I had to smile looking at Steve's 970R zero turn. I have a 930A that I purchase 6-7 years ago. Last year I added the tweels to the rear wheel. Got the Z-glide also. But I put tweels on front wheels and I have added some LED lights on the front. I'm thinking maybe I need to add an air ride to my seat. For me I did have some issues getting used to the zero turn but now I'm not going back. Does such a great job mowing and so much faster. Thanks for sharing.

@Chris_In_Texas3 жыл бұрын
As an armchair critique, but owning commercial zero turns, you really need to do 3 point turns even on a ZTR, if the back wheel doesn't move it grinds into the grass. With the tweels and the flat profile of them it can be worse and dig in more. Here in the southern US with the grasses we have its very evident each time you drag the wheel, so you learn quickly to do three point turns. Even a three point turn on a ztr can be quite fast once you get the motions down. Keep up the good work Tim. 👍

That looks like a really quick mower. I went with the John Deere stand on mowers because they are easier on my back. The tweels are great but they do tear up the yard more because they are harder and have more surface area on the ground. If it is wet I still need to make 3 Point turns

Those machines will mow faster than you can stay on them. I know. I have one. For over 25 years I mowed with a small compact tractor and rear finish mower. That combination was very reliable Replaced a couple of wheels and one belt. Time to mow my property was around 4 hours. Now it takes around 3 hours. My property is hilly and not easy to mow. The zero turn is faster but will require more maintenance and repairs than the tractor and rear finish mower did. Thanks Tim for another great video.

The pipe speeds water flow but with so much rip rap not a big deal. The first check dam’s base is the level for the next check dam’s throat’s upstream top. Look up the engineering specs. Great job.

Glad for the updates, especially the return to your sister's. I HATE it when the wind blows away my straw! Has happened to me several times. I got some nylon netting that helps but it's a lot of labor to pin it down. Also, the stuff I got has not degraded and I'm still finding it with my hoe, my mower . . . I wondered about the timing of your seeding that lawn, since fall is so much better. But I know the dilemma is what to do meantime and you might get lucky. Annual ryegrass might've been best. But then you'd want to ruffle the soil in mid September for seeding. As it is, it looks like some sort of scarifier will be helpful anyway.
@TractorTimewithTim3 жыл бұрын
Sister sent me a more recent photo than we were able to show in the video. It looks even better now! This particular spring has been great for starting grass. It’s a great mower for his conditions. They are not for everyone. Here he’s mowing flat wide open area with little or no trimming and no steep hills or banks. Plus it’s a pasture turned into mowing. He doesn’t care about scuffing nice grass that we have where we grow Kentucky Blue Grass.. Zero turns do not mean zero trim. To cut around obstacles you have to bump steer which means you brake one tire and while the other steers around the tree or scrub. In our Kentucky Blue that causes scuffing. It doesn’t bother Bermuda grass of the South. With banks and hills be careful on the degree of slope. For hills mowing across them if it gets steep enough the weight gets transferred to the downhill wheel and tire. It can flip up hill and because it’s steep the machine takes a quick ride backwards down the slope. It can be a scary ride !

I see Steve is making the mistake that most new ZTR owners make... that is... making a "zero turn" on a ZTR. Anytime you pivot on that inside tire it tears up the grass. Instead, make a short gentle 3-point turn. With a little practice it becomes second nature and still allows for very quick turns with no grass damage.

Hello everyone, could someone explain a little about this grass, I am from the south of Brazil, here the temperatures are usually around 74 F, but it can vary from 0 F to 100 F. But the permanent grass used here for both garden and livestock feed are planted by seedlings, and not by seed, I am very intrigued by this type of grass
@TractorTimewithTim3 жыл бұрын
Interesting! Never heard of planting grass via seedlings. I wonder if the grass is a different variety, or if it is just planted differently? I’m not sure how to provide any helpful info. We use a turf-type fescue. Some folks use bluegrass. Others use Kentucky 31 fescue. Others use a ryegrass. Then, in different regions different grasses are used based on climate.
