I had a dream about my car accelerating uncontrollably and I've been thinking about it all day at work, how I should act if it ever actually happened. This video really put my mind at ease. Hold down the breaks and put it in neutral, simple and it's good to have a game plan that I know if garunteed to work instead of thinking about each thing that I could try in the moment of the emergency.

Yeah, 6 months ago my chevy equinox kept accelerating even in neutral after punching it to pass a slow driver. As I was approaching 100 MPH, and the end of a freeway, I had to use all 3 brakes just to skid to a stop before dying. Just today, I replaced the accelerator pedal module after it crapped out so I hope that was the cause of the unwanted acceleration, and recent loss of power/low RPMS. It drives again with no warning lights, but I haven't tried opening it uo on a freeway yet. I want to test it, but i don't want it to involuntarily accelerate again while on the freeway.

That’s an excellent question I’d like to know the answer to because this happened to me and my three kids and three nieces thirty years ago and today I’m having a similar problem and I still don’t know how I’d disengage the car if it were to do what happened then. Terrifying to say the least!!!

I have never driven automatic in my life but honestly if this would have happened to me i really wouldn't know what to do, since i've taken my driving classes only in manual and i would panick bcs this the first time after 10 years of continuous driving i am hearing of this kind of problem (i honestly didnt know it even existed this problem of sudden acceleration) ... i believe that there should be a law thay if you want to go from manual to automatic, you should take extra classes so they can prepare you for these kind of scenarios.

they shift into neutral in the cabin, but transmission doesn't get shifted. Its throttle by wire electronic problem with almost every car maker. Computer controlled cars, thats the problem.

Yeah, it happened to me. Shifting into neutral did not work. I was like "awe fuck..." so I had to use all 3 brakes and skid for about 100 yards on a busy freeway.

Unfortunately when these failures actually happen the vehicle gets stuck in limp mode even turning a key off might not work. I cant say much more because my reports have not gone public till after the investigation is over. But in the case I am working on the vehicle was stuck in 3rd gear limp mode.

2018 toyota rav 4, approximately 15,000 miles on the car. almost stopped (going about 1 to 2 mph) the car accelerates to high speed, the brake and gas peddle both flat on the floorboard, why? i shoot up into my neighbors yard, i maneuver between a car and a tree, i turn the steering wheel hard to the left to avoid a fence and a trash can as i roar back out onto our little street about 5 seconds later the car goes back to normal. my daughter, my grandson and i were lucky. toyota said it was driver error. 49 years of driving under my belt.

this just happened to me in an old peugeat 406, i pulled over and stopped it, then tried it again to see if it started normally and it revved super high and when i turned it off by the key it kept revving, i had to put it in first gear and stall it, scarey stuff

I just had this happen! I was driving at about 45 mph slowed down to pull into a convenience store. As I had my foot on the brake pedal the car started to pick up speed. I had my foot on the brake allowing it to move slowly into a parking space. When I stop the engine started revving loudly. I put it in neutral and then park, then turned the key off! I maybe shouldn't have put it in park, but I hadn't seen this video! I own a 2016 Toyota Camry SE, 50,330 miles, which hasn't given me many problems!

@holycow82334 жыл бұрын
Slap the gas pedal would be the very first step. Lol. The rest is good info but usually it’s a vacuum leak or a bad sensor and slapping the gas pedal real quick will stop it and you can do the other steps if that don’t work.

This video is out dated. It was made before we learned that Sudden Acceleration Syndrome involved On Board Computer mis-reading the accelerator peddle module. This was never about floor mats sliding into the peddle, as the auto industry claimed.

@TheRealKoolguy007 Clutches rarely fail in modern cars, I drive everyday in London but would expect the clutch to last at least 100,000 miles (previous cars did). I know people claim wonderous things from automatics but in reality they seem more troublesome, plus in our tiny engine Euro cars you tend to not want to waste power.

Mentality is not the only, or biggest, factor in what makes a good driver. While women may have a better mentality while driving, they may not necessarily have better reflexes or ability to judge depth/velocity.

Great PSA safety information. A Radiolab podcast report on Bit-Flipping explains how a neutrino particle variant (a subatomic particle) which daily breezes through the planet (and anything in its path) could produce strange errors when they collide with computer chips. (see Bit Flip at Radiolab) www.wnycstudios.org/story/bit-flip The Radiolab report states: There were reports from the '60s that explained how NASA had noticed these random bit flips in their satellites; how IBM and others made studies about random bit flipping and problem with computer memory. (Regarding SUA) From the driver point of view, what was happening was that the car would take off. Sometimes at low speeds, but sometimes at high speed. And the drivers would say, "My foot was on the brake pedal but my car kept going faster." [source: Phil Koopman, at Carnegie Mellon University, and co-founder of Edge Case Research.] PHIL KOOPMAN's specialty is in fault-tolerant computing. According to the Radiolab podcast report, "what broke that driver error narrative ... (was that) a 45-year-old male California highway patrol officer, Mark Saylor, whose specialty is vehicle inspector" couldn’t stop his car. In the Radiolab report: According to PHIL KOOPMAN: "If you had a bit flip, the task that controls the throttle position could die." After the OEM vehicle recalls, critical operational system electronics are now redundant (the same as airplanes and in aerospace)

That wasn't an option for me! My 2010 Toyota Prius Suddenly Accelerated Unintendedly on January 31, 2019. This is still happening! This was not the Floormat! I did not mistake the Gas Pedal for the Brake Pedal! I Never Have! The pedal was not Sticky! It Sucked itself Full Throttle right to the Floor when coming out of a right hand turn! Brakes held but Engine was Revving like crazy. Every time I released the brakes to try to get the gas pedal to come back, the Prius took off. Can you imagine starring down with your foot on the brakes, and the gas pedal is still pushed in Full Throttle? Explain that?? It did this for about 2 and a half blocks. Shifting to Neutral was NOT working. It wouldn't Turn Off. And I didn't want to press the "E" Brake risking the lines snapping and having NO BRAKES! That was my last resort. This was Crazy and Vehicle Manufacturers need to be held accountable! I've made a "Safety-Related Defect Complaint" to Transport Canada 🍁. You should all do the same in your country. Let's fight this and end Sudden Unintended Acceleration! Maybe going back to a Drive By Cable system instead of Electronic Throttle Control will be the answer. There's gotta be a solution!

The idea of a car owner or driver not knowing how to put a car in neutral is incredibly scary to me. It should be instinctive, you should be able to do it without even looking at the shifter. And it should be the most incredibly obvious thing to do if your car accelerates unexpectedly. Unless you're a girl, in which case just throw your hands in the air and scream! 🤣🖕🏼
