I relate to all of these. I wish there was a Wavy Girl's Handbook, to help us wavies! My biggest mistake was thinking my hair might be "secretly curly" underneath the damage and frizz, and wasting a lot of time and money on the wrong products. Wishing it was 3A when it's 2B is also a mistake. Wavy is some days straight, some days curly and some days just wavy. It's different every day and I just roll with it now.

I can totally relate with you! I spent so much money and time trying to make my wavy hair curly. 🤦🏻♀️. I’m finally accepting it as it is. If I wash and condition with no products and air dry it will be mostly straight and fluffy. It is pretty long. So, I think that’s why. To get the best definition I have to use products and diffuse.

My biggest mistake I made on my very fine 2C to 3A hair was how much I was manipulating my hair right after washing. I learned very quickly that I need to minimize how much I touch my hair when wet as that just pulls out my fine curls. At first I was so jealous of girls that could brush through their wet hair and just have their curls immediately spring up. Mine needs to be scrunched soaking wet and then left to its own devices or diffused.

My biggest wavy hair (or just hair?) mistake: thinking my hair is high porosity just because it felt dry and brittle and because of that - stubbornly using products for high porosity hair because "these products are supposed to be good god dammit" instead of listening to my hair and and take note on how it reacts to different products. I recently realized that my hair is actually low porosity and needs totally different care than I used to give it. Porosity matters so much!

I followed lots of 3AB CGM youtubers and bloggers, I thought if I did the exact same routine with them, my hair'd be 3AB too. Because they're all sharing their hair and "This is my damaged hair in 2015 and my healthy hair in 2020!" In the pics when their hair looks damaged, it looks like 2AB and when it's healthy, it's like 3AB. I think that makes us think that our hair is unhealthy if it's not curling. In order to reach healthy hair we need to have curly hair too. I'm sure that bloggers have no bad intentions though, it just makes me feel that way.

Great video! My latest wavy/curly game changer: Over the last couple of years I've tried sleeping with a silky bonnet to protect my hair and stop it getting ruffled. However, I started to feel that the fabric wasn't breathable and this was making my head prematurely greasy/sweaty, leading to needing more frequent washes and therefore causing more damage. Not a happy scalp! Last week I made a bonnet out of mesh fabric instead(from a laundry delicates bag!) The holes are tiny enough to not let the hair get ruffled, but it still keeps things aired. Also, being a synthetic fabric, it doesn't suck the moisture out of my hair too harshly. The waves themselves are currently about the same shape etc as before, and it's early days, but it already feels healthier in general. This is just my personal experience but if it helps 1 person, then fantastic :D If anyone has further thoughts on this, please share!
@billiev87054 жыл бұрын
Janey Ellis Real silk satin won't make your head feel warm - it is super breathable! Satin bonnets are often made of polyester, which does not breathe as it's basically plastic. For vegans, you could try tencel satin or viscose/rayon satin. For reference: satin is the WEAVE; silk, polyester, rayon and tencel are the FIBRES that the fabric is made of. You want to look for natural fibres in ansmooth satin weave. Bonnets are pretty easy to DIY if you own a sewing machine.

I felt so identified with this video! One of the mistakes I made was thinking that following CGM tutorials of people with 3a / 3c hair probably would make my "it seems wavy underneath the frizz" hair curly. My hair is straight in the roots but at the middle it starts being 2b even 2c in some ends and so freaking frizzy to the point that I hate it. But I´m going to keep in mind that frizz is not the "big problem here" and wavy hair is as beautiful as a curly one!

A mistake I've made is plopping my hair in t-shirt. Pretty much most curly/wavy girls do it and I thought it would help me too. So for months I was plopping my hair and it helped with frizz, but it seemed like I lost definitely after doing it and my hair would be flat at the root. So, eventually I stopped plopping and just started letting my hair air dry for a few minutes before I hit it with the diffuser. SUDDENLY 👁️👄👁️ I actually had full waves!! It was a miracle!! Then recently I was having terrible with my hair clumping (still not sure why but I switched products and it's helping) and I asked someone for tips. She told me to start plopping again. I thought it was a bad idea based on my experiences, but she insisted and I thought maybe it'd be helpful now that my hair is in a better state. I was wrong. I plopped and lost some really great definition. So, friends, the lesson is: listen to your hair. If you know your hair doesn't like something, don't do it. If you know it likes something, do it. Don't listen to other people's generic advice when you already know. 🤡
@ktfearless4 жыл бұрын
Plopping doesn’t work for me either!! I think it helps to contain the water, but overall, it causes me more frizz and breaks up my curl “wave” clumps. I’m still new to embracing the wavy hair journey but I can tell plopping isn’t for me. Also, diffusing hasn’t worked for me so far either. It could be that I need a better quality diffuser, but it seems to create a lot more frizz for me.
@SaveMe03774 жыл бұрын
@@ktfearless Same!! diffusing makes my hair frizz, but only if I dry my hair too much. I've noticed if I diffuse until it's about 70% dry (which is still more wet than I'd like tbh) it doesn't seem to add any frizz and my waves/curls stay fully in tact. So then I just air dry the rest of the way and my gel creates a better cast.

I relate this video so much because most of them are mistakes that I made in my 3 months curly girl method journey. I fixed some of them with experimenting but with this video, I realized my two current mistakes: 1. I used too much moisturizing product on my hair. I'm using hair mask every wash day (I wash my hair 2 times a week) and it's weighing down my hair. My hair feels too soft, loses it's shape easily now. I'll cut the hair mask and focus on my conditioner for a while. 2. I'm refreshing my hair everday, I'll try to refresh my hair only once between my wash days for a while.

Hi suhanna 😊 I know on your channel you’ve done a lot of videos that compare wavy hair to curly hair that have been really informative, do you think you could do a video that talks about the differences between wavy hair and straight hair? As in, how to tell the difference between straight hair and wavy hair that’s been poorly taken care of/is in transition? I’m in the beginning stages of embracing my (I think) wavy hair and I know a lot of people will relate when I say I have constant hair identity crises. I always wonder if I just have straight hair that I’m forcing to be wavy and if I should just stop wasting my time trying to treat it like wavy hair. I know a lot of wavy hair often looks mostly straight, especially when it hasn’t been taken care of, so how do you know when it’s actually wavy or not?
@SuhannaDeSilva4 жыл бұрын
Your best way to see if your hair is straight or not is to wash it with a clarifying shampoo and a hydrating conditioner and then just let it air dry without scrunching or adding any styling products. If it air dries straight, then you have straight hair, if it air dries frizzy and you notice pieces around your face and at the nape of your neck forming a wave or curl, it’s probably wavy.

@@saggguy7 I know this was months ago but thought I should let you know that you cant force straight hair to be wavy/curly by using a wavy/curly hair routine. If it has any type of wave then its wavy since straight hair cant hold waves or curls.

Just a question about sulfate free shampoo. Every video I have ever watched on the CGM said to use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. Does anyone have oily hair? With regular shampoo my hair needs washing every 2-3 days. Sulfate free is just a disaster, I can not wash my hair every day.

Its also about training your hair not to produce so much oil, this could be done by letting your hair get greasy and distribute the oil with a bristle brush/ wooden.. may take a while but it's worth it bc washing (my) hair stresses it a lot and it's a great way to retain length

@@shaneanfriends Yes I have read about that too and I have managed to get one extra day that way. My hair used to need washing every 1-2 days. Now I can get away with 2-3 days and trying to get to 4. But when I started using sulfate free shampoos to follow the CGM I noticed my hair getting oily way sooner.

I love how you say wavy instead of curly... It's ignorant when wavy women say their hair is curly!! 3a is just starting to be curly.... Not 2b!! It's a small word but is hurtful to women with curly hair

U can see she she has got some curls plus curls doesn't mean tight curls theres different types of curls

But she’s dominantly wavy and so she’s wavy and she respects that and doesn’t try to come off like she’s a type 3! Respect to her!!

I personally think that wavy hair is much prettier than curly hair. Yes, even closed cuticle hair needs protein!

I think all hair types are equally beautiful! There's tough enough standards in this curly community in my opinion, let's just embrace what we have 😊

There is no need to compare and bring one hair type down to uplift another, that is not the way to uplift. Everyone is beautiful let’s leave it at that. ❤️

@@kandyykayy Puleeze! I'm not bringing anyone down! Wavy hair is my personal preference. Not saying anything negative about tighter curls. I am free to have my preferences!!!

Anna Burns saying one hair type is MuCh pRetTiEr is bringing it down. U can have ur preference but u don’t need to word it in a way that makes one hair type feel inferior! Choose kindness hun
