Professor Mike, I'm confused as to what it means to "not pass" a suggestibility test. You said it's not really a test, it's only intended to create heteroaction, so how can it be possible to fail? I'm thinking the answer might be that some people simply don't follow the instructions correctly, or maybe even resist them on purpose, and so it becomes counterproductive to keep them on stage (as, in order to get them into trance, it would be best to deal with each of them individually, for which there is no time during a stage show), and thus we may say they "failed". Is that it?

Is it possible for a person to not be suggestible to hypnosis? I have tried many hypnosis videos, tests, subliminal meditations, etc... etc... and nothing seems to work... in the two you presented here, I could pull my hands apart and fingers stayed seperate. Even the look at the ceiling and close your eyes test, I can immediately shut my eyes without any flutter. Does this mean I am unable to be hypnotized. I am really a firm believer in the benefits of subliminal therapy and have tried for years with no success. Any advice or suggestions?

I'm sure that you've seen/done this, but what I like to do is take a business card and take a pen and put a small dot on the front and then write a random 2 or 3 digit number on the back and then a 3-4 digit number of importance to them like the first 3 or last 4 digits of their phone number. I have them hold the card facing them using just the tips of their thumb and index finger. Their wrist must be bent to have the card face them. I have them straighten out their arm and lock their elbows and raise their arm to about 30 degrees. I have them keep their head looking straight forward. This causes them to roll their eyes up to see the card. I then instruct them to focus on that dot and continually say to themselves in their minds, "I'm going to drop this card.... I'm going to drop this card..." while I'm speaking to them. I then tell them that their fingers are getting stiffer and tighter and that stiffness is going down their arms through the hands, wrists, elbow and shoulder and then say that they can then try to drop the card but they'll find that they can't (similar to Elman's eye lock) and then tell them that their arm is getting even more stiff and they won't be able to bend their arm and they then try and fail. I remind them to continue saying to themselves in their minds, "I'm going to drop this card.... I'm going to drop this card..." I have them concentrate on the dot on the card and tell them to imagine that all of the ink on the card is gone and all that is left is the white background and to nod their head when that happens. I then tell them to imagine that all of the white is gone and the card is completely clear and transparent and to nod when this occurs. When they nod, I remind them that the ink I used to write that random number that they saw is gone... just disappeared... and that number has likewise disappeared from their minds..it is gone gone gone and I ask them what it was and they can't remember. I then remind them of the other number that is also gone and ask them for the first 3 or last 4 digits of their phone number but they won't be able to remember them since they too are gone....far far away. This is actually an induction disguised as a test and goes through the first 4 Aron's levels - 1. small muscle (fingers), 2. large muscles (arm), 3 small memory (the random number) and then the big memory (an important number/name). If they get through most/all of it, they are already hypnotized and have experienced some solid convincers. Comments? Suggestions?

How do you INCREASE suggestibility?

My theory is the more talented in spirituality the more susceptible you. This suggests the more you meditate the more you are susceptible. Just a theory that needs to be tested.
@MikeMandelHypnosis2 ай бұрын
Interesting , What led you to think spirituality might increase susceptibility? Got any examples?
@jerg61952 ай бұрын
@MikeMandelHypnosis like I said no basis of merit. I just figure the more susceptible...the more easily you can entered altered states of conciousness. Makes sense as a guess.

Could it be that some audience members are such pleasers or so hungry for attention they'll gladly cooperate, even to the point of humiliation, to be part of the show?
@MikeMandelHypnosis Жыл бұрын
Yes - I think you mean volunteers not audience members - but it’s very easy for any experienced stage hypnotist to notice who is play acting vs genuinely responding. In the end EVERY volunteer wants to be part of the show. They volunteered.

Magnetic fingers is nonsense as a reliable suggestibility test as your index fingers will naturally come together.
@MikeMandelHypnosis22 күн бұрын
Could you elaborate on why you think the natural movement of the fingers makes it unreliable as a suggestibility test?
