Sugar not only feeds the yeast (causing the dough to rise), it also turns the outside brown. Salt controls the rising of the dough as well as flavor. I make my yeast breads from scratch, but I had a breadmaker some time ago. I found putting the liquid in first gave a better texture. Warm bread aroma sends lovin' throughout the house, too.

That is some beautiful bread Tessie! A trick I use to help it rise on a chilly day is to put it in the oven to rise with a pan of boiling water beneath. Blessings! :)

There’s something so comforting about homemade bread! It must smell amazing at your house! I’m so bummed out, I lost my sourdough starter in the back of the fridge, and forgot to feed it! Out of site out of mind! Ruined after 3 years! Now I’ll have to start over! 😢 I don’t even have any yeast packets these days. I suppose I can make biscuits for now. I’ll appreciate that.

oh I love bread...I was always prepared with flour ...yeast etc..ironically I had a ton of company before the lockdown and didnt have a chance to stock up ..boy do I miss my flour...but I learned my lesson...I needed to have found our Tessie before this...many blessings sweet lady

Hey tessie a tip for some ppl on here or u..check ur secondary stores or stores u dont normal think of for groceries..Gordon food service is a bulk store buttt no fee to shop there and they accept ebt or snap benefits. They sell small bottles of pb for example too not just big 10 cans. I got 25 lb flour for 7.99. Its more than it was 2 yrs ago but we will use it. Hope thid helps someone..

I've had flour, and yeast on my 'wish list' for a month now. I can't find them anywhere. I found a recipe for making homemade bread in the slow cooker I've wanted to try. Hopefully things will get better soon. I am enjoying growing potatoes, tomatoes, onions, carrots, and thyme for the first time in my life. I'm in the southwest so I got an early start. God bless

I make a homemade bread with steel cut oats, wheat germ, and rosemary that's a big hit; I like it because it has a lot of fiber. I learned to let it cool, hand slice it, and freeze it in a freezer ziplok bag. We take it directly from the freezer and toast it for breakfast in the morning. It makes great toast! Your Cuban bread recipe sounds great; I'm going to try it! I'm 1/5th Cuban and grew up eating authentic Cuban bread in Tampa (which is out of this world👍) and I looked into making it (apparently they put pans of water in the oven under the bread while it bakes; this creates steam which makes the exterior crusty) but I never got around to it. I saw another video on KZbin where the bread was baked at 450° in a dutch oven, which also creates steam, for a crusty exterior. Your recipe sounds great, and I might experiment with these different ways of baking it.

malt is used in beer making, I have always bought it in a can and it has the consistency of molasses. When making bread I will use the malt to give the bread a nice flavor. Love your dinner idea - it is so easy.
