increasing "hull integrity". As long as the hull integrity of your base is above 0 however, everything is fine. If it drops below, your base will start flooding. Another important note that you may have noticed, deconstructing anything with the habitat builder fully refunds any materials. So you're always free to keep adjusting things and changing your mind about placements until you're satisfied. There's a ton more, but those are probably the most important bits. Hope you enjoy the playthrough bud. Its a wonderful game. (with some sweet mods btw) Thank you for giving it a chance.

‘The aurora’s where you get stuff!’ Oh no... Also, red grasslands near ship are bad - reaper leviathans! Jon’s fear of big sea creatures has only just begun!

The base-attached air pump is basically useless. You could use it to get oxygen from your base over to a nearby resource-rich area so you don't have to surface, but you're much better off just using the seamoth, which refills your oxygen when you get inside as long as it has power.

APSOLUTELY PLEASE MAKE THIS A SERIES! You seem to be getting the hang of this perfectly well and it seems so perfect for you. This game is amazing and I really want to see you explore this more.

the bad things don't show up until later when you go deeper or close to the front or back of the ship. the sea glide has a flashlight on it. the big snake thing that life pod 17 got attacked by is in that cave system and they are hostile.

I think a live stream of this would spoil to much and distract from the experience
@sepboeren32915 жыл бұрын
I mean claire and the mods are good at avoding spoilers, i think it'd be a good game to stream since its just kinda chill and sometimes a little help is usefull so you're not just wandering around every biome looking for something
@GameronGames1015 жыл бұрын
@@sepboeren3291 I think it's less spoilers people are worried about. Looking at outer wilds, Jon would get any answer to any problem as soon as he can't do it himself. Don't have water? Chat tells him where and what he needs. Subnautica has a PDA for a reason, and using it is very important. Beyond that though, and perhaps more pressingly, is the fact that Subnautica is a scary game. Maybe not horror (though is was for me at times), but the unknown and fear of the unknown is a massive source of the games atmosphere. Being with Claire and having chat to talk to will mess with that massively. The best way to play this game is alone, without any wiki unless truly stuck for an extended amount of time.

So glad you enjoyed this! I just started my second play-through. I am also terrified of sea monsters. The beauty of Subnautica is that even though there are far more giant and terrifying things out there, you CAN always retreat back to your lovely safe base in the lovely safe shallows.

Please make this a series! I can totally relate about the fear of the ocean, especially the deeper areas. But it makes it that much more "real" to play (or watch someone play). Completely understand if you can't make it a series, but if you could please do! It is such a good game and I love watching your vids.

@Jon I really recommend going through this game, even if it isn't recorded. There are moments in this game that were, for me at least, moments that gave a sense of wonder that I haven't experienced in a game since I was a small child. This really is an experience as much as a game.
@MST3Killa5 жыл бұрын
That moment of stepping out of the vault in Fallout 3 gave me the same sensation frankly. The first time I went into a deep cave system in Minecraft too. It did a really great job of balancing intrigue and wonder with a pervading ominous feel...which is what exploration ought to have. It's a bit scary, it's new, it's unknown... but there might be cool stuff so let's go!

The floating pump can be connected with pipes downward to provide additional oxygen so you don't have to go all the way to the surface. I hope to see a full series. Such an awesome game.

The story in this game is excellent, please continue, it has a definitive end point as well. This is an extremely fun stream game, just make sure you have moderators filter messages to you since there's some spoilers. A few non-spoiler tips: - whenever your scanner room is not immediately being used, turn it off, it drains a shitload of power. - carry around a couple spare batteries and swap them out when necessary to avoid your seaglide crapping out 200m down. - you will eventually find an item with purple in the name of the item, and other colored items similar to it. when you can get these, be sure to craft and carry 2 of each on you at all times or keep them stowed in the storage on your vehicles at all times, to avoid huge amounts of backtracking.

Jonnnnn! You missed the blue tablet thing in lifepod 3! They tell useful bits of lore, or help you understand what to do next. Go back and grab it, and look out for more! Also you keep missing boxes on the seabed that may contain fragments of things you need.

Very much envious of you starting this game for the first time. I'm still waiting on them to finish below zero so I can get lost in that. Please consider making this a series. I understand your fear of the water, however it truly is a good game when you delve deeper into the story.

This was a joy to watch, I had a smile on my face throughout. I thought it might be right up your street Jon. I would love to see this become a series, just be prepared for long periods where you need to keep exploring til you suddenly find a way further in the story. It’s well worth the effort!
