Who could want anything more than a lovely woman and a river full of fish out the back door? Mister you got yourself a gold mine right there. Thanks for the tips.

Awesome video! I think I have had sucker before years ago . My dad started taking me to some of the beautiful spring-fed ozark streams here in Missouri when I was about 5. Dad still talks about how I ate a giant plate of fried Large Mouth Bass and goggle eye (very tasty) I am 30 now and still fish these streams and ponds for bass but I just throw them back to get bigger. I have seen some giant suckers in them crystal clear streams.

When I was a little shaver, my favorite fish to eat was the white sucker. They were very hard to catch in the trout streams on the eastern slope of the Appalachians in Pennsylvania. Delicious.

I tried it with a redhorse a couple years ago, but I skinned it and scored both sides at opposite angles. Still had bones, i guess the best part of not getting it right is trying again! Delicious fish though, thanks for taking us along!!!

Never fried them before. Going to have to try it. Up here in northern Minnesota we mostly smoke and pickle them.

Looks great! Cook small carp the same way too. Cook down all the Y- bones. Probably could do it with pike as well. Never tried that. First time seeing your videos, Thank you!

Man, it’s been a long time since I’ve done this. Suckers out of cold water early in the spring are the best. I’ve never used a hook like yours before, I use a regular treble hook the same size as yours and put a large weight about two ft from the hook, then a second person chases the fish over the hook (or with a little patience they will eventually swim over the hook).

Thanks. Great video. Our northeast culture considers these types of fish as trash fish. Some idiots even toss them on the bank to die. Ive always had fun catching them, good to see that they are good to eat as well.

They are good! Just have to be mindful of bones.

Oh yeah! Down here in NW Florida we bait suckers up starting in October and they are a blast to catch and great table fair! Then from January to about mid April we have a gigging season. When suckers run up small creeks to spawn. But my friend....I hope you didn't throw those back bones away! No gashing\scoring to do.....just cut into about your size....fry em up and eat right off the bone and just leaves you a Flintstones hair comb...lol

Spearing them with bullfrog gigs is fun too….. we used to hike the river at night with lanterns and a backpack full of beer and spear them all night.

My cousin would presure cook them and can them. Then the bones would turn to soft mush. Like salmon in the can.

Suckers around here don't have scales like that....that looks more like a carp( to me) with those big scales....maybe it's different up here...I fish northern Lake Superior and it's tributaries, and alot of species of fish look different here then other parts of Canada\U.S because of the really cold water and the fatty\greasy smelts that are a big part of their diet.

Definitely a sucker. Had it been a carp...now that's a different story.
