I just made old fashioned steen’s popcorn balls last night. My son went to the fair today and couldn’t find candy apples. So I’m here now to surprise him with candy apples. I use to use the pre made stuff when he was a few years old. I haven’t made them in 10 years. I wanna try homemade ones now.

Hello Liz, I watched your Caramel Apple video & this Candy Apple recipe, I washed and refrigerated my apples yesterday and today I'm making your Caramel Apples recipe! I'm so excited!😃Next I'm going to make theses Candy Apples. I wanted to commend you on your videos for being one of the ONLY KZbin Chefs that actually addresses SAFETY prior to starting this project. Kitchen injuries are the most common household injuries and especially important when work with molten sugar. As an ex-military Safety Officer, I'd like to thank you for that! I wish more KZbinr Chefs would take a moment, like you did, and just alert the audience to potential safety risks. Most KZbinrs just jump right in to the recipe, without so much as a mention that sever burns can occur. Thank You Liz!

Hi Liz, thank you so much for this demonstration on how to make these delicious apples. Here in Australia, they are called 'toffee apples' and I used to buy them for my kids (and me) whenever there was a school fete or if I saw them for sale in the supermarket. I haven't seen them around for years. I am so grateful for you showing us how it is done. I will now be trying out your method for my grandchildren. Hugs from Melbourne.

we call them toffee apples too. And they're never flavoured really, even if they're very occasionally red.

My MIL had a complete failure making candy apples using a kit. She made them ahead of time for a kids event and was absolutely heartbroken to find the candy coating had melted off even being wrapped up in a treat bag. I found your video in my search for an answer and you provided all the information of what might have happed and why. I love how informative your tutorial was and am now subscribed!

Hi Liz, I grew up in Brooklyn calling them Jelly Apples, not Candy Apples. The only info I could find was that a Jelly Apple is specific to Coney Island and is cherry flavor not cinnamon, and the candy coating is softer on a Jelly Apple. Would you know how to make a Coney Island style Jelly Apple and what would make the candy coating softer than a Candy Apple? Thank you for the great video!! :)

Hi! Thank you so much for your videos. Especially this one. I’ve tried many candy apple recipes and this one is the best I’ve found. My apples didn’t end up with bubbles and it didn’t harden too fast like other recipes. I was able to fill some candy molds and dip some extra fruits. I do have a question. Is there a more natural way of making the candy apples? I’m saying, without corn syrup, or dyes. And if so how long do they last? Is there a video on it?

The only candy apples I've had here in the UK have either been caramel covered, or they've been red sugar, like this, but with no real appreciable flavour. But then cinnamon isn't the same kind of popular "candy" flavour here as it is in the US. Aside from one or two things, I don't even remember seeing much cinnamon stuff over the years... just Big Red gum and some sort of "firecracker" gumballs. That's about it, though. When I realised you could get cinnamon toothpaste and mouth freshening strips, it blew my mind!

when i make hard Candy and lollipops, instead of wasting all the sugar remaining in the pot when it's too set, i add loads of boiling water and tea bags to melt all that sugar and make sweet tea and then chill it to make sweet ice tea. and instead of glucose you can add more sugar (0.75 of the amount of glucose since it's sweetness is 0.75 of sugar) and more water (the remaining 0.25 of the amount of glucose) and a flavourless acid (although citric acid will add a lemon flavour which is nice) to the sugar and the cooking process will invert the sugar.
