I had this. It was the question of "who would you prefer to have sex with?" And the answer was "they are both equally unappealing. I must be bisexual!" Of course, it turns out I'm biromantic. I'm primarily romantically attracted to men though and I feel like I'm a fake bi all the time because of it and being ace.

It honestly never OCCURRED to me that I was bi my whole life until very recently (and I’m 53 !!!) because I thought my attraction to women was how I was conditioned from a world in which women are depicted as sex objects (imagine being a toddler in 1971) so I assumed all women had this automatic sexual reaction to seeing a hot woman. Then one day I realized I had believed that for my whole life without ever ASKING anyone if they felt that way too. Derrrrp.

I, a cis-female, used to think I was straight because in my 20's & 30's I enjoyed sex with males. Later I realized I was attracted to women as well, but never pursued that type of relationship. Now in my late 60's, while I find all different genders attractive, I prefer to be celibate. In hindsight, I realize most of my choices were made for the sake of an uncomplicated life.

At 60, I’m pretty sure my cishet reality is just that: my reality. And since hitting menopause (YAY!) I too am happily celibate. My attraction to women is mostly about wanting to emulate them. Physically, I’ve sometimes wished I could give a beautiful butt a squeeze, but it’s more akin to seeing a baby with adorable chubby cheeks. Doesn’t feel sexual. Just for perspective: I (as a cis-het woman) never think about who I am "allowed" to find attractive or not; it's just that all the individuals I've ever been physically and/or romantically attracted to so far (I'm 30), happened to be men. It's really not like "hmm she's female, I'm not allowed to be attracted", it just never happened (so far, I assume that could change). Just as much "not a choice/decision" as only being attracted to same-sex individuals, I'd say ;)

@larakleefeld8855

As someone who is at least certain about not being attracted to one gender (the rest is a bit confusing), I can say that for me it’s like there is a group of people that I just am not attracted to, and they all share one gender. Maybe you have people in your life, like good friends or annoying people or gross people, that you just aren’t attracted to. Take the feelings you have (or don’t have) towards them, and apply that to people of one gender, and maybe that explains it.

I'm a cis-het woman and while I can definitely *see* attraction in other women (like wow she's really attractive), I've never *felt* attraction like I do with some men (like getting the tingles, wanting to touch their body, etc.) - or felt any sort of romantic connection to a woman, either. Its much more on a purely "visually pleasing" level for me, meaning I also never had the desire to explore that route more. At the same time, I do like my own female body in a sensual way, but I feel like that's more about how I feel in my body than about potentially being bi :)

For the attraction question, I’m aromantic asexual (as well as aplatonic to a degree) and I’ve never been sexually or romantically attracted to anyone in my life. The concept of attraction in general is entirely alien to me, I have no idea what it even feels like or how to describe it. Obviously I don’t speak for all aces but in my experience every “attraction” I’ve had has been from me trying to fit in with the allos around me. When the topic of crushes came about, I would have to consciously choose someone to be my “crush” because nobody believed me when I said I had none. It would be either a friend I already got along with or just whoever looked the most aesthetically pleasing to me. I feel like allos have a hard time comprehending that we just don’t experience something so central to their identities, just like I struggle to understand why anyone would make such a big deal out of dating, or finding the “right person” So yeah I’m not straight, but I’ve never been attracted to someone of my own gender, or any other gender lol

I think I've worked past the 3:35 thingy. My (strangely all-queer) friendship group was so oppressive of any kind of sexuality. It was like I wasn't allowed to like men, so I never really considered anything else. My bisexuality went unnoticed for a very long time until a girl put her hand on my knee and I realised 'oh, I'm also attracted to women.' The group were so gatekeepy that I didn't feel like I was allowed to like men (still bi with a strong preference for men), I didn't feel like I was allowed to have any kind of sexuality at all so I'd assumed being acespec was the norm, and I also never really gave my gender any thought (I'm genderfae, although I still feel entirely comfortable with feminine gendered terms, my gender is just also fluid). Now, I'm unapologetically bi and a strong advocate for 'even if you're bi with a preference for the opposite gender, you are still bi and still valid.' Bisexual women need to be allowed to love men too. I also saw something that said 'bisexual women are women that love men in a gay way' and it's like, honestly, yeah. I'm gay for men, gay for women, gay for non-binary people. Although I have also been informed that being under the genderfluid umbrella means all of my relationships are automatically gay, sooo...

Bi memes are always so validating. My bi awakening was boring, but I'm gonna share it anyway. Since I'm an artist I have studied the human form forever. Bodies are so beautiful. I follow instagram models and nude photographers, and one day I realized it's not just artistic appreciation. I wish I could point to a celeb and say "yes! My bi awakening!" No instead it was, "Damn my insta feed is full of thirst traps...oh." To answer your bi-curious question, my husband and I talked about this. He identifies as straight but thinks sexuality is a spectrum. Like he looks at men at the gym to inspire himself to work harder, and he appreciates a good figure no matter who it is. He looked inward growing up to find his preferences and decided he's straight because he doesn't feel a desire to be with men. Whereas I have literally always checked out men and women, but I never realized I was scoping the goods. I thought that's what everyone does! I can't believe not everyone enjoys female butts.

Im straight and the only attraction I've felt for someone similiar to my own gender is aesthetic attraction. Like wow you're beautiful! But I do not want to have sex with you. I can have deep emotional connections and be great friends, but it doesn't ever turn into anything romantic And i stress similiar gender to be inclusive of non-binary people. This isn't a convo i feel people have enough. Being heterosexual does not mean i am a woman who likes men, i like people different to my own gender. Like if anyone sees someone and thinks they're attractive, they have those thoughts regardless of knowing the other person's gender identity. I've been attracted to nbs without knowing they were nb at first. And nbs that are closer to female side of the gender spectrum/female presenting I don't find sexually/romantically attractive, and other times, even for 100% men, i just don't find them attractive because I am obviously human and that's not how attraction works. There can be a scenario where I say, "she's my partner" and be totally valid. I've been attracted to people who used multiple pronouns (I've never been attracted to anyone who exclusively uses she), and so yeah, in case anyone was curious about this subject 😭💜

This is exactly my position as well! I can appreciate a gorgeous woman, but I can not even imagine kissing or dating a woman. The second part is something I’ve never put into words, but I feel really similar. For me being straight means I can feel attraction towards anyone (that fits my “type”) so long as they don’t identify/present as female. Huh, never thought about it before. (I’ve also been in a monogamous relationship since before words like genderfluid/queer became part of my vocabulary, and I don’t suppose I spend much time thinking about what kind of people I would sleep with. Ive since youth known i wasnt straight (April from Ninja Turtles i fancied), and realized i sometimes like males as a teen. Im pansexual, but b4 I found the term, went w/bi. Back then I never did artsy things w/the bi colors, where as now as a pan person, I frequently use the colors. N I always have at least my pan flag ring on, finding it important 2b proud of my queerness n help normalize &educate people on lgbtqia+.

I'm on the ace spectrum (heteroromantic). I have only felt romantic attraction to people of the opposite gender I know well and only felt aesthetic or very slight sexual attraction to my current boyfriend. I'm significantly more likely to feel sensual attraction (desire for physical affection such as hugs) to people of the opposite gender that I know or connect with well, but my love language is physical touch so really I want to hug people anyway.

The first can can recall is Blythe from the littlest pet shop show but only in that one specific episode where she dressed all goth lol. Which is funny because I remember watching that specific episode over and over and over again and being like “why do I like this episode so much?” But I didn’t realize that till much later in life the first one I was like “oh that was hot” was Korra from legend of Korra when she did that hair flip at the end of season 2 😂

In the last one, when people say bi is half gay and half straight, I ask them if purple is a shade of blue or red and they instantly get it LOL like yes, there are elements of overlap, there are more blue purples and there are more reddish purples, but we all acknowledge that purple is its own colour in its own right. Also, I know you were asking straight people about attraction, but as a fellow bi person, I just can't wrap my head around how you could be attracted to someone (say they're androgynous) and then all that 'disappears' the moment they have the wrong thing in their pants. I can understand having a preference for masculine or feminine features, but the focus monosexuals put on gen1tals is sooooo weird to me, and I'm happy to bi because we really do get the best of both worlds.

Trans woman here who transitioned later. (relevant to story, I promise) My Bi Awakening was Shemar Moore. for a while I thought I was gay, which was super confusing for me since I grew up in a homophobic environment. finally accepted my bisexuality when I came out as Trans. which was way easier than accepting I was trans. but all is good now.

oh, addendum to that. I had the whole are you straight or are you bi thing sorta. although it was more like are you gay, or are you a lesbian? someone presumed that since I was transitioning I wanted to be with gay guys. like yes... that's how that works. derp. and then they asserted well if that wasn't it then I must be a lesbian. to them they couldn't conceive of gender identity being separate from sexuality.

I disagree that bi and pan are fundamentally different because bi is both a specific label and an umbrella that covers many labels. As an umbrella term, it's attraction outside of the binary. As a specific label, it's attraction to 2+ genders, typically including your own/one that makes you pass as straight. This goes along with the other common labels under that umbrella of pan (attraction regardless of gender,) poly (attraction to multiple genders not necessarily including your own,) and omni (attraction to all genders because of what makes them those different genders.) My preferred sleeping position: 3/4 position, somewhere between side and front laying, with the top leg bent up to my chest and the lower leg relatively straight.
@superzooperhaze6597
@superzooperhaze6597 Жыл бұрын
i agree with you. i don't mind the use of other labels (i sometimes use both pan and omni as well) but bi is interchangeable with all of them (and is my preferred along with just "queer") so to claim that bisexuality is inherently different is just false if you've read the bisexual manifesto.
@WishGender

I agree. I feel like as long as you’re under the bi umbrella it’s perfectly fine to say you’re bi. Like I’m omni but I call myself bi a lot because I don’t want people to be confused. It felt kinda icky hearing her tell someone that them using the bi label is wrong..

Ally here, but I am very, very straight. Never felt an ounce of attraction for anyone of the same gender. It didn't even occur to me that it was a possibility until I was like 12. I spent a good 1-2 weeks just seriously scrutinizing all of my present and former feelings because the idea seriously rocked my world 😂 I still think about it every occasionally over the past 20 years to see if my attractions have changed. But nope. 100% straight every time 🤷Half convinced my spouse is lying because I can 0% understand being attracted to female bodies, lmao.
@unapologeticallylizzy
@unapologeticallylizzy Жыл бұрын
I've always been able to understand being attracted to female bodies because I feel like women are just objectively prettier, have nicer faces and voices and are just overall more attractive as people (not necessarily in a romantic way) but I honestly used to be like you. I looked at women and it was like 'nope, no desire for a romantic relationship' and then one day a Spanish girl put her hand on my knee and I couldn't stop thinking about it for days on end so then it was just like 'well shit, I guess I like women as well.' (I do still have a preference for men though. I feel *the thing* more commonly with men. Look at them, though. They're just beautiful and hot and perfect... that is, when they're being allies and generally cool people. I have a particular soft spot for strong bisexual men who are tall, dark and handsome and have long hair.)

@@unapologeticallylizzy lol! I get finding them pretty the same way I find flowers or sunsets or paintings pretty :) But 0 sexual attraction of any kind. (And I lose my pretty scale entirely once we're talking about unclothed. 🤷Then, for me, it's just the same level of interest as looking at picked blades of grass.) Like I _know_ people have attraction I just personally lose _understanding._ But very grateful the world is increasingly more accepting of diversity! :D Humans have so much range and opportunity for attraction to be ever-evolving, even within individuals.

@Me, My Shelf, and I Yeah, it's nice! Although honestly, I'm talking completely about romantic attraction. My experience of sexual attraction is slim to none. The thought or sight of a naked man honestly terrifies me. Gotta love childhood sexual trauma. I want to work through it though, and I think that I can once I find someone I trust. I think I did feel sexual attraction once with one guy but yeah. Unclothed, women are tolerable, men, unless I'm fully in love and have a very deep, intimate trust, I'm running. Even with that trust, I can't look.

I'm in my thirties and just came out to myself in the last year or so, even though I've known since college that I sometimes find men attractive. I just didn't think it meant anything. When my psych 101 professor taught us about the Kinsey scale I said, "Oh, okay, I guess I'm a 1...maybe a 2 sometimes, " and I *still didn't think it meant anything.* It's only years of exposure to the rainbow mafia and the Rona-induced sit-down that made me realize, "Waaaaaaiiiiiit a second..."

I never really had a "Bisexual awakening." I've just always known that I was Bi, as far back as I can remember. I remember always saying to people, "If you touch the right thing the right way, it will respond no matter who you're with, so in the end, gender doesn't really matter." And I truly believed those words, for YEARS. The thought that people aren't at least a little bit attracted to all genders (with their own types to take into consideration, obviously), is something that I only started to realize more recently.
