Even back then in this scene, you can clearly see Wesley's Karate background. The way he chambered that punch and snapped it with the corkscrew trajectory is a textbook Karate punch, all the way down to his straight back-posture and the slight lowering of his legs to channel power from the earth(ground).

I know these egocentric nutjobs love to claim they "do all of their own stunts" even though the credits have a rake of stunt credits and every action scene seems to remarkably have more cuts than a gypsy dentist.
