Listening to this song in high school had a really profound effect. Especially when it’s you’re final year sitting in English 12 looking out a window that is the entire length of the classrooms wall, located at a section of the school on top of hill overlooking a street with farms, trees, & a park on one side & massive suburbia on the other. While you’re observing classmates & friends thinking about how frustrating, temporary & disappointing this had all been while realizing - it never mattered.

His best tracks were his ballads. And this one was his masterpiece!! After all these years, I still get frisson when I listen to this!

It is truly remarkable how criminally under rated this record truly is. Ground breaking on multiple levels. There is and was no genre to "box" them into. Which is the problem with the industry as a whole. I agree with the posts below.. His ballads are still among my favorite all time, no contest

Truly, beautifully haunting. This song is a legitimate masterpiece, buried deep in the depths of the most talented Canadian rock songs. Matt and the band orchestrated this tune to perfection. It truly speaks deeply to one's ears, soul, and heart, and mine especially.

My all time favorite group! This coming from a metal head! They represent the pinnacle of Canadian rock in the 90's. A truly amazing movement only overshadowed by Grunge. An absolute musical treasure and I've been blessed with being able to enjoy every bit of it!

You oughta be absolutely should be because your country far out shines your neighbors here just below you. There are so many great Canadian artists. I can’t even began to tell you how many of me, including this one. have influenced me as a musician and or sometimes just gotten me through my own dark Knight of the soul. 1000,000 years a lifetime ago when I used to do music professionally I was deeply touched that I actually did much better in Canada than I did when I was touring my own home country. Ontario and Manitoba so very kind and then another Canadian who saw my show in the late 90s actually came to see me when I was playing in Scotland a few years later, and I think that’s the only thing that exists any live show of mine on the KZbin archives although not because I put it there lol. I could listen to Matthew and the weakerthans and The tragically hip without ceasing never getting bored. I have not been there in almost 20 years, but Canada has a special spot in my heart. Does Matthew good hell yeah…. I was driving a cabin in Cleveland and my coworker was a man named Tim Shaw. I was going on some reckless runs because my brother had passed away that month and I was kind of hoping somebody else would take me out. This was in the 90s and the late Tim had a clever way of pushing me out of my comfort zone musically, wanting to hear me do a variety of styles and artists. In addition to my own stuff he gave me this album. I burned copy of it, and I fell in love with the last track, although that wasn’t the one he had, wanted to hear. He was holding out for I miss new wave which is still a pretty good song, but it doesn’t touch that final track for me. I’m sitting in a laundromat with my keyboard and now I feel like that because no one’s here.❤

All of matts music is a complete representation of his inner self. The struggle between mania and depression, you can hear it in his fast paced up beat songs - with depressing generally unhappy lyrics, and than with his slower sounding sad songs - with encouraging uplifting lyrics. He seems to juggle the good and bad from his disease in all of his music, even before he knew he was bi-polar. Truly a work of art. and something i can resonate with on a closer level than any other artist.

This song takes me outside of time. It has the same effect on me that it did when I first heard it. Everything is temporary. Every moment is reflexive and redundant. Yet there's still hope that we'll have the effect on others that they have on us. That we'll find a way to exact change on some level.

For me personally this song had a profound effect on how I viewed music. To me lyrics were often just bad poetry that happened to work well because of the music that lifted it. This song was a demonstration of how profound poetry can be made exponentially more beautiful and haunting with the right sonic background. It motivated me to want to become a singer.

Suburbia Matthew Good You will come back within yourself You can be art when we melt And I will know what you were for I say we're leaving There ain't nothing here at all Another day, a week, the mall And baby if I was in demand You would be mine x2 Someday this place is gonna burn Is whole life in there waiting? Someday your head is gonna turn And you'll realize I'm missing Do you realize? You will come back, convince yourself You can stay alive and wait for me And I will know what this was for And I'll say we're leaving There ain't nothing here at all Another month, a year that's all So you can tell them I'm coming and Hell's coming with me x2 Someday this place is gonna burn Is whole life in there waiting? Someday their heads are gonna turn And they'll realize you're missing

If any song resembles how I feel about Victoria BC, this does right to a T, At times I wonder if anyone will know or care when I'm not there anymore? Anyone who has or who is currently living there can agree, this place makes me feel like a ghost almost. "Someday their heads are gonna turn when they realize that you're missing". This has always one of my favorite songs of his.
