The Tire-iron in the spare tire hole with the lug wrench on one end is heavy enough in my 2018 Toyota Corolla. just for future reference if you are out somewhere
@spiralsun1 Жыл бұрын
Solved the problem in 2 minutes on a 2018 corolla. I used the tire-iron/wrench which comes in the spare tire hole under the trunk liner! Absolutely amazing, thank you sooooo much!! NOTE: Be sure to lube the latch very well before closing again. after I used a metal-treating lube on the contact points it stopped getting stuck. I also used precise-point spray white lithium grease on all the moving parts after. Thanks again. I love you so much right now!

That was genius. I spent 2 hours trying to open it. No luck. Then, I found your video and boom. It popped right open. Didn’t have to break open my wife’s Prius and mess up her car. Worked like a charm.
@cantweallgetalong2 жыл бұрын
What did the big screw driver do? I just had a friend pop the hood latch while I kept up pressure and nothing. Then I tried down pressure and nothing, Then I tried pounding on the hood above the latch area and had the latch popped at the same time and nothing again. So, my guess is the cable is way to slack or broke.
@slugzkea2 жыл бұрын
@@cantweallgetalong did you ever get it open? my cable freyed and broke.
@cantweallgetalong2 жыл бұрын
@@slugzkea Yep, I used a very long serpentine belt wrench, but if you have anything that can reach the distance that is sturdy enough to push on the release mechanism with a couple pounds of pressure, it will pop. I had a hard time figuring out where the mechanism was located until I looked closer at other videos and realized I was looking too far forward. It is closer to engine compartment than the grill. And get a good flash light or shop light to spot the release, it has a small 1/4"-3/8" bent tab in the metal release that you push on. My cable had a "plastic" ferrule that cracked and allowed the cable to fall out of the cradle of the mechanism. This prevented the cable from having any tension and couldn't trip the release. Rather than buy an entire new cable, I just used "stainless steel bailing wire' to secure the cable in the cradle. Toyota should have a recall for that stupid design with a "plastic" ferrule that cracks. It should have been a metal ferrule. This can easily cost you a couple hundred dollars if you take it to a mechanic and probably $500 or more at the dealer. Good luck.
@slugzkea2 жыл бұрын
@@cantweallgetalong I pushed the black grill in then got the grill out. Unbolted the 3 bolts that hold the mechanism, now to figure out how to get that damn cable housing to stop holding the stupid thing down
@cantweallgetalong2 жыл бұрын
@@slugzkea Oh, if you have the whole mechanism in your hand, you will have to hold very securely while tapping on the bent tab with a small hammer or the handle of a 10" Adjustable wrench. I simply pushed up from below to give you a better perspective. Maybe even a medium size screw driver could be used to either tap or use pry leverage, if you can hold it with one hand securely. Man, you are so close.

I have a Suzuki XL-7 that keeps getting the hood stuck, I didn't have a large screwdriver or prybar, but I had a manual landscape edger that was heavier on the handle site. It barely fit under the edge of the hood but gave it a bit a of tension and the hood popped right open when I pulled the release. Thanks for this tip, brilliantly simple solution that's not always obvious.

This was the second video I watched on this topic. The first suggested sawing part of the front of the car out before unscrewing the offending area. I thought that had to be bonkers. And it was. My 2011 Toyota Auris popped open in an instant using the tyre wrench from the boot. Brilliant. I just pity those poor souls who decided to take a saw to their car instead.
